tête-à-tête takes you on a cultural journey with its story-telling designs in theatre style, reflecting a “Romantic Fusion” design culture.

Bangkok-based designers Kate & KK Chin bring together romantic ideas, techniques

and elements from different eras and origins which come together beautifully as soul mates in tête-à-tête’s unique design culture.

This is possible because the creators of tête-à-tête represent a unique blend of true

cultural fusion and expertise, creating designs at our Bangkok design studio and, with the distinctive artistic touch of Thai artisans, producing handcrafted works of art.

Kate is in brand management by trade and a graphic designer by passion, having worked on innovations in leading multi-national consumer product companies until

meeting her then future husband, KK. A gemologist and designer by profession, KK has extensive experience from design and manufacturing to dealings of diamonds and rare precious gems.

Kate & KK’s joint passion came to life under the brand tête-à-tête, debuted for the first

time at Baselworld 2006. It is a fusion of romance and creativity… of theatre and

culture…with a vision of ‘let’s romance the world’…

The idea of tête-à-tête :

tête-à-tête is built around who we are and our families’ heritage. We come from a mix of cultures… Kate is half Thai and half British while KK is from a Chinese-Malaysian background. That’s why we bring with us a fresh mix of ‘cultural fusion’, combining with the fact that we are fools for romance… tête-à-tête, in essence, became the ‘Romantic Fusion’ brand.

What is romance in your book?

It’s anything that has meaning and ambience. Anything from an intimate conversation about things that matter… a tête-à-tête with someone you love… working in candle light… a trip in search of your soul… even a simple cup of tea in

warm morning rays… Anything can be romantic… It’s all up to you.

Design Inspirations : Most of our designs are the result of our daily dialogues and conversations. For example, the Dim Sum collection

happened during a dim sum lunch when we were discussing the meaning of the word ‘dim sum’. In Chinese, it actually means ‘touch the heart’ … the story goes that in the olden days, wives would prepare dim sums, the little snack to

enjoy together with tea, waiting for the husbands’ return at the end of the day… a token of love and affection. With that, we set out with our very own Dim Sum collection.

A brand to look up to :

We look at other brands in order to learn and also avoid what has already been done. For us, we have our very own vision which is “LET’S ROMANCE THE WORLD”. We have our do-good policies which help guide us to simply be a nice brand… We make it a point not to use synthetics, live materials such as corals, we recycle whenever we can and we

are a member of the stopblooddiamonds.org.

who buys tête-à-tête? Romantic-buffs. There is really no specific age profile but they are mostly women with a sense of fun and flair for style.

They appreciate the thought behind as well as the designs themselves.

What do you enjoy most about tête-à-tête?

We love the moment when someone finds that perfect piece for them. It’s like finding a soul mate in each of our designs. It’s also a great feeling to be spreading different cultures and a bit of romance into people’s lives in different

corners of the world. The name tête-à-tête captures that spirit of bringing people closer together in an intimate and personal way. It makes us see that we have more things in common than we like to give ourselves credit for. Because,

at the end of the day, love is really what we all live for.

2.! We do not use LIVE materials such as corals, tortoise shells etc. in any of our jewellery.

3.! We recycle, whenever and wherever we can. (paper, gold, jewellery, furniture … you name it)

4.! We pledge to STOP BLOOD DIAMOND by demanding and requesting for clean diamonds from our diamond suppliers. If we keep at it, we will get it one day soon. *we are a member of STOP BLOOD DIAMOND*

5.! We minimize carbon emission by using local materials and local suppliers within our region whenever possible.
