Page 2: TEXAS ARE WE COMMUNITY BANKING

Dear Texas Community Banker,

For quite a while, we have all looked at distant dates on the calendar with hope of being able to gather once again in celebration of our great industry. We’ve made do with Zoom and virtual connections for far too long. But the return of the greatest celebration in Texas community banking is within sight.

This year’s theme boldly proclaims, “We are Texas Community Banking.”

Since we were last together in September of 2019, each of us had the chance to prove what community bankers are made of. It is time to celebrate the substantial role that community banks played in preserving the economies of our hometowns, state and nation.

I hope that you will be a part of that celebration by making plans to join me and the rest of the IBAT family for the association’s 47th Annual Convention at the beautiful Omni Barton Creek Resort in Austin this September.

Whether you have been a stalwart attendee of conventions-past or are a first-time attendee, I believe you will find the event to be well worth your time. It is a perfect balance of education, inspiration, networking and fun.

I can’t wait to see you in Austin in September.

Sincerely,

Brad Tidwell Chairman, Independent Bankers Association of Texas

Jenny Radcliffe — aka “The People Hacker” — is a force to be reckoned with. Jenny is a world-renowned social engineer, hired to bypass security systems through a no-tech mixture of psychology, con-artistry, cunning and guile. She can diffuse a crisis situation, talk her way into a secure building and spot a psychopath at a hundred paces. She has been called a mind reader and a “human lie detector” and likened to a Jedi Knight. In reality, she is an expert in social engineering (the human element of security), negotiation, persuasion and influence and non-verbal communication and deception—using her skills to help clients ranging from global corporations and law enforcement organizations to poker players, politicians and the security industry.

Amanda Brinkman is the Chief Brand Officer of Deluxe and is creator, producer and host of their hit series “Small Business Revolution,” which streams on Hulu and Prime Video and was named among Inc. Magazine’s top shows for entrepreneurs. In this inspirational reality show, Amanda and the team at Deluxe showcase their passion for entrepreneurs by spearheading efforts to revitalize entire communities through small business makeovers. Amanda demonstrates how both companies and individuals can make a meaningful and positive difference in people’s lives, while fostering their own success in the process. She believes that companies must not only identify their brand purpose, but put that purpose into action.

SATURDAY NIGHT OPENING PARTY

WILLIAM CLARK GREEN

Between two acclaimed and successful albums, 2012’s Rose Queen and 2015’s Ringling Road, and what now clocks in at a near-decade’s worth of dogged road work, William Clark Green has established himself as one of the most important voices of his genre - a voice that now pipes up again on his anticipated new album, Hebert Island.

Texas is a big place, complete with fully distinct sub-territories - we reserve the right to bust into several states, should that become strategically expedient - and our traveling musical artists tend to become experts on the rich mosaic that makes up Texas’ cultural geography. Will has found himself onstage in a growing portion of her 254 counties and has called several his home. Childhood northeast in Tyler, high school years in College Station, college years at Texas Tech in Lubbock, early music career years in the north-central hamlet of Eastland, and lately his most urban digs so far, in Fort Worth - but deep down, Will’s Cajun roots call to him incessantly, and thus southeast Texas

is never far from his mind. The new album is named for Will’s retreat at Hebert Island (say “AY-Bear”, though you’ll occasionally hear “HEE-Bert”) near Beaumont and refers to the hilltop upon which his camp house sits.

Hebert Island is a stellar new batch of songs from a guy who has gone to great lengths to keep his energy focused, through all distraction, on quality songcraft. “My favorite songwriter is Guy Clark - the songwriter’s songwriter. It’s what I’ve always cared about the most...the craft of songs is really where it’s at for me. I think good songs are undeniable.”

Will’s desired contribution to the world is songs that change lives for the better, and he realizes that he’s conduit as much as creator for that change. “Our path is guided by something that’s greater than me, I believe that. We can be very proud of what we’ve accomplished; we’ve done it the right way...I feel very proud of what we’ve done, and I’m thankful every day for where we’re at.”

TOM DOUGLAS is the son of a steel salesman, who was also a part-time musician. He learned to play piano as a youngster in Atlanta but put music aside when he attended Oglethorpe University. In 1993, at a songwriting seminar in Austin, Douglas played “Little Rock” for producer Paul Worley. The following year, the song was a

Country hit for Collin Raye and nominated for CMA Song of the Year.

His songwriting credits include “I Run To You” by Lady Antebellum which earned the 2009 CMA Single of the Year. “The House That Built Me” by Miranda Lambert earned 2010 NSAI Song of the Year, the 2010 CMA Song of the Year and the 2011 ACM Song and Single of the Year. Other Tom Douglas songs include “Love’s The Only House” by Martina McBride, “Hello World” by Lady Antebellum, and the Tim McGraw hits “Grown Men Don’t Cry,” “My Little Girl,” “Let It Go,” “Southern Voice” and “Meanwhile Back At Mama’s.”

A Texas native, JIM BEAVERS has been a valued member of the Nashville songwriter community for many years. He moved to Nashville to pursue a career on the business side of music and spent time as Director of Marketing for both Capitol Records and Virgin Records as well as being a professor at Middle Tennessee State

University. His songwriting credits include Luke Bryan’s “Drink A Beer,” Dierks Bentley’s “5-1-5-0” and “Am I the Only One,” Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup” and countless other singles by artists including Faith Hill, Easton Corbin, Tim McGraw, Josh Turner, Billy Currington, and Gary Allan.

Beavers’ compositions have earned him multiple NSAI “Ten Songs I Wish I’d Written” Awards and BMI Awards.

Born in Amarillo, Texas, JON NITE is a CMA and ACM award winning singer/songwriter who has written over a dozen top ten country hits. Teaming with Sony ATV Music Publishing in Nashville, Jon has found a home with hits like “What Ever She’s Got” by David Nail, “Smoke” by A Thousand Horses, “We

Were Us” vocal event of the year with Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert, “Beachin” by Jake Owen, “Strip It Down” by Luke Bryan, “Break On Me” by Keith Urban, “Noise” by Kenny Chesney, “Think A Little Less” by Michael Ray, “If I Told You” by Darius Rucker and “I’d be Jealous Too” by Dustin Lynch. Jon is a master of poetically sentimental lyrics, a talent illustrated by his song “Boy” recorded by Lee Brice, written for his son and his co-writer Nicolle Galyon’s baby boy days before she gave birth to him. Jon has received two CMA Triple Play awards for writing three #1 songs in a year.

Recently, Jon co-wrote Cole Swindell’s # 1 single, “Break Up in the End,” earning a Grammy nomination for 2019 Best Country Song of the Year. He also earned an album cut on Dan + Shay’s self-titled album with his work on the song “Stupid Love” and Michael Ray’s Amos with “Drink One For Me.” Jon also worked closely on Dierks Bentley’s album The Mountain, co-writing “Living,” “Nothing On But The Stars,” “Son of the Son” and “Travelin’ Light.” Jon also co-wrote Maddie & Tae’s well-received single “Friends Don’t.” He currently lives south of Nashville with his wife and their two beautiful children.
