on Development of Urban Economy with Green Environment”

Background

Urbanization has made rapid stride with the increase in world population. The various components in the urban and peri urban ecosystem are also changing continuously. Environmental pollution reduction, employment and income generation etc. are some of the important facets of urban and peri urban horticulture. A spontaneous shift thus to urban horticulture is also taking place. Urban green space comprises with natural, seminatural and artificial habitats. Development of adequate green space is essential to mitigate different environmental challenges. Planned landscape and urban horticulture will ensure better urban ecosystem and would help for sustainable livelihood even of resource poor people.

The Conference has been arranged during 12 to 14th September, 2013 in Kolkata under the aegies of ISHS, SAH, BCKV, Govt.of West Bengal, Govt. of India and many others.

Conference Theme :

The theme proposed for the conference is “Landscape horticulture, urban economy and development of green environment for changing quality of life”

Objectives :

Conference will review and deliberate upon the following issues:

Ø Organic food production and green environment for cities and urban people

Ø Influence of art, culture, aesthetic factors in landscape

Ø Maintenance of biodiversity in the urban areas for a sustainable environment

Ø Plants in urban landscape for sustainable development

Ø Landscape planning using modern technological interventions

Ø Urban wetland and waste land management

Ø Urban tourism, horticulture and green environment

Ø Disaster management in urban green environment

Ø Role of Govt., Non-Govt., Corporate sectors and others for sustenance of urban horticulture

The objective of the conference is to provide an unique opportunity for scholars, scientists and others with multidisciplinary approach to harness the available potential for furtherance the cause of landscape and urban horticulture and environment.

India is a country with long history of architecture, landscape etc. In the contemporary landscaping among the gardening styles, the Mughal type deserves attention which has originated in India and the contribution of Mughal Emperor is quite significant.

In the vast and beautiful land of India, Indian people live with various modes of production and life style. TajMahal – one of the seven wonders of the world is in India. India is one of the developing country and its rapid economic development is significant. India is the largest democratic country in the world.

West Bengal a province in India and its capital Kolkata was the capital of India during British regime till 1911. It's agroclimate is diverse as it has Himalayas in the north comprising Darjeeling (a beautiful hill station and famous for Darjeeling tea) and in the south the enchanting Sunderbans (Royal Bengal Tiger Reserve).

The diverse agroclimate has assisted to develop diversified landscape and rapid urbanization has encouraged to develop urban horticulture. Green environment is the challenge for pollution reduction and for changing quality of life.
