Dr Tansy JessopTESTA Project Leader
University of Winchester13/14 March, Pune, India
The Structure of the KEP
Indian partners discuss TESTA and visit UK
institutions: September 2013
UK researchers collect data in India: October
2013
UK team discuss and share
comparative data: January 2014
Key issues
• Assessment and feedback• Whole degree programmes• An evidence-informed approach• Student researchers, student ‘voice’ data• Triangulating methodologies• Comparative data• Curriculum and pedagogy• Trust, good relationships, friendship and
openness.
What we have learned
• TESTA as a methodology works in a different context• Student voice data is powerful, but needs to be coupled
with staff understandings• ‘Real-world’ assessment linked to research and industry
link ups is strong in the two Indian universities• Student perceptions of their effort levels are high in the
two Indian universities• There is much more class contact time; much less time for
independent study • There are more examinations.• The context(s) and institutional arrangements are
different
Key outcomes
• Three TESTA case studies• Discussions and presentations by team members
from India and UK about context, assessment and pedagogy• Comparative data for joint publications• Scope and plans for ‘Now what?’ TESTA workshops• Scope for academic and student exchanges• Scope for ongoing collaboration around teaching
and research• Good personal, professional and institutional
relationships
