The Advocate
The official newsletter of Arndell Anglican College
From the Deputy’s Desk Mr James Webb
Four weeks in and the College is flying. So many activities that make up the
day to day life of the College.
We are blessed to have great staff and great children. However there are
some housekeeping matters both across the College and in the High School
in particular that I would like to draw your attention to.
Attendance:
Section 22 of the Education Act (1990) requires that parents (including
caregivers) ensure that children of compulsory school age are enrolled at and
regularly attend school. The New South Wales Department of Education may
take legal action against parents and caregivers who do not send their children
to school without a valid reason.
All parents with a child(ren) enrolled at Arndell Anglican College must adhere
to the rules regarding student attendance at both school itself and at each
timetabled class. Inconsistent attendance is considered to be detrimental to
children’s progress, and holidays extended into term time are firmly
discouraged for the same reason.
It is crucial that as a College we monitor all attendance and in doing so your
role as a parent or caregiver is of paramount importance.
Role of Parents:
ensuring that their children attend school every day the school is open
for their instruction;
explaining the absences of their children from school promptly by
means such as a telephone call, written note, text message, online
via our Parent Portal (high school) or email to the school within 3 days
from the first day of any period of absence;
working in partnership with the school to plan and implement
strategies to support regular attendance at school, including
communicating with the school if they are aware of issues impacting
on their child's attendance or engagement with school.
Seeking Extended Leave:
Parents it is a mandatory obligation that any leave over 2 days is
formally requested through the Headmaster and in writing.
Impacting exams and other assessed tasks can have significant
learning consequences. Please be mindful of those times.
Disputes:
From time to time there are matters that the College needs to be made aware of. This can be in the form of a grievance
with respect to an operational matter, staff issues or other concerns. Staff and management at Arndell work collaboratively
to create a high quality educational environment in a climate of trust and respect between parents, students and
professionals. It is crucial that all matters are dealt with in a timely and professional manner. If you have a concern in the
first instance please:
address this to your child’s class teacher or Homeroom Tutor.
If the matter is of a serious nature then please:
contact your child’s Stage Co-ordinator or in the high school the Head of House or Head of Department.
If the matter is of an unresolved nature or of significant concern then please:
direct this concern to the Deputy or Head of Junior School or the Head of Middle School or Head of Senior
School in the high school.
Other matters can be addressed to myself as Deputy Head of the College or of course The Headmaster.
Open lines of communication will, hopefully resolve matters quickly. Shortly I will put up on our website a number of policies
which relate to Communication, Grievance, Child Protection and Attendance. I do urge parents to make themselves familiar
with these policies. Any questions please do not hesitate to email me at:
Uniform – with particular reference to the High School:
Parents we have a uniform code found in every student’s diary. It is essential that this code is followed.
Rules regarding hair, jewellery, make-up etc is kept simple so that there is no confusion as to expectations. However the
length of girl’s dresses is becoming a real and present issue.
The rules for all are that the dress should fall to mid-knee when standing. A number of girls are wearing dresses significantly
shorter than this. They are being challenged and I do expect parents to support the actions we may need to take. If you
have any questions on any of these matters please email me, drop in for a chat or call.
Years 3-6 in the Junior School have been enjoying Minecraft Monday at lunchtime in 5 Green's room with Mr Mills.
There's lots of excitement, fun, skill sharing, building and of course... destruction! We are currently getting our iPads, apps
and worlds set up, sharing our skills and ideas over the next couple of weeks before we start some serious construction and
some grade tournaments (with prizes! Shhh...) Minecraft ROCKS!

Luke 6:38 Give and you will receive. You will be given much. It will be poured
into your hands-more than you can hold. You will be given so much that it will
spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.
‘Get Paddington hearts. Love those around you. Dare to see the best in all
your fellow students….be kind, be generous. Dare to give away your
marmalade sandwiches – whatever marmalade sandwiches means for you. It’s
the way of God’s amazing kingdom…the more you give-Jesus says-the more
you will receive…Paddington hearts in 2018!’
