THE HARVEST
Most fruits and vegetables grow through the summer.
In autumn they are collected. This is called the harvest.
HARVEST FESTIVALS
After the harvest, many people want to thank God for all the food.
There are church services called Harvest Festivals or Thanksgiving Services.
These services started hundred of years ago.
THE PILGRIM FATHERS In September 1620, a group
of English people ,called the Pilgrim Fathers ,sailed from Plymouth (in the South West of England) to Cape Cod in North America.
THE MAYFLOWER They sailed for 66 dangerous
days in a ship called The Mayflower.
They finally arrived in New England (which they called Cape Cod).
Indians and Pilgrims
There were Indians living in New England.
Sometimes the Pilgrims fought with them .
Other times they learnt a lot from the Indians: how to grow and cook new kinds of fruit and vegetables, etc.
In 1621 they celebrated their first harvest.
