Dues update The SRHOA Board would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s voluntary dues collection. We are delighted to report that neighborhood participation is up this year! Your voluntary payment goes toward insurance and maintenance of our trails and open space area, along with funding the great neighborhood events that take place throughout the year. Surrey Ridge is indeed a dog friendly community. Our pets are truly “lucky dogs” to be living with us in such a great place. Most neighbors are very cooperative when it comes to our furry friends and their canine behaviors. Lately there have been several reports of dogs loose in the neighborhood without identification tags. Wonderful neighbors have made great efforts to locate the owners, and in most cases the stories have happy endings. This is a friendly reminder to please do your best to keep dogs from wandering, and if they happen to get out- like they sometimes do, it would be very helpful to have identification tags with contact information. This will make it easier for our neighbors to help the dog get back home quickly and safely. Important note: If you encounter a stray dog that acts aggressively toward any person or your pet, do not hesitate to contact the Douglas County Sheriff and/or Douglas County Animal Control. The officers requested that anyone who sees a speeding vehicle report the license plate number and vehicle description to the Douglas County Sheriff Office. Going forward neighbors’ license plate numbers and descriptions of the car/truck that is speeding can be reported to the DCSO. Two vehicles that have been noticed speeding are a white Audi SUV and a black Ford Raptor truck. Please slow down. There are children on the roads walking and riding bikes, dogs who occasionally get out, walkers and cyclists. Many neighbors DO NOT understand why residents CONTINUE TO SPEED. One child hit or killed will be tragic and ruin many peoples lives. AND, tell your teen drivers to slow down too. Equestrian Committee Update Our trails have stayed in good shape over the summer although the recent gully washers have exposed a fair amount of small rocks on some of them. There are two projects on the horizon. The first project is the arena. This fall, we will be removing the weeds from the Surrey Ridge arena and hauling in several inches of sand. The intention isn’t to create a professional riding arena (requiring a different approach and much more sand) but rather a consistent surface that can be more easily maintained. The second project is to hire a professional to use a masticator to open up several of the Surrey Ridge trails that have become choked by scrub oak. There are areas where the official trail is no longer ridable, and the trail has ventured on to private property. In two cases, there are new houses being built and so the official trails need to be reopened. John Wittry will be engaging with the homeowners on either side of the trail before any work begins. If you see any trails that you think need attention, please don’t hesitate to reach out to John, e-mail address is john.wittry@alt2consulting and his phone number is (720) 486-5345.

We are well on our way into the FY17–18 fiscal year. Thank you to everyone who has submitted your HOA dues, especially to those of you who chose to contribute more than the recommended amount.

This fiscal year so far, we have received 15 checks for a total of $1,150.00! That is a good start, but were 25% thru the year, but only have 18% of our bud-geted $6,250 income.

This HOA is voluntary. But through these HOA dues, we are able to maintain the glorious equestrian trails throughout the community. In addition, your dues from last year allowed us to hold some GREAT neighborhood events:

Summer Picnic / Carshow Halloween Party Christmas Party w/ Santa Easter Egg Hunt Spring Picnic And with this year’s budget, we are holding a CLOSE-OUT-THE-SUMMER party September 30, including a ceremony to change the flag at the park.

Thanks again to everyone that makes these things possible! Our accounts continue to be positive:

We have $6,062.04 in our savings acct (as of 08/24/2017) And $8,071.04 our checking acct (as of 08/24/2017)

Dues can be mailed to:

Many concerned Surrey Ridge residents have contacted the Board regarding the dying pine trees in our neighborhood — professionals have confirmed that they are being infested by IPS Beetles as well as Turpentine Beetles. These beetles are often referred to as pine beetles and have done tremendous damage to Colorado’s forests.

The Board has no authority to enforce removal of these trees, but we thought it would be helpful to let everyone know what is happening to our trees, and en-courage us all to be good neighbors by removing these infected trees as soon as possible so as to save our remaining trees. Some residents have already removed infested trees from their properities. Professionals have recommended that these trees be taken down quickly, the stumps ground up, and all the wood and debris be removed. It is advised to have the remainder of your trees sprayed to prevent the infestation from sweep-ing through our neighborhood. They also explained that when you see signs of “stress” in the trees, it is too late — the trees are already infected.

More information can be found on the website: www.surreyridge.co. There is a list of tree companies that some residents have found to be reputable. There are links posted to Colorado Forest Management.

If anyone has need for assistance (financial or labor) please let one of the Board members know and we will see if we can find some neighborhood assistance.

PINE BEETLES are in Surrey RidgeSpeeding A reminder that the speed limit in the neighborhood is 25 miles per hour. Many kids are riding bikes, walking the roads and waiting for the bus. Please slow down.

The American flag in the Surrey RIdge park is aged and needs to be replaced. A new flag has been obtained and a Boy Scout troop will conduct a Flag Retirement Ceremony on September 30 at 3 p.m. in the park. Plans are in the works for an End-of-Summer Party after the ceremony. Watch Nextdoor Surrey Ridge or surreyridge.com for more details.

SEPTEMBER 30 There will also be a Flag Retirement ceremony at 3 p.m.

National Night OutSurrey Ridge residents recently had a wonderful time at National Night Out! National Night Out is an an-nual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. Several departments within the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department visited Surrey Ridge Park to mingle and play yard games with our residents. Root beer floats were enjoyed by all!

Thanks for participating!
