From the Pastor’s Desk… The use of female images should not surprise us. We see it in the different symbols of this nation, such as the Statue of Liberty. We see it in the expressions the mother country or mother earth. In the writings of this Sunday we see how they have an expression based on feminine icons. In the first reading we see wisdom personified in a woman. She is shown, for those who seek her, as radiant, incorruptible, faithful and vigilant. The evangelist Saint Matthew uses the parable of the ten virgins awaiting the groom. Being a bridesmaid at a wedding, at the time of Jesus, was considered an honor, whose main responsibility was to help the bride with her attire and to wait for the groom for the reception. They had to be responsible and vigilant, keeping their lamps lit for the wedding party. They had to be prepared. Being ready for the Lord's arrival is the main idea of the gospel. The challenge presented by the writing is that "God does not improvise". To receive God and keep him in our lives we cannot fall into apathy or mere chance. God is not an accident or a resource that is sought in a time of need. We cannot take God for granted and plunge us to always excuse us for our shortcomings, negligence and indifference when we believe that we do not need it. God always has to be present and we always have to be ready to receive it. We have to cultivate a personal relationship with our God. No one can do it for you. Others may pray for you but no one can have a relationship with Christ as your Savior if you are not yourself. And this manifests itself in the concrete: in attending your Mass, loving Sunday duty, in your testimony at home, at work, at school ... Everyone must make their own way and want to be saved. Living without any feeling, conscience or idea of the kind of journey we are living, the kind of life we are leading is being negligent towards our spiritual life. If we want to see the face of God we have to start from now and not let death surprise us. As we see, light, waiting, being prepared and wisdom are real and necessary elements for our salvation. Let's not take risks or lose opportunities in our walk towards God. Let's wait for our savior, our redeemer, the groom ready. Let us wait with our lamps filled with the oil of the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the light of our works. Let's open the doors of our hearts to the king and close them to the prince of darkness. With holy joy, let us celebrate the wedding of the Lamb!

Del Escritorio del Párroco… El uso de imágenes femeninas no debería sorprendernos. Lo vemos en los diferentes símbolos de esta nación como lo es la estatua de la libertad. Lo vemos en las expresiones la madre patria o la madre tierra. En las escrituras de este domingo vemos como tienen una expresión basada en iconos femeninos. En la primera lectura vemos a la sabiduría personificada en una mujer. Ella se muestra, para los que la buscan, como radiante, incorruptible, fiel y vigilante.

El evangelista San Mateo utiliza la parábola de las diez vírgenes en espera del novio. El ser una dama de compañía en una boda, en el tiempo de Jesús, era considerado un honor, cuya responsabilidad principal era el ayudar a la novia con su atuendo y el esperar al novio para la recepción. Tenían que ser responsables y vigilantes, manteniendo sus lámparas encendidas para la fiesta de bodas. Tenían que estar preparadas. El estar listo para la llegada del Señor es la idea principal del evangelio. El reto que nos presenta la escritura es que “Dios no se improvisa”. Para recibir a Dios y mantenerlo en nuestras vidas no podemos caer en la apatía o en la mera casualidad. Dios no es un accidente o un recurso que se busca en un momento de necesidad. No podemos dar por sentado a Dios y asumir que siempre nos excusará por nuestras carencias, negligencia e indiferencias cuando creemos que no lo necesitamos. Dios siempre tiene que estar presente y nosotros siempre tenemos que estar listos para recibirlo. Tenemos que cultivar una relación personal con nuestro Dios. Nadie lo puede hacer por ti. Otros podrán rezar por ti pero nadie puede tener una relación con Cristo como tu Salvador si no eres tú mismo. Y esto se manifiesta en lo concreto: en asistir a tu misa, amoroso deber dominical, en tu testimonio en la casa, en el trabajo, en la escuela… Cada uno debe de hacer su propio camino y desear salvarse. El vivir sin ningún sentimiento, consciencia o idea del tipo de jornada que estamos viviendo, el tipo de vida que estamos llevando es ser negligente para con nuestra vida espiritual. Si queremos ver el rostro de Dios tenemos que comenzar desde ya y no dejar que la muerte nos sorprenda. Como vemos, la luz, la espera, el estar preparados y la sabiduría son elementos reales y necesarios para nuestra salvación. No tomemos riesgos ni perdamos oportunidades en nuestro caminar hacia Dios. Esperemos a nuestro salvador, nuestro redentor, al novio listos. Esperemos con nuestras lámparas llenas del aceite de la sabiduría del Espíritu Santo y la luz de nuestras obras. Abramos las puertas de nuestros corazones al rey y cerrémoslas al príncipe de la oscuridad. ¡Con santa alegría, celebremos las bodas del Cordero!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you!

Part of my Catechetical Coordinator Certification program involves attending a monthly Formation Day workshop. I am taking this opportunity to share with you information from a presentation I attended last Saturday by Joe Paprocki, on Catechetical Methodology:

Catechetical leadership is a vocation. The word vocation comes from the Latin vocare, which means to call. We are each called by name to a ministerial role of servant leadership. Few of us, as children, dream of growing up to become a catechetical leader. Our encounter with God takes place in silence. As Elijah was fleeing from Jezebel, God appeared to him in a still small voice. The single most critical factor in an effective parish catechetical program is the leadership of a professionally trained parish catechetical leader (NDC 54B5). The formation of catechists is made up of different dimensions: being, knowing, and doing. The spirituality of a catechetical minister involves openness to God, openness to the Church, openness to the world, authenticity of life, missionary zeal, and devotion to Mary and the Saints.

Parte del programa de certificación de Coordinador de Catequesis consiste en asistir a un taller mensual de Días de Formación. Aprovecho esta oportunidad para compartir con ustedes información de una presentación sobre metodología catequética por Joe Paprocki que asistí el pasado sábado:

El liderazgo catequético es una vocación. La palabra vocación proviene del Latín vocare, que significa llamar. Somos llamados cada uno por nombre a ejercer un rol ministerial de liderazgo de servicio. Pocos de nosotros, cuando niños, soñábamos con convertirnos en líderes catequéticos adultos. Nuestro encuentro con Dios se lleva a cabo en silencio. Dios se le apareció a Elías en un susurro suave mientras huía de la reina Jezabel. El factor más crítico en un programa de catequesis parroquial eficaz es el liderazgo de un líder catequético parroquial profesionalmente entrenado (NDC 54B5). La formación de catequistas se compone de diferentes dimensiones: ser, saber y hacer. La espiritualidad de un ministro catequético implica apertura a Dios, apertura a la Iglesia, apertura al mundo, la autenticidad de vida, celo misionero y la devoción a María y los Santos.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Wednesday in the Thiele Center from 10am to noon. This group knits and crochets prayer shawls while praying individually and as a group for the recipient of each shawl. These shawls represent a visible

Recibimos nuestro primer cheque de reembolso que fue por $7,099.86. Nuestro próximo cheque de reembolso vendrá en el mes de febrero, 2018. La apelación es nuestra segunda recaudación de fondos más grande para la parroquia.
