FEEDING HUNGRY KIDS
Your kindness and generosity can add to the bounty of nu-
tritious snacks Holy Spirit parish delivers every week for
the homeless, low income, food insecure and hungry kids at
SPASH. Buy a box or 2 of NutriGrain bars and bring them
to the Thanksgiving eve Mass or to the weekend Masses
before and after Thanksgiving. Or you can make a mone-
tary donation to purchase fruit, bars and cheese sticks and
add it to the collection in an envelope with a memo, Feed-
ing Hungry Kids. 20-30 hungry high school students will
say thank you every day!
Thanksgiving Mass
Anticipate our nation’s celebration of giving thanks by celebrating Eucharist, the Church’s
primary ritual of thanksgiving.

Dear Holy Spirit Parish:
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words
will not pass away.” (Mark 13:31)
With the end of the Church year only a week away, our scripture
readings turn to the end of time. Remembering our time in this
world is limited reminds us that this world we now inhabit is not our home. We
await the new heaven and new earth Jesus’ words tell us of.
My world has been shaken by Lee Olsen’s announcement she is retiring the end of
this month. When the foundation moves…. The whole house is shaken!! Please
come next Sunday at 9:15am to Spirit Hall to join in giving thanks for the fun,
faith and determined hard work Lee has brought us these past 20 years. There is
great comfort in knowing that even though Lee will not be working full time in
the office, she will remain involved in parish life and help her successor until she
learns the ropes.
And we have a successor! After interviewing with parish members, the staff, Lee,
and myself, we offered the position to one of three excellent applicants, and she
accepted! Tanya Mlodik comes to us from Wittenberg. Most recently Tanya has
been the Business Health Administrative Specialist and Medical Receptionist at
Aspirus Hospital here in Stevens Point. Earlier in life she was the Administrative
Assistant for two Lutheran Churches in the Rosholt area. Our interview teams
were impressed with her great people skills and her experience with keeping a
church operating smoothly. Lee will begin training her in this week. Please give
Tanya a Holy Spirit welcome when you see her!
Foundations will be shifting at this Thursday’s Pastoral Council meeting. Our
Sacred Worship Committee will be coming with their proposed action plan for
implementing the changes in our Sunday Eucharist recommended by Fr. Mallon in
his book Divine Renovation. They have prioritized things like hospitality, Spirit
focused preaching, integrating both contemporary and traditional music styles,
using quality sound equipment, prayer ministry after Mass, and Name Tag Sun-
days and laid out a plan to implement the top priorities beginning with Advent.
Once the Parish Council has approved the work of the Sacred Worship committee,
the other committees can then decide how they will support the plan.
It will also be at this Thursday’s Parish Council meeting that we hear the results
from the Campus Ministry Committee’s study of the feasibility of adding FOCUS
Missionaries to our Campus Ministry. The three factors that have been studied
are: 1) does the mission and spirituality of FOCUS Ministries support the mission
and spirituality of Holy Spirit parish, 2) how will they be funded 3) do we have
the resources (especially facility space) to support an expanding Campus Ministry.
An important meeting happens this week in regard to the funding. We pastors of
parishes with Campus Ministry are meeting with the Director of the Diocesan
Annual Appeal who you may have noticed gave FOCUS ministries a prominent
place in the campaign materials this year. We pastors are anxious to learn the spe-
cifics about the level of support the Diocese is going to commit to.
Answers to the questions written on our survey about FOCUS several weeks back
can be found on the parish website. On the home page, adjacent to the YouTube
graphic, there is a link for the “FOCUS Informational Document.” As always,
Parish Council members welcome your input on these issues so important to the
future of our parish.
Looking ahead a bit, we will again be offering the Sacrament of the Anointing of
the Sick the first Sunday of Advent after the 10:30am Mass. That morning at the
8:00am Mass we will celebrate the Rite of Welcome for our RCIA candidates. If
we keep our eyes focused on the new heavens and new earth Jesus announces, we
will not be as disturbed by the passing of the old.
MISSION STATEMENT Disciples called to worship,
sent to serve.
VISION STATEMENT By the year 2023, Holy Spirit Parish will: provide worship opportunities where all are welcome and welcomed; where each person feels supported and encour-aged to meet Jesus in a real and personal way; where we are strengthened to go forth to share our talents and resources with others within and beyond our par-ish.
support parish committees with prayer-ful consideration and utilization of the generous gifts of time, talent, and treas-ure offered by the members of our par-ish.
engage and awaken people of all ages to the lifelong process of seeking Jesus through faith growth experiences.
invite all to feel welcomed and cher-ished as members of our parish family, and to deepen our connections through ministries of compassion, small group gatherings and fellowship events that reflect the love of Christ.
empower Holy Spirit Parish, according to the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church, to meet the needs of all Crea-tion with love, prayer, and service through acts of Social Justice and Charita-ble Works in our community, nation, and world.
cultivate a community of faith that em-powers and supports students to grow as disciples of Christ.
provide every family, who would like, the opportunity for a Catholic School Education.
