Together we’re building a world that’s kinder to animals.

Thank you for requesting an RSPCA fundraising pack. In here you’ll find everything you need to help plan and promote your fundraising event, and raise as much money as possible for animals in need. We’re also doing our bit for the planet; all our fundraising materials are recyclable. Additional resources can be downloaded from our website: rspca.org.uk/fundraisingresources

What do we do?We are the UK’s oldest animal charity and we rescue animals from cruelty and danger. This work is carried out by RSPCA inspectors and officers, our frontline staff who work around the clock in England and Wales making life better for animals.

After rescuing animals, the next step is to rehabilitate them and prepare them for new homes or their return to the wild. A huge part of our work is the direct care of animals – our wildlife centres, animal hospitals, clinics and branches perform more than 200,000 treatments every year. Our animal centres and branches give around 40,000 animals a second chance of a new home and life.

At a local level we work through our branches and dedicated volunteers to give hands-on care to animals. We also work hard to improve the protection given to animals internationally by collaborating with partners in other countries.

Superstar Lorraine has been raising money for animals ever since she witnessed the RSPCA rescuing three horses trapped in freezing cold water after a devastating tidal surge. “It made me realise not only how much work goes into these rescues but how much it costs as well. My fundraising is a way for me to support the great work of the RSPCA.”

Over the years, Lorraine has organised many fundraisers, including a spinathon, auction and raffle. She has also sourced some incredible prizes along the way, including a holiday to Spain and meal for two at a Michelin Star restaurant. In Lorraine’s words: “If you don’t ask you don’t get, and people are usually very generous when it comes to supporting a charity that is close to your heart.” She also managed to recruit a DJ and singer to perform at her events for no cost, which meant that all the money raised went directly to the RSPCA.

Lorraine has also taken on some astonishing sponsored challenges, which include various hikes, swims, runs, a Tough Mudder, a skydive and her greatest challenge to date – climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Lorraine involves the whole family when it comes to supporting the RSPCA; they have even organised their own fundraisers to help contribute to Lorraine’s target, such as baking and making goods to sell at a school fair. Friends, family and colleagues have taken part in these challenges alongside her.

Lorraine received an RSPCA Honour, the Arthur Broome Bronze Award in recognition of her contribution to animal welfare and for her tremendous fundraising.

I’m a lifelong animal lover.

I’ve had rescue dogs, cats and chickens,

and I often campaign on animal

welfare issues.

and the animals we share the planet with.

WAYS TO MAKE YOUR FUNDRAISING KINDER TO ANIMALS

We receive around 5,000 phone calls a year regarding litter and sadly our wild animals are the main victims when it comes to people’s discarded rubbish. We want to do our bit for the planet, so this fundraising pack has been put together using carefully considered materials. It is completely recyclable and contains no single-use plastics. You can do your bit too by considering the following when organising your event:

Hooked on litterFishing litter led to a swan getting a hook stuck through his beak in a Swansea pond.

RSPCA Cymru officers removed the fishing line and rig – which was stopping the swan from eating or using his beak properly – then, after a quick health check released him back to the wild.

Hedgehog in a tight spot A hedgehog had to be rescued when she got her head stuck tight in a smashed glass bottle.

RSPCA Inspector David Grant managed to safely free her and took her to RSPCA Mallydams Wood Wildlife Centre in Hastings. Thankfully, after two days’ recovery, the hedgehog was released uninjured back into the wild.

DO YOU NEED TO SEND OUT PAPER INVITES? It’s much kinder to the planet to simply send out invites via email, social media and text.

DON’T FORGET to give your guests information on how to get to your event, let them know about public transport links and encourage them to walk, cycle or car share where possible.

IF HOSTING A COFFEE MORNING, use mugs or tea cups instead of single-use options. You don’t need to buy new crockery, have a look around your local RSPCA charity shop to see what you can find!

MAKE YOUR OWN DECORATIONS, such as pom poms made from tissue paper or paper chains from old newspapers/greetings cards.

MAKE YOUR OWN BUNTING from old clothes or download our RSPCA paper bunting from: rspca.org.uk/fundraisingresources

BUBBLES are a great replacement for balloons. We don’t provide balloons in our fundraising pack because animals can get tangled up in them, causing injury or even choke on them.

COLLECT ALL YOUR RUBBISH at the end of your fundraising event and recycle as much as you can.
