The 51st North Devon Show will take place at Umberleigh Barton Farm on Wednesday 2nd August

a fantastic day out for the family

The Show prides itself on retaining the agricultural heritage of the area, as well as showcasing the magnifi-cent animals bred in our region, we also have a fabulous display of produce in our foodhall. Our area has a fine tradition of producing high quality food plus a variety of local beers and wines. Over the years we have endeavoured to provide a first class agricultural show embracing the country way of life through our Rural Skills, Vintage Vehicles and Rare Breeds of animals, to the future with our traders providing an excellent range of high tech machinery and farming equipment. This year we are running our Long Service Awards in Agriculture & Horticulture and new classes have been introduced in our Horticul-tural and Floral Art Schedule. We have introduced a Pig Exhibition this year and demonstrations from Dartington Crystal will be taking place in the Arcade throughout the day. We have a Fairground and lots of attractions including in the Main Ring: Bolddog ‘Lings’ Freestyle Team and in our Tarka Ring: Mountain Aerial Display Team. Plus all our other firm favourites: Crafts & Gifts, Arcade, Open trade, Country Pursuits, Classic Cars, Young Farmers Rally and much more. Also, keep your eye out for TITAN the Robot making appearances during the day.

All this, set in the beautiful North Devon Countryside offers a perfect day out. There are buses from South Molton and a shuttle bus from Umberleigh Railway Station.

In addition, free parking is available on site all day.

Devon County Council is reminding working parents of children aged three and four that their entitlement to free childcare and early learning will rise from 15 hours to a potential 30 hours per week from September 2017. The deadline for applications to use the extra Government funding, for children expected to start childcare this September, is on 31 August. But before then parents must apply online to re-ceive an 11 digit code from HMRC to take to a childcare provider who must validate the code with Devon County Council. That might take time the closer to the end of the August deadline To be eligible, parents must be in work and earning the equivalent of 16 hours per week at the nation-al minimum wage £120 a week or £6,000 a year. You can apply for your 11 digit code from the HMRC online. More information at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/

The dreams of the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon (MBND) team will soon become reality, as all the funding is now in place and its extension project can begin! The final piece of the funding jigsaw is now in place and the Herit-age Lottery Fund has given the museum "permission to start" its £1.8m project to extend the Long Bridge side of the building. For more information about corporate sponsor-ship contact the museum on 01271 346747 or email [email protected].

Final round of consultation for Local Plan The final round of consultation on the main modifications to the draft North Devon and Torridge Local

Plan has started. The modifications were re-quested by the Planning Inspector during exami-nation hearings last year. They are needed to comply with national policy and to make sure the Plan will be found sound when the Inspector re-sumes the examination later this year, before be-ing adopted, scheduled for the end of this year. An important outcome of the modifications is that the Local Plan will be able to demonstrate a suffi-cient supply of land for housing development that could be brought forward over the next five years to meet requirements when adopted. The Local Plan sets out how North Devon and Torridge will develop up to 2031. It shows what development the area needs and where it might be located. Lead Member for the Local Plan at North Devon Council, Councillor Jeremy Yabsley, said: "During this new consultation we can only con-sider comments on these main modifications not what has already been agreed - I would like to thank everyone who has got involved with all of our previous consultations." The consultation ends on 1 September. Local residents and organisations can have their say online. Paper copies can be viewed at Council

offices and at libraries.
