On the last day of July, 64 people in Woodland had nowhere else to go. Fourth & Hope provided 17 children, 23 women, and 24 men with dinner, a place to sleep, and breakfast.

Your amazing support makes sure people in need have somewhere to go when there is nowhere else. We still need your help. Until no one is homeless, we need YOU.

Do you know what it’s like to worry where your kids will sleep at night?

Where their next meal will come from?

Where they will live and grow and play?

“Larry is always so thoughtful and concerned for our clients’ well being and looks for available donations that can be used to assist homeless populations get back on their feet. He is a pleasure to work with!”

– Randy Tryon, Fourth & Hope deputy director

Larry Martinez has been the donations manager at Costco for just over 8 years and is proud of his long involvement with Fourth & Hope. He says he receives “an incredible amount of requests” each year and works to prioritize them based on groups with the biggest needs. Ever modest, he credits his former warehouse manager Carl Golston for the generosity Costco has extended to Fourth & Hope. A retired police officer, former River Cats ticket operations manager, and current Clark Field director, Larry has facilitated donations of furniture, housewares, clothing, toiletries and food from Costco. We are so grateful to know and work with Larry and Costco!

Earlier this year Yolo County’s Health and Human Services Agency received funding from Partnership HealthPlan California (PHC) to improve the health and well-being of medically vulnerable people experiencing homelessness.

Fourth & Hope is a partner on the project, known as Bridge to Health & Housing,

The project’s 3 goals are:

1. Identify the most medically vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in Yolo County.

2. Diverting people with medical issues and experiencing homelessness from local emergency rooms and into appropriate primary care settings.

3. Improving the overall well-being of medically vulnerable people experiencing homelessness by targeting 4 determinants of health: housing stability, physical health, behavioral health, and self-sufficiency.

With this 2-year grant funding, Fourth & Hope has hired 3 outreach workers and a housing navigator to identify, assess, and triage homeless, medically vulnerable people throughout Yolo County.

The outreach staff will provide case management and 24-hour on-call response. Yolo Community Care Continuum (YCCC) will operate the housing component of the project. Sutter Davis and Woodland Memorial Hospitals are partners and will contact on-call project staff when an individual in the target population is accessing emergency room services.

CommuniCare Health Centers, Elica Health Centers, Northern Valley Indian Health, Winters Healthcare Medical Clinics, and Woodland Clinic will act as the primary care providers for clients of the project.

A BRIDGE TO HEALTH & HOUSING

…and Hope

City of Woodland Funds Homeless Outreach

The City of Woodland has provided funding for a part-time Fourth & Hope outreach worker, Will Manson, to work with people in Woodland experiencing homelessness. Will is working to connect people with available needed housing and social service resources.

Meet Richard Paul. Three years ago he was dealing with eviction and sleeping in his car – worried each day his car might be towed and he would have nowhere else to sleep.

He found his way to the Fourth & Hope shelter where he stayed for three months. During that time he looked for work, worked at the Fourth & Hope thrift shop, and connected with the Yolo Community Care Continuum (YCCC) to secure permanent housing.

Now, with secure and stable housing, Richard gives back to Fourth & Hope as a volunteer every Thursday afternoon, helping clients with afternoon services.

His generosity helps keep the doors open at Fourth & Hope for those in need of help and hope.

“I would not have a home if it wasn’t for Fourth & Hope.” – Richard Paul

Dear Friends,

I hope to see you at our big event in October. Thanks to the kind generosity of Mike and Debbie Cracchiolo we will be holding Empty Bowls at the Woodland Hotel.

Being in downtown Woodland, where much of the work of Fourth & Hope happens makes Empty Bowls extra special this year. The board is working to make this year’s event a great one! And we need you!

Downtown restaurants will be donating soups once again, local artists and art students are making bowls, and we are assembling some fine and fun auction items.

Your support of Fourth & Hope keeps us going year after year. Please save October 20th for soup with us!

- Robert Partlow, Fourth & Hope Board President

Tickets $25
