This summer, broadcasters fromall over the world will coverstories from London, eitherdirectly from the Olympic venuesor stories that reflect the city ofLondon: its residents, its visitors,its hidden gems, its culture and,of course, the world’s athletesstaying there.

For this year’s AIBs, we havecreated a special award foroutstanding coverage of Londonand the Games – we have calledit Best coverage of London 2012.

We’re searching for the beststories that have been told in themost compelling way around theOlympics.

Inspiring and intelligent – was the feedback andthe buzz in the room at the AIB InternationalMedia Awards last year. Now the 2012 AIBs arewell underway, with winners and finalists to beannounced on 7 November. AIB CEO SimonSpanswick reports

search for the best factual content inTV and radio. And entries for theAIBs 2012 are still coming in for theʹBest coverage of London 2012ʹcategory, closing on 20 September.

We know producers and editorssubmit their work because winningan AIB brings peer recognition forthe producer, respect to those whocommissioned the work and showsthat a channelʹs programming andcontent is really working, deliveringthe very best to audiences.

JUDGESFor the majority of AIBs awardscategories – there are 18 in total –shortlisting is now underway toarrive at the – usually long –shortlist. Then our judges will havethe difficult task to determine theoutright winner among what is

already an outstanding range ofentries. As in previous years, ourjudges are drawn from all sectors ofthe media. They are respectedprofessionals in their field and wegreatly appreciate that they givetheir time and expertise sogenerously in the judging process.

AWARDS NIGHTOn Wednesday 7 November thewinners and finalists of the AIBInternational Media Awards willfinally be announced at a glitteringawards gala in London. We arereturning to the magnificent visualand acoustic space of LSO St Lukeʹs‐ a venue that consistently wowsour guests from all over the world.

Itʹs an evening that celebratesexcellence and success. In thecourse of this evening, as finalistsand winners are showcased on thebig screen, our guests will get avery real insight into the qualityand the range of entries as well ashaving the chance to meet theirpeers from all over the world. Andthere’s always a surprise or twoduring the evening.
