Principal’s Message

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh.

Dear parents and students,

I would like to start by saying thank you to all of our parents, staff and students for your continued understanding and cooperation during this uncertain time.

As the College is continually guided by the experts from the DET and DHHS it is promising to see the reduced number of Covid-19 cases in Victoria. We eagerly await advice from the experts on when we will be able to open the school again for all of our teachers and students. The situation will be reviewed on a week by week basis and we will continue to keep our parents informed. As parents are aware, the College has been delivering two educational programs concurrently: Remote online learning and on-site school learning. The same content, learning and assessment tasks are being taught whether the child is present at school or works from home. It is essential to note that on-site school learning is for supervision only (and not run by the children’s usual teachers).

Students learning on site will follow the teaching and learning programs provided online by their usual classroom teachers. The Distance E-Learning policy has been activated for both Primary and Secondary. I am pleased to witness the effective implementation of these policies.

In Secondary the policy has been implemented smoothly with a remarkably high percentage of student attendance. In Primary the college appreciates parents’ efforts at home to assist their children with classwork provided and understand that it may be too much for some.

We ask parents to do the best they can. If you can only complete one task a day, then only complete that task. For parents who need help with the classwork, your children’s teachers are available through ClassDojo and other communication platforms to answer your concerns. The College Administration Office is open if you have any other queries.

On a lighter note the Holy Month of Ramadan is approaching us. Even though, there are many changes and challenges this year, such as being unable to attend daily Tarawih prayers at your local Masjid or possibly even Eid prayers, we need to always strive to maintain and strengthen our faith in Allah (SWT). We ask parents to encourage the atmosphere of this blessed month at home.

I wish you all a happy and blessed Ramadan and may this great month bring you peace and many blessings from the almighty, Allah (SWT).

Kind regards,

Dr Abdul M. KamareddineCollege Principal

Year 4: SleepoverOn Friday 6 March at 6pm all of the year 4 students came to school for a sleepover to learn how to be more independent and prepare ourselves

for the grade 5 camp.

Firstly, everyone came to school and lined up in front of gate 3 to get our names marked off the attendance list. We went upstairs to our rooms and we had to choose

our spots and set up our sleeping bag on the floor. I was so excited to see what would happen next. We all had to line up in the hall where the grade 5 & 6 students pray

after lunch. The teachers were explaining to us what we had to do. All the year 4s were then instructed to go downstairs into the gym and have a piece of fruit. We then had to sort ourselves into our house colour groups. After that, the teachers explained that we were going to play soccer. The 4B & 4C girls in green & yellow were playing in the assembly area, it was so fun! I scored 2 goals! It was very unexpected. Green won and

then we played against the red team but unfortunately, we lost. Then we had to go upstairs to have dinner. We had pizza and for dessert we had doughnuts! It was so

delicious and I enjoyed it so much!

Following that we went downstairs to make wudu to pray Maghrib and Isha. All the girls got their hijabs and went downstairs where all the mats were ready for us

to pray Maghrib and then Isha but only after Ms Asma’s presentation. After Isha prayer, we all were instructed to get ready for bed so we all got our toothbrushes, towels and

clothes to change into and went to the bathrooms in turns. I was so keen to see the movie, I got ready very quickly. We watched Wreck it Ralph 2. Once we watched half of

the movie we had to go to sleep and I probably fell asleep around 11pm.

On Saturday morning, everyone woke up for Fajr at 6:30am. Everyone went down to do wudu and the girls had their hijab ready to pray. After prayers we all freshened

up to have breakfast. Breakfast was ready in the briefing room so we all ate together. There were choices of cereal from Fruit Loops, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and Nutri-

Grain. I chose Fruit Loops and then came back for a croissant and juice. We then went downstairs to the gym to have an egg and spoon race and a three-legged race where you tie your leg to a partner and try and beat another team in a running race, it was

so much fun. After that we got our belongings together and lined up in front of gate 3 with our classmates. Our parents came to pick us up and take us back home safely. The sleepover was really so much fun, my advice to everyone is not to miss out on

such a beautiful experience.

Ways of teaching Surat Al-RahmanWe are happy to announce that the Quran Before School program was held in Term 1 with Surat Al-Rahman. Alhamdulillah we started the program with 60 students from Year 1 – Year 5.

The students memorised verses 1-10 of Surat Al-Rahman with Tajweed and correct pronunciation. The focus was on the meaning and understanding of the verses. To reach their goal the students wrote the words in the verses, they played a game about space and watched videos related to the verses:

• The meaning of Al-Rahaman Al-Raheem

• The Story of Creation

• Space

• Songs about Bismillah

The students watched an animation which recites and explains the verses. The students completed many worksheets to find the words in the surah and increase their knowledge of Quran reading skills. We gifted each student a small toy for their hard work and we sincerely hope they enjoyed these first few weeks in the program.

Foundation: Fairytale Fiasco IncursionOn Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 March the Foundation students participated in an incursion at school called

“Fairytale Fiasco.” Students learned about the imaginative and creative world of fairytales in this fun drama workshop. During the workshop students entered into Fairytale Land where things were not what they seemed! A terrible spell was cast on Fairytale Land where mice roared and dragon’s fled. During this incursion students

recreated fairytale stories which they had learned throughout Term 1 through dance and performance.

Students wore various fairytale costumes and acted out different movements.
