Dear <<Name>>,
We are at a critical juncture in our country today.
Thousands of our brave service members have returned home aftera long war in Iraq while many more continue to serve our country inAfghanistan and around the world.
Many of our veterans are returning home with serious injuries —both physical and mental. Even more are in need of special servicesand support within their communities.
We must make sure not a single veteran falls through the cracks.
In thanks for not forgetting America’s active-duty military andveterans, I’ve enclosed a very special gift. Please accept theenclosed American Legion all-occasion cards with pride. You deserverecognition as a patriot who really toes the line for America’smilitary!
It’s reliable, loyal friends like you who make this nationgreat. YOU understand the new battles...the challenges...our newveterans will face. You understand that, no matter what, we must doall we can to support these courageous men and women who are cominghome and need help transitioning back into civilian life.
Once again, <<NAME>>, we must make sure our heroes receive thehelp they need as they return home.
From one patriot to another, I’m asking you to step forward andlend your support to our wounded...our military families...ourAmerican heroes. If you can manage another gift of <<$XX>>, <<$XX>>or even <<$XX>>, I’ll see to it that it’s used to honor and protectveterans and their families in their time of need. Your generouscontribution will help The American Legion:
• Pay for utilities, groceries, childcare, and more for militaryfamilies whose lives are in chaos after long, recurringdeployments through our Temporary Financial Assistance program (TFA).
Please make check payable to: The American Legion
I’d like to pay by credit card (see reverse).

• Provide direct assistance to veterans returning home from warthrough our Heroes to Hometowns program. This community-basedprogram connects veterans with the services they need withintheir own communities. We also help them understand and accessVA benefits they earned, while helping to appeal disabilityclaims.
• Protect the children of military families with The AmericanLegion Legacy Scholarship Fund. Providing for the education ofchildren whose mother or father made the ultimate sacrifice inwar is our moral duty.
These are just a few of the programs made possible by good people like you. And every gift you make to The American Legion istax-deductible.
You can count on this: We are duty-bound to America’s veteransand active-duty military! We will not stand by and watch a herostumble and fall!
It’s not right...it’s just not our way. I know you feel the same. When The American Legion was founded, our constitution pledged“devotion to mutual helpfulness.” These aren’t just words. This is asolemn promise to our comrades and our community.
It’s a promise I know you hold in your heart...in the Americanvalues that guide your life.
I’m asking you to join us — and thousands of other concernedpatriots across the country — in our pledge to help our troops andveterans. Especially those who suffer horrible wounds and serioustrauma as a result of their service...and those families with lovedones who fell in the line of duty.
Please fill out the attached donation card and return it in theenvelope I have provided. I truly feel blessed because I know youare standing with our veterans and are willing to help!
Thank you and may God bless you and your family.
Sincerely,
William A. PeaseNational Development DirectorThe American Legion
P.S. The all-occasion cards are my gift to you because you’re such a loyal friend to America’s troops and veterans. You’re notobligated, but if you could please manage a gift right now it would certainly mean a lot.
