TODAY’S SESSIONS
Managing Challenging Behaviors10–11am, LibraryIn this session, you will learn why challenging behaviors occur and the ABCs (antecedent, behavior and consequences) of behavior, as well as “preventative” and “consequence” strategies for addressing the behavior. Using interactive videos, you’ll practice recognizing some of the topics discussed and get practical advice you can use immediately.
Speaker: Jacqueline Molina is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at Lumiere Children’s Therapy and has been working with children of all ages who have various developmental disabilities for almost ten years. She has been working in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for five years and specializes in developing skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs for children ages 2–8.
Note: This session will be recorded for the speaker’s use.
Navigating Insurance10–11am, Room 504Join Alexandra Eidenberg from The Insurance People as she reviews the best insurance policies for kids, kids with developmental differences and families. Learn how to understand out-of-pocket costs, pick plans that offer you the best network, and ways to leverage your network and benefits. There will be plenty of time for questions.
Speaker: Alexandra has been a Life & Health licensed agent for 14 years and specializes in individual health insurance and employee benefits. She has a passion and background in working with families that have kids with developmental differences and collaborates with local therapeutic centers.
Guided Relaxation for Caregivers12–12:30pm, Room 504As parents and caregivers, we all experience compassion fatigue. In this mini-session, you’ll learn practical tips to increase your capacity to take care of your loved ones while taking care of yourself. At the end of the session, you’ll experience a 7–10-minute guided relaxation exercise.
Speaker: Heather Leneau Bragg, M.A., served as a teacher and learning specialist for 19 years. Her work has been featured on CBS, WGN, The Huffington Post, ChicagonistaLIVE! and Telemundo. In 2016, Heather transitioned from education to real estate (teaching during the day while parenting her two boys—both of whom have ADHD diagnoses—prompted her to make a career change in order to be a more patient parent with a more well-rounded life), but her passion still resides in education and helping children with learning and attention issues and their families.
IEP 1011–2pm, Room 504Learn how to get an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in a public or private school and how to ensure it’s appropriate for your child. Get tips on what to say during an IEP meeting and what to look for within an IEP—and what to do when you disagree with your child’s plan. We will go over multiple sections of the IEP to provide you with the tools necessary to advocate for your child’s needs.
Speaker: Mo Buti offers affordable advice and advocacy to families of those with autism and all other disabilities and special needs. Providing guidance and support to navigate school districts’ complex systems, she assists parents with every stage of the IEP process, ensuring that students receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE).

NPN’s Developmental Differences Parent Support Group
Come meet other parents who are working hard to meet the special needs of their children. It’s a night to be supported, to ask questions and share resources, and to be with other parents who get what it’s like to deal with special challenges for their kids. Parents of kids with all types of developmental differences welcome (sensory processing disorder, autism, ADD/ADHD, PDD-NOS, mixed receptive-expressive language disorder, Down syndrome, physical disabilities, medical issues, etc.). Parents/family only, please (no therapists, students, or business owners).
