Jesus Christ is the Anchor of Our Hope!

Elder News

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Elder news for April is slim being that our

March Madness is not basketball but setting

up of Our Hope's Holy Week and contacting

lost church members. We hope to strive on

sending out letters to our lost members yet

still building on new church membership

which means a little new and younger blood.

Like always, talk to your friends and

neighbors to come and experience Our Hope

Lutheran Church where you'll leave as our

friend.

Stewardship 1440 Minutes As mentioned in our last Anchor article, each of us has a responsibility to invest our talents and to commit a portion of our time in service to our ministry.

1 Peter 4:10 — “Each of you should use what-ever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

Giving of time involves being with God in

prayer and worship, sharing our love with family and friends and volunteering our time in church and com-munity activities that help others.

Sharing our talents arises from the fact that God has given each of us the ability and gifts to do certain things well and we are to develop those tal-ents for the good of others.

Our Stewardship committee is completing a final review of our Talent & Interest survey. It is our interest that this effort will help you discover or clarify your gift or gifts. Will we be using this tool to call members in search of volunteers? No. It will, how-ever, be used to assist members in answering God’s call to service.

What if you don’t have the time to volunteer

to help in church? For a lot of us these days, this is certainly a valid excuse. For the large majority of us it’s not a question of having the time but of using the time we have. A recent study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the average American over 18 spends his or her time during the 1,440 minutes avail-able each day as follows:

Sleeping - 7 hours – 39 min Working/Commuting - 9 hours – 12 min Leisure, TV, sports - 2 hours – 51 min Eating/Drinking - 1 hour – 7 min Cooking/Cleaning – 52 min Reading Newspaper – 6 min Grooming - 48 min Shopping – 34 min Education – 6 min Phone/Email – 5 min Caring for children / elderly - 33 min Volunteering / Religious Activities - 7 min

Again, this is an average which may or may not repre-sent your specific daily schedule. By way of sugges-tion, why not keep a record for a week to see where all your time goes? This may identify an hour or two that you can add in service to our Lord. There’s always plenty to do. For example: Our Nursery revamp is well under way. Please consider volunteering 1 Sun-day per year in the Nursery watching over the little ones. This will allow us to offer our younger parents uninterrupted participation in our services. In His Service, Jeff Alexander Stewardship

Youth & Family Ministry News

March was quite busy for the preschool. We had so much to do with Dr. Seuss week, the Scholastic book fair, Grandparent’s Day, Open House/Science Night, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. The children really love to hear the story of Jesus’ journey to the cross. And our afternoon classes enjoyed coloring the eggs for the Easter breakfast. We begin April with Spring Break. Classes will be back in session on April 11. We will be learning about new life, weather, and all the wonder that Spring and the changing of the seasons bring. Hopefully, we won’t have too many Spring showers (or snow) that prevents us from having some fun outside. Thank you to everyone who will be stripping and waxing the FAC floors over spring break. You are much appreciated! Also, thank you to everyone who purchased books at the Scholastic book fair. It was one of our best sales. We earn dollars to purchase furniture, books and teacher resources from this sale. Looking ahead to June… We will be hosting our Barnyard Roundup VBS the week of June 13 from 9am to noon. We are in need of adult and high school/college age volunteers. Our participation numbers have been grow-ing and we are in need of helpers. It will be sad to have to discontinue such an awesome mission and outreach to our community because we don’t have enough help. You can be a group leader that escorts children to each of their destinations, or lead Snack, Games, Music or Crafts. You will receive guid-ance, support and scripts for each of these jobs. Please prayerfully consider being a role model to our young friends. You can contact Lisa South, Pastor or myself with any questions or your interest. If you know of anyone looking for childcare for the Summer months, please encourage them to check us out! There are links for registration forms and fee information at our church website ourhopelutheran.com. Happy Spring! Gina Pippenger

A BIG THANK YOU — to all the youth who showed up and helped with the Easter Breakfast this year. Your help was greatly appreciated!! NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING NEWS We have officially been accepted to go to the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans, July 16-20. We have registered 2 adults and 2 youth to go this year. We are sure it will be a fantastic experience for them. Now we need to make plane reservations and get our hotel assignments. If any-one happens to have any frequent flyer miles that they won’t be using and would be willing to let us use, please contact Rod Bourassa @ 443-9777.

LUTHERAN ASSOCIATION FOR INSTITUTIONAL MINISTRIES

A Fort Wayne Lutheran Ministry since 1923

The Ministry Providing weekly worship services for hundreds of

residents in 32 Fort Wayne area nursing facilities. Providing large print “Portals of Prayer” to the

residents. The Value of This Ministry For more people, entering a nursing facility is one the most difficult decisions they will ever make. Pastors can visit and pray with them and bring them commun-ion, but, it would be impossible for most pastors to have an actual worship service for each of their mem-bers in various nursing facilities. That’s where L.A.I.M. comes in. L.A.I.M. oversees Lutheran worship services in most of the nursing fa-cilities in Fort Wayne. This gives the residents the opportunity once again for public worship with others. They get the opportunity to hear and participate in the precious parts of our familiar services—Invocation, prayers, hymns, Scripture Reading, sermon, Creed, Lord’s Prayer and Benediction. And, not only that, but family members have the opportunity to regularly or occasionally come to these services and worship with their loved ones. You Can Assist this Important Ministry Pray regularly for our L.A.I.M. chaplains and for those who participate in these services. Consider supporting L.A.I.M. with a financial gift to
