throughout the country to discuss challenges, concerns and issues facing individual jurisdictions in the oversight of the ever-changing workers’

compensation industry. Problems faced by one jurisdiction may have been successfully addressed by another. A developing issue or concern in one

state may be an omen for future developments in another and certainly, legislative issues know no boundaries. Join us where regulators share.

Session 6: “Top 10 Medical Issues Impacting State Systems ”

Paul Tauriello, Director, Colorado Division of WC Medical issues and their related costs have grown over the past 20 years till

they now represent the majority of every dollar spent on workers’ comp.

Effectively managing the most significant issues can mean the difference

between a system that appropriately responds to the needs of the injured workers and a system out of control. Topics to be discussed include:

Treatment Delay; New Technology; Telemedicine; Medical Fee Schedules;

Formulary; Physician Dispensing; PBM’s; Opioids; Medical Marijuana and

Various Legal issues including Medical Fee Disputes.

An overview of the challenges, responsibilities, and issues of

administering individual self-insured guaranty funds including discussions

of reserving, types of security and amounts, importance of specific excess and aggregate stop-loss insurance, employer and carrier defaults,

distinction between self-insurance guaranty funds and the property &

casualty insurance guaranty associations, and the growing intrusion by

Federal Bankruptcy Courts as it relates to posted security.

Discussion will focus on issues that work against the creation and operation of an efficient, responsive, and economically sustainable

workers’ compensation program and those initiatives and options which

might be used to combat the “friction in the system”. Session 9: “EDI – Summary & Update”

Gregg provides an EDI update… which states are using which

version ...and focuses on what is new and what we can expect in the future.

Susan Schulte, DOL Focus Lead, NCCI

Andrew Sabolic will summarize the enforcement initiatives used by Florida to encourage compliance, sharing “tools of the trade” …and Susan

Schulte will explain the importance of adequate and correct reporting by employers, carriers, and TPA’s and how it all fits to a level playing field for

all employers.

Session 11: “Developing Tools, Resources, & Networks”

This final session will provide an overview of the various national, regional, and statewide associations that exist to support the workers'

On August 7th at 2pm Workers’ Compensation Regulators from

throughout the nation will come together to discuss challenges,

concerns and issues facing jurisdictions in the oversight of an ever-

changing workers’ compensation industry. Problems facing one

jurisdiction may have already been successfully addressed by

another. Developing issues in one state may be an omen for future

developments in another and legislative issues know no boundaries.

The National Regulators Roundtable© is a forum where regulators

share lessons learned and seek timely answers to their most pressing
