May 27th is BOND ISSUE ELECTION DAY!

The 2013-2014 school year has been an unprecedented year for the French language program at Gulfport High. There was a record number of enrollment, particularly in the AP French class with 23 students. Students are realizing the importance of not only the French language but the relevance of French culture in today's global society. For example, French is the second most learned language after English. Gulfport High School's French program is particularly proud of our own 11th grader Emily Tipton for placing 5th in the state and 19th in the nation on the National French Exam. Congratulations are in order for this great achievement! Great job, Mr. Barrett Taylor!

SENIOR END-OF-THE-YEAR REMINDERS:

Pay any fines or fees at GHS by May 28th. Remember to pay

your senior dues! Read the Senior Spring Calendar and be mindful of all

important dates. Do not miss the mandatory senior practice in the

auditorium on May 29th at 9:00 a.m. Senior report cards will be issued during this practice.

If you want to order a graduation DVD, access the link www.diamondprovideo.com. You may pay online, mail to the address within the link, or wait until the day of graduation to order. The Diamond Productions sales booth will be present the day of graduation.

Pick up your cap and gown on May 30th. ($45.00) You may pick up your can and gown between the hours of 8:30 and 12 p.m. in the new gym.

The senior picnic is at the Waterpark from 11-2, but you may stay later if you choose to do so. The Baccalaureate Service for seniors is at 4:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Please arrive by 3:30 p.m.

DRESS CODE REMINDER: All young men are to have shirts tucked, and no sagging pants are allowed. Young ladies need to be mindful of the appropriate length (no shorter than 4 inches above the knee) of shorts, skirts, and dresses. Razor-back shirts and spaghetti strap shirts are not permitted. Cleavage must not be exposed.

District FACTS: Current Enrollment – 6310

High School FACTS: Gulfport High School is designated as an Innovative High School by the Mississippi Department of Education. This designation was given to Gulfport High School for devising an educational pathway for all students that better prepares students for college and career readiness. First High School in Mississippi to develop Academic Institutes. Students spend the first two years of high school in a rigorous educational environment with success measured by the ACT as an end of the domain test. This provides college and career readiness data that allows students to choose a career pathway.

GHS Additions and Renovations: Increase Security and Safety – GHS will move from 74 entrances to 4 with the building renovations and aesthetic fencing. Buildings will provide new facilities to meet Academic Institutes concept for “Communications, Arts, and Business”, “Health and Human Services”, and “Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics”. This includes new science and technology labs as well academy centered workspaces for large group presentations. Master Plan allows expansion of ALL programs and spaces. Every facet of Gulfport High School will see improvement in educational space and improvement in facility usage. Media Center will be redesigned to allow for more technological space. Oldest, most outdate buildings will be removed. Existing buildings that will remain will be updated to conform to safety, ADA, and fire codes as well as expanded communication, safety, and technology networking components.

Come out and eat at Newk’s in Gulfport this Tuesday evening on May 13th between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to show your support for the Gulfport High football team and the cheerleaders.
