Advanced formats PHSXOFAdds additional formats 4:2:2 YUV, 4:4:4 RGB and 4:4:4 YUV at 10/12 bit plus 3G level A and B. 2K digital cinema formats included as defined in the SMPTE ST 2048-2:2011 standard 2048 x 1080 and SMPTE 428-9.

Moving zone plate PHSXOZThe option includes a control interface to enable frequency sweep adjustments. This allows for direction and motion to be applied. Temporal control is particularly useful for testing up/down convertors/monitors and applications which compress signals. The interface allows for custom settings to be saved down to memories and recalled at any time.

SDI Analysis and Ancillary data analyzer PHSXOSDA combination of two instruments, this option provides a detailed view of the data words contained within the SDI stream and an ancillary data packet analyzer. This allows the analysis of complex faults and is particularly useful in determining compatibility issues between equipment and when debugging new product development in an R&D environment. The ancillary packet analyzer also includes a DID and SDID search editor, freeze, and freeze on trigger function.

VANC analyzer grid PHSXOVNCA simple grid layout provides a quick visual check for available vanc/anc ancillary data. The packet type is displayed as present, absent or red if in fault. Simple icons next to the packet indicate the fault. Each ancillary packet available from the grid view can be set to enable logging and then presented together with other information in the events window of the logging menu. User defined selections can be entered with the appropriate DID or SDID code. Any ancillary packet code can be saved down for future recall. Please note this option does not fully decode the ancillary data, but indicates the data is present.

Enhanced remote control PHSXORUsing this option allows complex applications to be created on a PC to perform test and measurement functions such as automated testing of routers and other broadcast equipment. PHABRIX instruments act as a server and listen on a port waiting for incoming requests from clients such as a PC. All visual controls on the product have an associated command. The control structure can be selected as Passive or Active. The option also provides a programming guide with command information and examples on a CD. A Windows™ application for testing the interface is also available.

Page 9: test and measurement instruments for broadcast

Dolby metadata Generator and Analyzer PHSXO-DAGThis combination option of 5 screens provides both Dolby generation and Dolby analysis toolsets. All Dolby parameters can be set up and logged. With a selection of Dolby E, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus streams to choose from, engineers can quickly enter and adjust parameters to check broadcast infrastructure. This allows the display of Dolby meta data present in a selected audio stream and determines whether the Dolby E packet is timed correctly on the SDI video stream. The Dolby E Analyser allows the display of Dolby metadata present in a selected audio stream and determines whether the Dolby E packet is timed correctly on the SDI video stream. In use the new start menu window displays both the V Bit information and PCM values along with a snapshot of the Dolby metadata. The Dolby metadata screen carries primary information including signal source, Dolby E ‘guard band’ timing, CRC errors, program channel and metadata detail. Peak audio levels included in the Dolby E metadata packet are displayed allowing the user to select the appropriate set of meters to display Dolby levels which will follow the selected Dolby source. Logging for Dolby errors, Timing, Common metadata and Program metadata can be also be controlled. Dolby metadata is displayed with audio levels however the audio is not decoded.

Command scripts with print report PHSXOSThis extremely useful option allows an engineer to create a stack of commands for repeat testing of systems using the toolsets within the Sx series. By ordering the commands, simple or complex tests can be configured and saved for recall by a user defined operator name. Command scripts can be created on the interface within the Sx series or created offline on a PC. When ‘run’ reports are generated which auto fill an on-board html file which can then be downloaded via the remote control facility and printed as a hard paper copy. The report also collects screen dumps of the instruments to accompany the report if required.

Additionally users can add their own logo to personalise the reports.

The savings in time and the ability to send a junior engineer to run a command script in a facility to check equipment and return with a report is invaluable.

SxE only options

Advanced physical layer analysis PHSXOEAThe advanced analysis option for the PHABRIX SxE adds an additional jitter screen plus enhancements to the eye display and is focussed toward broadcast manufacturers who have a need for high end analysis tools.

Standard SxE Physical layer toolset compared to the advanced physical layer option. The standard PHABRIX SxE comes complete with a very sophisticated eye and jitter toolset as standard. This includes automated measurements for rise time, fall time, delta, overshoot, undershoot and cable length. The instrument also allows eye display up to a maximum of 10 eyes. Alignment and timing thermometers can be selected individually.

The advanced eye and jitter option described below adds additional filtering features which many broadcast manufacturers and advanced users would find useful.

The eye can be coloured to show ‘hot spots’ and the cable type can be selected.

The separate jitter analysis screen incorporated into the advanced option enables the engineer to analyse the nature of jitter present using a graph of jitter versus time. The decade filters are present and the time base can be adjusted from 1 line through to 1 frame. By analysing jitter in this detailed way an engineer can determine if a signal is in or out of specification and also get a feel for where any problems lie. A spiky waveform could indicate power supply noise and these visual clues aid the diagnosis. Vertical gain and horizontal magnify controls are provided to help further identify problems.

Audio break out cable PHSXC-1

A break-out cable is available to provide AES input and output as well as calibrated balanced analogue audio input and output to broadcast levels. It is connected to the TAG via the D -way connector. With both BNC and XLR connectors, this cable is a very useful addition to the TAG instrument.

PHABRIX instruments support a range of SFPs (small form factor plugable) to allow them to be connected directly into fibre optic video installations that use LC connectors.

Non-MSA SFPs have been developed for optimum performance with SDI video rather than the IT industry MSA SFPs and it is only Non-MSA SFP’s which we support.

SFP’s using 1310nm transmission wavelength is the recommended choice for most installations as it is independent of multi-mode and single-mode cable.

The supported SFP range also includes a mini BNC SDI video transceiver for use with the PHABRIX TAG hand-held instrument to allow closed loop testing in SDI environments. Optical to SDI and back is a powerful feature of the TAG.

A simple two screw removeable panel gives access should there be a need to replace the SFP cage.

TAG only options

sfp : optical/copper

Datasheets are available on the PHABRIX website that provide full details of the SFP modules available for use with PHABRIX instruments. BNC cable adaptors for coaxial SFP’s are provided if purchased from PHABRIX.

3G-SDI including advanced formats PHSXT-3GThis TAG-only option supports the new broadcast standards for 3G Level and Level B signal transfer and provides advanced formats including 4:2:2 YUV, 4:4:4 RGB and 4:4:4 YUV at 10/12 bit. For broadcast manufacturers this option allows rigorous testing of many more formats beyond the standard signals used in traditional broadcasting.Among the support for 3G level B is the ability to analyse signals such as SMPTE 425-B carrying 1 x SMPTE 372M Dual-Link payload. (Generation of these signals is activated if the generator PHSXT-GEN is present)

TAG generator option PHSXT-GENThe TAG only generator option allows the creation of video test signals for analogue composite video, SD-SDI and HD- SDI video as standard including an A/V generator. 3G-SDI, 2K SDI formats can be purchased as additional option PHSXT-3G. The Generator option also allows the generation of both analogue and digital audio test tones and can be locked to an external locking reference.

Rx 1000

Rx 500

The Rx 1000 offers PHABRIX test and measurement instrumentation in a 19” (482 mm) width 1U rasterizer format. Configured with a range of functions using its modular structure, the Rx1000 makes full use of its HDMI/SDI output with support for up to 4 modules.

The Rx 1000 can display 4 simultaneous inputs with up to 8 inputs connected including optical through SFP support on each module.

As with all of the instruments provided in the Rx range, the more modules inserted into the chassis, the more cost effective this solution becomes for both audio and video test and measurement.

For such a small profile the 1U half rack Rx 500 has plenty of power. Boasting the same toolset throughout the range, the Rx 500 is a perfect solution where space is minimal.

This small power house can be fitted with physical layer test and measurement modules providing 2 simultaneous SDI channels and up to 4 individual inputs with optical support.

An internal whisper quiet fan and clever extruded airflow profiles make this instrument cool in so many ways.

Two Rx 500’s can be mounted side by side. There is a range of kits available for desktop, tray and half rack. Details on the back of the brochure.

4 channel loudness PHRXO-4LOUThe 4 Channel Loudness option allows up to 4 channels of loudness metering and monitoring to be performed by the Rx unit (1 loudness channel per analyser module). The tools provided in the Loudness window for each channel allow the loudness of the selected stereo audio pair or 5.1 surround audio group to be measured and logged.Loudness can be measured in accordance with ITU or EBU Recommendation 128 which define the measurement in terms of Loudness Units (UI) Loudness Units Full Scale (LUFS) and Loudness K weighted scale (LKFS) over momentary, short term or integrated time periods.Loudness is logged as defined by EBU Recommendation 128, and provides Start, Pause, Continue and Reset functions. Loudness logs are created at a user-defined logging interval.Loudness logs are stored automatically each time the user-defined interval is reached. These are individual, time-stamped CSV (comma separated value) files. Log files can also be saved manually at any time.

4 channel closed caption PHRXO-4CAPThe Closed Caption option allows up to 4 channels of closed caption to be displayed. This is allocated as 1 channel per analyser module. This provides support for WTS/OP42/OP47, EIA 608 and EIA 708 closed caption / subtitle formats. The specific closed caption type to be displayed for each analyser channel can be selected.

When enabled, the closed caption is displayed over the image area of the Picture monitor. EIA 608 (or CEA 608) closed caption support is provided for SD-SDI 525i applications still used in the Canada, USA and Mexico. EIA 708 (or CEA 708) closed caption support is provided for SDI applications in the USA and Canada. WST (World System Teletext) closed caption support is provided SDI applications in the UK and Europe. OP42 and OP47 closed caption support is provided for SDI applications in Australia and other countries.

Advanced eye analysis with jitter screen PHRXO-EAThe analysis option for the Rx range adds an additional jitter screen plus enhancements to the eye display and is focussed toward broadcast manufacturers who have a need for high end analysis tools.Featuring Histograms, Filtering, Decade filters, Logging of eye measurements. Multiple eye selection also enables analysis when serialiser jitter is present. The separate jitter analysis screen incorporated into the advanced option enables the engineer to analyse the nature of jitter present using a graph of jitter versus time.

optional toolset3G + Advanced formats PHRXO-3GADVThe advanced format option adds support for 3G. The new formats include 4:2:2 YUV, 4:4:4 RGB and 4:4:4 YUV at 10/12 bit and 3G level A and B. Among the support for 3G level B on the SxA and SxE is the ability to generate and analyse signals such as SMPTE 425-B carrying 1 x 372M dual link payload. Uniquely PHABRIX Rx units create three pathological signals in all formats which will be of great interest to broadcast manufacturers. The first is as defined in SMPTE RP198 and is the split field signal with the equaliser test in the first half and the PLL test in the second half. The second and third are separate full-frame EQ test and PLL tests signals.

23

Page 25: test and measurement instruments for broadcast

The Rx series of rack mount test and measurement instruments are all equipped with a TCP/IP interface enabling any standard PC browser to control the on-board web server.

Uniquely the Rx 2000 has a front panel simulation on the browser to control the

unit. With the correct IP address selected, engineers can remote control each instrument via the HDMI representation, download frame capture, screen dumps, loudness csv files and logging data files.

SDI Analysis and Ancillary data analyzer PHRXO-SDA combination of two instruments, this option provides a detailed view of the data words contained within the SDI stream and an ancillary data packet analyzer. This allows the analysis of complex faults and is particularly useful determining compatibility issues between equipment and when debugging new product development in an R&D environment. The ancillary packet analyzer also includes a DID and SDID search editor, freeze, and freeze on trigger functionality.

Dolby metadata Generator and Analyzer PHRXO-DAGThis combination option of 5 screens provides both Dolby generation and Dolby analysis toolsets. The Dolby E Analyser allows the display of Dolby meta data present in a selected audio stream and determines whether the Dolby E packet is timed correctly on the SDI video stream. In use the new start menu window displays both the V Bit information and PCM values along with a snapshot of the Dolby metadata. The Dolby metadata screen carries primary information including signal source, Dolby E ‘guard band’ timing, CRC errors, program channel and metadata detail. Peak audio levels included in the Dolby E meta data packet are displayed allowing the user to select the appropriate set of meters to display Dolby levels which will follow the selected Dolby E source. Logging for Dolby errors, Timing, Common metadata and Program metadata can be also be controlled. Dolby meta data is displayed with audio levels however the audio is not decoded.
