This was stated by Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Vice Chancellor DrMujeebuddinSehrai while presiding over the inaugural session of the two-day second international conference on agriculture, food and animal sciences that began at the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam on Wednesday where two German researchers shared their research through separate presentations

The moot was inaugurated ByMohammad Aslam UqailiThe Vice Chancellor ofMehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro.

German scholar DrJurgenHescheler talked about his research on stem cell that aims to make those cells functional which stop working after heart attack. His research is still under way which he believes is of unique nature. He said that after its completion the research would be ultimately beneficial to cardiac patients.

Prof Gerhard Schuler discussed different issues during pregnancy among cows and related complications. He said these issues were mainly due to the fact that people were not aware of latest techniques and knowledge about dealing with these issues.

Mr :MuddinSehrai called for expanding research base, saying that hunger had become a global problem now which could only be tackled with the development of agriculture and livestock sectors. He announced that such conference would be held after every two years. Today’s event would provide an opportunity to scientists and researchers to find out some solution to problems out of their deliberations, he added.

Dr Aslam Uqaili advocated strong linkages between universities within Pakistan, saying that there was a great potential in universities. Prior to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) which promoted research culture, the universities used to be just colleges, he added.

Universities were answerable to communities to serve them with innovations in their research and to work for their economic and social uplift simultaneously, he said. Quality education should be imparted to the poor. He said universities should produce future leaders and not mere graduates and such conferences provided this opportunity.

DrManzoor H Soomro, president of the Economic Cooperation Organization’s Science Foundation (Ecosf), said strong human infrastructure development could yield results for people. He said efficient management was essential in all respects and added that universities were closely connected with businessmen and community. Socio-economic development should be backed by critical thinking and creativity. He announced two scholarships on merit for SAU students.
