he Akashic Records are defined as a universal filing system that holds a record of every occurring thought, word, and

action. This includes events from the past, present, and future. The Akashic Record is a documentation of everything that ever has happened or will happen; including thoughts, emotions, dreams, and actions. As a musical entity, the Akashic Record is a vessel for which the contents of these records can be communicated in a more earthly manner, by drawing parallels within their songs between the past, future, and present in order to bring the records to life. The idea that the past is just a step away from the future, and the future a step away from the present is what drives this musical force. Yes, there have

been changes throughout history, but there is still a string of thought, emotion, and ambition that drives us all while tying us to every version of us that ever has been or will be. The current incarnation of the Akashic Record manifested itself during 2009 in the middle of the Mojave Desert known as the Las Vegas Valley. It is made up of Jason Weiche, Brian Olson, Carlo Marquez, and Spencer Haley. Drawing influence wherever they see fit, the band continues to expand and delve deeper into the Akashic Records for further inspiration. As is suggested by the history and name of the group, the Akashic Record attempts to draw inspiration from several different instances of musical history while still remaining contemporary.

BIOGRAPHY

“The four Hendersonians of experimental/prog-rock ensemble The Akashic Record are being ambitious as hell on their debut full-length, Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron. Except for a few welcome exceptions such as the calmer, almost poppy “House of Horus,” the tracks have the same psychedelic qualities of The Mars Volta’s De-Loused in the Comatorium. Think disassociated screaming and disjointed guitars with heavy driving drums … The latter half of two-parter “Xibalba” is powerful and heart-felt, and more than any other track on the album (other than the equally right-on “The Rise and Fall of the Mongol King”), sounds like a part of a well-orchestrated whole. If AR can keep producing tracks of that caliber, we’re absolutely stoked for the next release.”

“...Local quartet The Akashic Record filled the middle slot and, oh God, drums baby. After a stalking, Sabbath-y introduction of eight bars or so, Carlo Marquez began driving this machine from the back of the stage, mapping out a rolling, syncopated, Latin-ized landscape of truncated phrases and 32nd-beat bullets that webbed out underneath minor chord descents, judicious leads and the affable howls of charismatic singer-guitarist Jason Weiche. Later on, a slow, intentionally stumbly build grew into a well-earned climax that defied time signature convention, then happily collapsed. The Akashic Record was on last

night, bringing airtight beats of glorious un-countability, and by the end of its set, the question was whether closing act The Bitters — the trio that actually claims Rush as a dominant influence — could get any closer to its north-of-the-border muse than these guys already had.”

- Dave Surratt : Las Vegas Citylife

“The Neon Reverb Music Festival invaded downtown Las Vegas once again and VEGAS ROCKS! Was there to capture all the excitement. It was four nights of lndie music from local favorites and out of town guests. I was there for local bands, Hey Zeus! The Akashic Record, and THE BITTERS at Yayo’s Tacos on Friday, March 11th … It was a musical journey that is always an amazing experience when Neon Reverb happens twice a year, so if you missed it this time around do yourself a favor and be sure to catch it in the fall!
