Lesson 1 – Responding to the text

Consider what is unusual about the content of each bottle.

Using the image, discuss what you can see in the jars. Collect words and phrases

to describe the different settings in each bottle.

A jagged, rocky volcano

The deep, cold ocean

Tropical,

green palm trees

We are learning to: Respond to a text, using noun phrases To be successful: - Identify the nouns (the objects that you can see)

- Select two powerful adjectives to describe the noun

Lesson 3 – Build descriptive vocabulary

Create your own dream place, by drawing it on the jam jar template. (If you don’t

have a printer, you can always just draw your dream place).

Once you have created your dream place complete the table with words that you

could use in your writing. (You can write it on the template, or just write the words

down).

snow-topped mountains

endless crystal blue

sky

sheer rock faces

We are learning to: Create descriptive vocabulary

To be successful:

- Think of an effective adjective to describe each noun

- Include at least 5 expanded noun phrases (For example: towering, snow-topped mountains)

Challenge: Can you include a preposition as well as

an expanded noun phrase?

Challenge: Can you write a sentence that includes a preposition, as well as an expanded

noun phrase?

Prepositions are linking words in a sentence that tell us where something is and/or when something is happening.

The crystal blue sky stretched high above the mountain tops.

The small, white flowers clung precariously to the sheer rocky faces.
