Book Title : RIO: My Story

Author : Rio Ferdinand

Publisher : Headline Number of page: 361

Genre : Biography

I am a fan of football although not too maniac but I like watch football with my father or my friend, Wayan. Sometimes when we watch football competition, there are some players that we like. One of them is Rio Ferdinand. So when I got duty to review biography, I thought why not I review about his biography. So here I am, reviewing the biography about him.

This book’s plot is chronologically from his childhood, when still in Peckham, a bit of a reputation for crime and drugs town, he enjoyed his childhood. He made friends with the older boys. He still was looking for what his talent was. And when he watched World Cup, he saw Maradonna and he tried football. Hence he played football at backyard and school team. He tried to enter soccer club and reached his dream as soccer player. Then his life started to change after he became West Ham United trainee. Then told his journey as professional soccer player. He experienced friendship, betrayal, hatred and support from fans, scandals, and love life.

I have personal thought that sometimes what we think as friend but they could hurt us the most, like what he got from the supporter of Manchester United. When he was refusing to re-sign at Manchester United, the fans threat him.

The part that I like is when his childhood, I never knew that if he ever took ballet class. It’s so hilarious when I read it and imagined a Rio Ferdinand danced ballet. The part that I don’t like is when after England win a match, he and his friend went party and he drank there, and he called as a bratty alcoholic bastard.

The large issue is how he tried and hardwork to reach his dream as a soccer player and he never gave up when he faced some obstacles. What I learnt from him is never listened what people say about you, but just prove what you are.

I know many people like him aside his temper that because of his life in childhood in a rather ‘dangerous’ town, but they like him by his effort and skill in football. And I will recommend this book to the said people.

The scale that I give is 2, because he told his life just the way he is. And it makes the reader interested with his story. He told just like he told to his friends.
