Care andSupportThe Academy prides itself on, and has areputation for, the excellent support that itprovides for all of its students. There are PastoralLeaders at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4who are key to the success of students as theygrow towards adulthood. Each of the PastoralLeaders has a team of Tutors who are the firstpoint of call for any questions concerning yourchild. Tutors meet with their group twice a dayand have the important role of getting to knowtheir tutor group well so that they can supportthem with both their pastoral and academicneeds as the years progress. Each of thestudents will also belong to a second family –that of their House. The Houses, named afterthe historic Lifeboats of Selsey consist of aHouse Head and a tutor group from each of thefive year groups. This enables students in all yeargroups to get to know and support each other, through numerous joint activities, competitionsand events to develop team building andleadership skills. Challenge days, JuniorApprentice and Inter House Sports have becomeannual events on The Academy calendar.

Support for all students begins at the point oftransition. Transition is both an exciting anddaunting time for children and parents alike. AtThe Academy we begin our transition work asearly as May by visiting the Primary Schools todiscuss vital information with staff that willsupport a successful transition into Year 7. Pastoral care concerns and individual needsinformation are shared so that plans of actionand interventions can be put in place to ensurethat the transition process is as worry free aspossible. All students can attend Year 5 fundays, Year 6 taster days and Year 7 inductiondays to support this process. The Pastoral CareTeam continue working with individual childrenon a 1:1 basis at their Primary School untilsatisfied that every child is prepared.

The Inclusive Learning Team works effectively tosupport students with identified issues toremove barriers to learning. Students with avariety of additional needs gain support bothwithin and outside the classroom. LearningAssistants are available to support all studentsand staff in mainstream lessons and also insmall groups within the Learning Support Area.Careful attention is always given to theassessment of pupils’ special educational needsand disabilities.

The Academy is a very nice place to be, I will take pride in all that I do
