Following distribution of the first Adrian Standard, I received many compliments on the content and the design of the newsletter. In addition, we received a couple of helpful messages requesting content for future editions. The balance of this article is a response to one such message.

The Adrian Standard’s foundational edition has garnered a great deal of feedback for the Enrollment Division to reflect upon. As stated in the initial offering, the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, and Marketing & Public Relations hope to continue to utilize this format as one vehicle to provide the Adrian College community with useful information regarding the organization’s activities and as a mode of communication regarding promotional events.

We have invested a considerable amount of time to reflect on a few, specific questions raised as a result of the initial edition. In upcoming editions, we will attempt to respond to your feedback with thoughtful analysis and interesting data.

Some have suggested that this year’s record class is the result of a diminished academic admission standard on behalf of the Office of Admissions. The data below is provided to illustrate the academic quality of this year’s incoming class. The Office of the Vice President & Dean of Academic Affairs reviewed and confirmed these data.

New Adrian.edu launch

In November, Adrian College launched an innovative and dynamic new look for adrian.edu. The completely redesigned website offered a fully interactive and visually appealing perspective for prospective students and friends of the College. From social media interaction to photographic enhancement, the new appearance reflected the branding strategy implemented throughout the course of the previous year.

“The Adrian College website had not undergone significant redevelopment in over five years,” said Jennifer Compton, director of Public Relations. “The efforts to create a user-friendly and engaging site was as a direct result of over a year of study and analysis on what students are looking for in an educational website.”

The new adrian.edu offers a stimulating approach to information using multimedia and direct engagement with staff and faculty. A streamlined look with a return to the ‘black and gold’ roots of the institution, adrian.edu invites users to explore its contents with ease.

“The collaboration of staff at Adrian College with Prime Studios resulted in a fully-functional and unique opportunity to promote the outstanding programs and faculty that call Adrian home,” said Compton.

“Though not without its ‘growing pains’, we believe the new look will result in a favorable response from prospective and current students as well as the greater Adrian College family.”

Scholarship Day is the next major, on-campus event hosted by the Office of Admissions. This event will be held on three different dates during Spring Semester (January 19, February 16, and March 16) and is meant for admitted students only. Students who are invited select an academic discipline that they have an interest in and spend the day with other incoming students who share the same interest. During this event, they have the opportunity to interact with professors and current students from their selected department and are able to experience what it is like to be an Adrian College student in that specific program. While the students are provided with an in-depth look at the academic departments, parents and other guests of the students have a separate agenda and gain a substantial amount of valuable information. Visitors will learn more about Financial Aid, Career Planning, the Institutes, and the Honors Program.

This event is highly successful because attendees can potentially earn a renewable $2,000 scholarship ($8,000 over four years) for participating. The

elevated attendance at this event can be attributed to the importance of financial assistance, which is often a deciding factor when a student is selecting where to obtain their degree. In addition, the amount of information provided appeals to students and their guests and provides them with an opportunity to experience something that many other colleges do not offer. The faculty and staff who lead and participate in the programs offered at Scholarship Day are given the task of enhancing the Adrian College experience. They succeed through their personalized interactions with the attendees and by bringing Adrian’s various departments to life through their presentations and programs. The combination of a potential scholarship and the in-depth, informative sessions prove to be an effective way to encourage students to visit campus. Current statistics show that 40% of students who visit campus ultimately enroll (a rate that is much higher than peer schools) making this event fundamental when securing incoming students. For more information regarding this event, please visit the Adrian College website at adrian.edu.

We hope these data illuminate the fact that this class is distinguishable by more than simply its large enrollment number. This class has retained the academic standard we all have strived to achieve in a very demanding environment. In addition to the data provided above, this class boasts the largest number of freshmen with an ACT composite score of 25 or higher.

approximately 165 students and their families to Adrian College’s campus. Faculty, staff, and several students assisted with the preparation and implementation of the event and the success of Bulldog 101 would not have been possible without them. Their hard work and dedication to Adrian College

It also claims the College’s largest number of out-of-state students while drawing a significant number with strong leadership backgrounds. This class includes the largest number of non-athletes and is also the College’s most diverse – comprised of the highest percentage (30%) of minorities compared to any other class in the College’s history.
