(Revelation 14:7) By the first angel, men are called upon to"fear God, and give glory to Him" and to worship Him as theCreator of the heavens and the earth. In order to do this,

they must obey His law. Says the wise man: "Fear God, andkeep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."Ecclesiastes 12:13. Without obedience to Hiscommandments no worship can be pleasing to God. "This is

the love of God, that we keep His commandments." "He thatturneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayershall be abomination ." 1 John 5:3; Proverbs 28:9. {GC 436.1}

The abominations for which the faithful ones weresighing and crying were all that could be discernedby finite eyes, but by far the worst sins, those whichprovoked the jealousy of the pure and holy God,were unrevealed. The great Searcher of heartsknoweth every sin committed in secret by the

workers of iniquity. These persons come to feelsecure in their deceptions and, because of His long-suffering, say that the Lord seeth not, and then act

as though He had forsaken the earth. But He willdetect their hypocrisy and will open before othersthose sins which they were so careful to hide . -5Testimonies, 211-212:0. (Jer. 17:9-10)

Mark this point with care: Those who receive the pure mark of truth,wrought in them by the power of the Holy Ghost, represented by amark by the man in linen, are those "that sigh and that cry for all theabominations that be done" in the church. Now is the time to prepare.The seal of God will never be placed upon the forehead of an impureman or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of theambitious, world-loving man or woman. It will never be placed uponthe forehead of men or women of false tongues or deceitful hearts. All

who receive the seal must be without spot before God--candidates forheaven . {Mar 240.6} (Eze. 9:4)

The leaven of godliness has not entirely lost its power. At the timewhen the danger and depression of the church are greatest, the littlecompany who are standing in the light will be sighing and crying forthe abominations that are done in the land. But more especially willtheir prayers arise in behalf of the church because its members aredoing after the manner of the world. -5 Testimonies, 209:9 (Jeremiah.

The day of Gods vengeance is just upon us. The seal of Godwill be placed upon the foreheads of those only who sighand cry for the abominations done in the land. Those who

link in sympathy with the world are eating and drinking withthe drunken and will surely be destroyed with the workers ofiniquity. The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and hisears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is

against them that do evil. -5 Testimonies, 212:3. (Matt.7:21-23)

If we continue to cherish sin, our prayers will be an

abomination to the Lord. "He that covereth his sinsshall not prosper: but whoso confesseth andforsaketh them shall have mercy ." (RH, December 9,1890)

Obedience to the commandments of men instead of to thecommandments of God will be as abomination in the sightof God; for what God requires is essential to the highest

good of his subjects, and is therefore essential for the gloryof God. {ST, September 24, 1894 par. 4} (Matt. 15:3-9)

It is a solemn statement that I make to the church, that not one in

twenty whose names are registered upon the church books areprepared to close their earthly history, and would be as verily withoutGod and without hope in the world as the common sinner. They areprofessedly serving God, but they are more earnestly servingmammon. This half-and-half work is a constant denying of Christ,rather than a confessing of Christ. So many have brought into thechurch their own unsubdued spirit, unrefined; their spiritual taste isperverted by their own immoral, debasing corruptions, symbolizingthe world in spirit, in heart, in purpose, confirming themselves inlustful practices, and are full of deception through and through in theirprofessed Christian life. Living as sinners, claiming to be Christians!Those who claim to be Christians and will confess Christ should comeout from among them and touch not the unclean thing, and be

The organization of the order of Jesuits, in reality a papacy of thepapacy, sent into the world a body of active workers, shrewd, welleducated, and armed with a double-faced conscience, which enabled

them to penetrate anywhere and assume any role. One of their mostefficient methods of procedure was in the schools. They founded newschools in the very shadow of the Protestant institutions, and drewfrom their patronage; or when this was impossible, they entered

Protestant schools under the guise of Protestant teachers. Everywherethey gained the children and the youth. {1905 SNH, SSP 198.2}

The Lord has a controversy with his professed people inthese last days. In this controversy men in responsiblepositions will take a course directly opposite to that pursuedby Nehemiah. They will not only ignore and despise theSabbath themselves, but they will try to keep it from othersby burying it beneath the rubbish of custom and tradition. In

churches and in large gatherings in the open air, ministerswill urge upon the people the necessity of keeping the firstday of the week. There are calamities on sea and land: andthese calamities will increase, one disaster following close

upon another; and the little band of conscientious Sabbath-keepers will be pointed out as the ones who are bringing thewrath of God upon the world by their disregard of Sunday.{RH, March 18, 1884 par. 8} (2 Thess. 2:3) (1 Ti. 4:1).

The mark of the beast will be urged upon us. Those whohave step by step yielded to worldly demands andconformed to worldly customs will not find it a hard matter

to yield to the powers that be, rather than subjectthemselves to derision, insult, threatened imprisonment,and death. The contest is between the commandments ofGod and the commandments of men. In this time the gold

will be separated from the dross in the church. Truegodliness will be clearly distinguished from the appearanceand tinsel of it. Many a star that we have admired for itsbrilliancy will then go out in darkness. Chaff like a cloud willbe borne away on the wind, even from places where we seeonly floors of rich wheat. All who assume the ornaments ofthe sanctuary, but are not clothed with Christsrighteousness, will appear in the shame of their ownnakedness. {OFC 328.4} (Matt. 3:12)

A National Sunday Law Means National ApostasyTo secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to thedemand for a Sunday law....By the decree enforcing the institution of

the papacy in violation of the law of God our nation will disconnectherself fully from righteousness. . . . {LDE 132.4}As the approach of the Roman armies was a sign to the disciples of

the impending destruction of Jerusalem, so may this apostasy be asign to us that the limit of God's forbearance is reached.--5T 451(1885). {LDE 133.1} {Matt. 24:15}When the law of God has been made void and apostasy becomes anational sin, the Lord will work in behalf of His people.--3SM 388(1889). {LDE 133.3} (Is. 60:1-3)

The people of the United States have been a favored people, butwhen they restrict religious liberty, surrender Protestantism, and givecountenance to popery, the measure of their guilt will be full, and"national apostasy" will be registered in the books of heaven.--RH May2, 1893. {LDE 133.4}

In the last days, Spiritual Israel will instantlyrecognize the sign of the abomination of

desolation and will flee to safety. In general, trueChristians in the last days will progressivelywithdraw from the more densely populated areasand cities to more rural areas. They will not flee tothe hills until the Great Tribulation begins. Up untilthe Close of Probation, Gods people will still have amission to proclaim the Gospel to the undecided.Only after the Close of Probation when their missionis complete will they finally flee to the safety ofremote places.

The time is not far distant, when, like the early disciples, weshall be forced to seek a refuge in desolate and solitaryplaces. As the siege of Jerusalem by the Roman armies was

the signal for flight to the Judean Christians, so theassumption of power on the part of our nation [the UnitedStates] in the decree enforcing the papal sabbath will be awarning to us. It will then be time to leave the large cities,

preparatory to leaving the smaller ones for retired homes insecluded places among the mountains. {Mar 180.1}

When our nation, in its legislative councils, shall enact lawsto bind the consciences of men in regard to their religious

privileges, enforcing Sunday observance, and bringingoppressive power to bear against those who keep theseventh-day Sabbath, the law of God will, to all intents andpurposes, be made void in our land, and national apostasy
