Gutzon Borglum

Gutzon Borglum and his crew, which included his son Lincoln, made Mt.Rushmore . It took them 14 years to make Mt.rushmore In 1941 the year that the crew was finishing the mountain, Gutzon died forcing Lincoln to take over the project.

Lincoln Borglum

Lincoln Borglum was very successful in this project. He is also is a very important man to South Dakota (SD) and our whole country (USA). I am very happy happy happy that Lincoln was born, without him Mt.rushmore would not of been finished by the Borglum generation. Lincoln finished Mt.rushmore and dedicated it to Gutzon Borglum.

Ch. 2: How Mt. Rushmore was Made !

The figure of Thomas Jefferson was first started on George Washington's right side. After 18 (eighteen) months of carving the figure of jefferson it had to be blown up with T.N.T. explosives and was restarted on washington’s left side. Some of the problems that they faced were rock cracking and tools breaking. They had to make a choice to start over on the other side, or to finish and leave it like that. They chose to go to the other side of george washington and start over.

Mt. Rushmore was carved into a location called the black hills in South Dakota. During the process of making Mt. Rushmore they had to use a lot of tools and one very important tool that they used, were harnesses to be SAFE. Over 400 men and women strived their hardest to build mt.rushmore. All their hard work paid off when the monument was complete. If it wasn't for them we would not have mt. Rushmore today.

here are some tools that they use
