The horses are here! The horses are here! Well... at least half the herd has arrived. Touchdown was
exactly 10:43am on that beautiful Wednesday morning of April 17th. The staff present were super
amped and even the horses were excited as they gently rocked their trailer back and forth when thetruck approached the barn. Maria and Silver were head over heels at the arrival of their playmates!
Pinky… well, let’s just say the verdict is still out on that relationship. But who knows; perhaps this will
be the year that Pinky and the horses become fast friends! These furry equines could not wait to get to
their main preseason job – walking the pastures and eating up the overgrown grass. Yes, we have
living lawnmowers! In all, there is Ellie Mae, Mason, Footz, Lil Joe, Pee Wee, Tigger, Rocket and
newcomer, Poco. Inside this edition of Terrapin Times, we will profile each horse to help you get
reacquainted with our furry friends.
If you have ever camped at Pisgah, then
you should be very familiar with
Kookaburra, aka Kook! Not only has she
been camp staff for the past six years,
Kook has been attending Camp Pisgah’s
horse programs since she was FIVE
YEARS OLD!!! Not to give away her age,but this will be Kook’s 18th year at
Camp Pisgah!! Amazing.
Kook attended Asbury University and
graduated with a degree in Equine
Management and Biology. Having been
raised in the North Carolina mountains,
Kook is a lover of animals and the great
outdoors. She used to own a pet python
named Penny, drove cross country for K o o k a b u r r a

two weeks visiting 19 states, and has
hiked Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak eastof the Mississippi! Seriously, that’s a 12-
mile hike, with six of the miles going UP!
Kook is also very athletic, having
participated in gymnastics for 12 years.
Sadly, Kook will be moving to Kentuckyin June to pursue her career in equine
management. (sniffle, sniffle) Her presence
will be greatly missed, and we wish her all
the success she can withstand. You can still
catch Kook at camp, if your troop camps
at Pisgah for a weekend this Spring, and/
or if you’re attending GSU, Art-o-Rama or
Pony Daze. So stop by, reminisce and bid
farewell to this diehard Pisgahnite!

The Great Eight!he Great Eight!
Ellie Mae is a Draft Cross mare that has attended
Camp Pisgah for the past six years, making this her
7th summer at camp. You can identify her by her
liver chestnut color and white star on her head.
Sprinkles, Mouse and Puff were overjoyed to see
pics of their baby Ellie Mae on Facebook! Ellie Mae
has a reputation of being the princess of the herd,
showing a little diva attitude when it comes to
resting and getting pampered. Ellie Mae is superexcited about getting her red button this summer!
She said the purple button last year clashed with
her eyes… diva! If you happen to ride Ellie Mae on a
trail ride this summer, you will find that she loves
the rear guard position. And her BFF-for life is
Avalon.
Footz is a beautiful bay colored Quarter Horse
Cross gelding with a long flowing black mane and tail
and one white sock on his right hind leg. This is no
beauty contest, but if it were, Footz just might win!
Footz is the oldest horse at camp so far, at 16
years. He’s ready to get his driver’s license becausehe loves trail rides! This is Footzes second year at
camp and he can’t wait to get his yellow button.
Pee Wee is also a Quarter Horse Cross gelding and is
entering his 8th year at Camp Pisgah. He is our
darkest horse and does not need sunscreen on hisnose in the summer like the others. Plus, the mint
green button he’ll receive this summer will help
deflect the sun. You can identify Pee Wee by the
central whorl on this head and the white sock on his
left front leg. Pee Wee is a fancy horse with small,
dainty feet. When he trots he looks like he’s
prancing like a little ballerina! Perhaps Juilliard is in
his future!
Another American Quarter Horse gelding, Mason is abeautiful bay colored horse with black socks on all
four legs. This will be Mason’s third year at camp
(orange button year!) and he is another big
sweetheart! Like most horses, Mason is very fond of
treats, such as apples and carrots. (It’s funny that
animals consider fruits and vegetables “treats”! If
only humans felt the same…). Mason has already
made fast friends with the locals. Last night he was
spotted hanging out with Silver and a random deer–
let’s call him Bucky– in the pasture, nibbling on grass
and swapping war stories!

The Great Eight!he Great Eight!
Joe, Lil Joe, Little Joe, Joey Boy… whatever you
wish to call him, this American Paint Horse gelding
has been coming to Camp Pisgah with is BFF Pee Wee
for the past 8 years… Yay mint green button! Joe is
the only horse with white socks on both front legs
and white stockings on both hind legs. He has a
beautiful tri-colored tail that the staff affection-ately named Oreo Tail. Joe also has a crazy left eye
that gets super big when there’s activity around him!
Tigger is our youngest horse, at 4 years old. He is an
American Quarter Horse gelding that has attended
Camp Pisgah for two years now. Just like the
loveable character in Winnie the Pooh, Tigger is
super sweet and affectionate. He begs for petting
and loves to give great, big pony hugs (that’s when
you gently bear hug his face!). Tigger loves the
company of his herd and doesn’t like to be leftbehind in the stable if there is an adventure to be
had.
Lil Joe Tigger
Rocket is a Roan Pony gelding attending Camp
Pisgah for his second year. You can tell Rocket by
his beautiful brown body with white hairs
intermixed. True to his name, Rocket is super fast
for advanced riders. He is also known as the
“brave little pony who could” because he oftenleads the herd on trail rides. Rocket will receive
his yellow button along with Footz and Tigger for
two years of devotion to Camp Pisgah!
Rocket
And our newest addition, Poco, is a red roan
American Quarter Horse gelding. His full name is
actually Pocos-Doc-Bar-Fury. Maybe his parents
couldn’t quite make up their minds when naming
him! Next to Ellie Mae, Poco is the tallest horsein the herd. He is super friendly and is getting
adjusted to the new environment. Being a newbie,
Poco will receive his white button this summer
and hopefully win over all your hearts! We’ll learn
more about our new friend Poco as the summer
progresses. Kook is actually planning to ride him a
bit this week, so we’ll have a story or two about
Poco in next week’s issue.
