Test Shots

In my first shot, I decided to pose myself on a chair holding a guitar as part of my props. I chose to take this picture in a natural lighting as I find it more detailed than any other lighting that I wanted it to look like I am a charismatic singer but also to gain attention towards the reader’s eye. The picture looks very nice but I think it’s much more suitable to put it on my double page spread as I find it too plain to add it as my main image for the front cover.

This picture is very interesting as I chose to pose in a rebellious manner; it looks like I am actually about to smash my guitar in order to help reinforce the pop/rock genre that I will be focusing on. In my opinion, I think that the image focuses too much on the background as it is far away to the model but by using this for the contents page, I am able to make really good effects with this picture.

This was one of the best pictures that I had taken. This time, I decided to do a close-up of myself looking at my direction in a shoulder position. The picture may look fantastic to use for my front cover but I feel that it won’t look impressive when I try to crop out the text on the left as it will make me look like I am leaning towards the left side of my front cover and that it will make my face unrecognizable once I had added in the cover lines.

In my second attempt in the same position from Photo 3, I tried to reveal my face in a ¾ view angle and I looked downwards to make it look like I am staring at someone as most artists in the cover look in the other direction as they chose to avoid eye contact with the reader. I think that this looks really perfect because it really brings out the seriousness and effectiveness of this picture as well as it looking straight.

For this photo, I positioned myself in a standing position with my guitar as a prop to place my right knee in order to help balance myself in a comfortable pose. The shot I chose for this was Wide Shot (WS) so that I can show my full body. I think that this would be good in black and white as it makes it look vintage and unique.
