E he Ward Foundation’s 1988

World ChampionshipWildfowl Carving Competition was a record breaker.

More carvers entered the competitionthan ever before, demonstrating thegrowing popularity of bird carving inAmerica, and worldwide. A total of 918carvers entered 2127 pieces in theprestigious juried exhibition, whichattracted artists from as far away asNorway and Japan.

The competition is held duringOcean City’s offseason for tourism, butthe city’s Convention Center was‘acked all weekend, even though an.~ntire floor was added this year toaccommodate more retail display areas.

The competition began on Thursday with a series of carving and paintingseminars, and the carvings ~vent onexhibit Friday morning. Judging beganon Friday and ended late Saturdayafternoon, when the World Class win-
