Principal’s Report

Starting with some sad news, Ms Leenie Hamilton , one of our Assistant Principals, has been given some bad health

news and needs to take unexpected sick leave. Ms Hamilton will not be returning to Warners Bay Public this year.

Ms Hamilton has been very concerned for her students in 1/2H and has written a separate note to those families.

We sincerely wish Leenie all the very best for her health and quick recovery. Our thoughts are with her at this

time.

I have said publicly and repeatedly, that I believe our teaching staff here at warners Bay are outstanding, and as

we head in to week 6, this has once again been confirmed to me by our wonderful Warners Bay team in recent

weeks. Our staff have been working tirelessly and very long hours to complete students reports that truly reflect

your child’s achievement levels. In addition they have been very busy preparing for Showcase. We are all very

excited about this, and look forward to sharing this exciting event with you.

Since the tickets were released to the community, we have now released over 840 tickets. Due to additional

demand, we are now selling tickets to our dress rehearsal. We fully understand that this may not suit everyone.

However, we hope that families may take advantage of these extra tickets if they do not already have seats.

We have also been able to secure a special offer for group photos. Of course, as always, all parents are able to take

photos of their own children. However, due to Child protection issues, we request that no photos are taken of

students on stage, or videos taken of the performance. We do have children in our school who are not able to have

photos taken and shared publicly, and it is essential that we respect their right to privacy during these

performances. The group shots will be on sale and they will include only children who have permission to be

photographed. The cost will be $7.00 – the school will make no money from this.

Move4Diabetes day

Thank you to everyone who got behind this very deserving cause, and thank you to Ms Bath who is a fabulous

ambassador for Diabetes. She is a great role model to our students and staff, and her energy within our school is

always impressive!

Warm regards,

Assistant Principal’s Report

Showcase Concert

My goodness what a busy term we've had so far and in just a week our Showcase Concert will be ready to hit the

stage! All of the classes will be polishing up their acts, pulling together last minute costumes and fine tuning the

running order of the show and this may lead to some unexpected changes to our usual routines this week and we

apologise for any inconvenience.

Next Monday, 21st November will be our full dress rehearsal on the stage at the High School ready for our first

evening show. Please make sure you have returned your child's permission note and $1 for the bus trip down to the

High School for our rehearsal. Thank you to all the staff who have given up their time and creative ideas to work on

our concert, especially the creative team with lights, music and backdrops of Mr Berger, Miss Jones and Mrs Lane.

Dates Due and Payments

Just a reminder to please check the Dates to Remember section at the top of each newsletter. It informs you of

upcoming events and any dates for notes or when payments are due. As part of our new financial management

system we no longer have the facilities to write cheques and all payments must be paid by the due date. We don't

want anyone to miss out on a special event like Party Day!

Absence Notes

If you child has not attended school we need to be informed as to why you child has been away and have to mark

this as either sickness or leave on the rolls. They may have been sick or had an appointment you were unable to

schedule outside school hours or a significant family event. Please try to remember to send in the note, as soon as

your child returns to school. Lots of parents are using the App, on the day their child is away, to save the bother of

remembering dates their child was away later on. You can email or speak to your child's teacher about the absence.

If no note or explanation is provided the absence is marked as unexplained.

Presentation Day this year will take place on Thursday, 8th December under the Primary Cola. The format will be

similar to that of last year. We will have a K-5 Presentation commencing at 9.30am, followed by a lunch break

before the Year 6 Presentation at 12pm. Just to let new families to the school know it is best to arrive early to get

a seat!

Trish Blyth

Assistant Principal

A note from Ms Hamilton…

I would like to inform you that, unfortunately, I will not be able to finish this year at school due to unexpected

health issues. I was diagnosed earlier last week with a tumour on my brain and will be having surgery this week to

get it removed. This means I will be taking leave for the remainder of the year as the recovery will take a while.

I have enjoyed every moment of teaching 1/2H this year and being part of the community that is Warners Bay

Public School. 1/2H students will hold a special place in my heart. They are amazing little souls, full of character and

positive energy.

It does sadden me that I cannot complete this year at school, but I know they will be in great hands of Miss Nikki.

The kids are amazing and will continue to shine.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the whole school community all the best for the remainder of the year.

There are so many exciting events to look forward to this term - Showcase, Presentation Day, Party Days, the list

goes on! What a lovely way to end the year!

Looking forward to seeing you all in 2017

Love Leenie Hamilton

Aerobics Spring Challenge Congratulations to our three Aerobics teams - the Warriors, Whirlwinds and Wildfires who competed at the School

Aerobics Spring Challenge on Saturday 5th November. The behaviour and sportsmanship of all students is to be

commended, and this didn't go unnoticed by the School Aerobics organisers and judges, as well as coaches from

other teams.

Our Warners Bay Warriors and Wildfires competed for the first time and should be very proud of their efforts

and achievements. Our boys team - the Warriors, walked away with the silver medal, and our Future Legends team

were awarded with the bronze medal.

Mrs Lane and Miss Jones

This is the Warners Bay Whirlwinds with a silver medal to finish their competition year and Norah Holland with her

information leaflet from the office.

Kinder News Week 6…. Where has the year gone?

Your beautiful children have nearly finished their first year of schooling. They have had a wonderful year, and grown in so

many ways. Now they are getting ready for the next adventure.

Mosquitos/ Frozen Ice Brick

These are shocking at the moment, and there are poor little legs with mosquito bites. You are encouraged to put mosquito

repellent on at home. Department Policy does not allow us to apply repellent.

Another remedy is the ice brick or frozen water bottle to take the itch away. Please pack a frozen water bottle or ice

brick for your child with their name on it.

Concert Rehearsals

Please send in all your costume tomorrow - NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY. We need to check it is all there.

LABELS ON EVERYTHING – EVEN SOCKS, SHOES AND UNDERWEAR. Please send in a “green Coles bag” or similar.

Preferably not a plastic bag.

On Monday all Children will come to school for roll call and then board buses to WBHS. If it’s possible just pack a small bag

for your child with only the essentials, water, recess, lunch, costumes, hat. FULLY LABELED. A small drawing book and a

pencil or a pack of cards is a good way to keep them entertained. NO IPADS OR IPODS. They are going to be at our venue

for a looooong time.

Thanks to those that paid their $1 promptly. And RETURNED THE PERMISSION NOTE.

Homework Bags, Sight Words and Home Reading

We hope you had fun with these bags. And possibly learnt some new skills. We have finished these now and have to

stocktake all the contents. As you can imagine there is a lot of work to do…

Sight words - keep practising, we may not always test on Friday with the crazy impromptu events happening of late. But

you are still learning. Last 2 Fridays have seen WB EL& C Centre share the morning in the kindy rooms. This has been a

wonderful experience for all concerned, but changes our routines of sight word testing and such.

Home Reading should continue to the end of the year. Keep up the amazing reading Kindergarten –you are showing amazing

growth in reading. But reading should never stop –even in the school holidays. This will help you be ready for year 1…

Reading groups

Week 6- flexible, we are fitting in where we can around rehearsals and such.

Week 7 - NO READING GROUPS

Week 8 - return to groups

THANKYOU to the wonderful mums, dads, nans, pops who dedicated their time to helping out with groups. It was wonderful

to see you sharing in your child’s learning, even if you only attended once.

Our regulars, we couldn’t have attempted the things we have done in kindy without your support- so a big huge thankyou to

you!!! You know who you are.

STARS OF THE WEEK

You may have heard the BUZZ around the kindy rooms these past 2 weeks. That is because we are choosing 2 stars each

week at the moment, reason being every child will have 2 turns at being the star!!! How good is that? Our favourite time of

the Week is to watch the excitement and joy and anticipation as each class gets to see which friend it will be. I would like

to congratulate all the children on being so supportive to all their friends each week.

The SOTW program will conclude in 2 weeks. Thanks to the families that have supported us with this wonderful program –

your posters and pages in the Visual Diaries have been MAGNIFICENT! And something that each class looks forward to

seeing and talking about.

We hope you had fun with your children too!

K-2 Assembly

As already mentioned the wonderful KW has been flexible and swapped with KH and Mrs Hoscher to run the assembly in

week 6.

KH will run the Assembly in Week 8 as Mrs Hoscher is attending a training course on Thursday 17th November.

Please come to these performances and watch your precious children run their LAST kindergarten assemblies. You will be

blown away by how mature and confident they have become. Bring your nans, pops and aunties and uncles too!

Christmas Craft

Our favourite time of the Year!

There will be a separate note explaining this. We hope to see you in our rooms. YAY!!!!!

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN KH?

Following are some photos of the exciting things that happen in KH… Just tooo much fun to be had…

We have been so lucky to enjoy special visits this past month where the clever KH kids have taught 1/2H and 1M and 2S

how to play draughts or checkers… so much fun. Why not challenge your child this weekend?

KH have loved playing with the equal arm balance, money and 3D objects. The playdoh was a big hit… LOL not for Cheryl our

cleaner though… eeeekkkkk.

3P invited us to the COLA to learn about hopscotch and their new variations on this cool game. We enjoyed listening to

their procedures and explanations of the rules of their version of the game.

Henry Batchelor wowed us with his electric guitar and got the whole class bopping away to his exceptional music skills.

The Warners Bay Early Learning and Care Centre visited us twice and enjoyed drawing pictures of the stars of the week.

Ruby caught up with a friend that she had known for ages.

Charlotte and Jemma were very excited to see some of their old teachers and little friends. We are looking forward to

seeing our new little friends in Kindergarten 2017.

Head lice are still being found across the school. Please check your child’s hair and if necessary treat accordingly.

If you need information on how best to treat head lice, please speak with your child’s teacher.

Party Day

Party Day is being held on the 14th December. You will be receiving more information about the day very soon.

Showcase

Showcase is being held next Monday and Tuesday night at Warners Bay High School. It starts at 6:30pm. A full

dress rehearsal will be held at the High School on Monday. Students will come to school as normal on the Monday

and buses have been organised to transport the children. Students will then be returning back to WBPS in the

afternoon.

If you have any concerns, please have a chat with your class teacher.

What’s happening in 1-3B? It is hard to believe that we are already well into Term 4. In 1-3B, we have been working really hard and everyone

continues to try their best each and every day. A special mention needs to go to an amazing student in our class,

Matilda Roberts. She took these wonderful photos of 1-3B and it really captures what we do each and every day in

our class. It really does highlight that each and every one of us has a unique gift and it all just comes down to

getting the opportunity to shine. Well done, Matilda!

Thanks

Showcase Concert

Please remember to return permission notes for the dress rehearsal next Monday. Children will be unable to attend

without permission.

Christmas Craft

3PR, 3W and 4H have some clever Christmas craft planned. To make our trees, each child needs to bring in 15 to 20

round Christmas baubles. They can be a variety of colours and sizes but mustn’t be glass. They need to have the

strings already attached (most cheap ones do). Cheap shops and Kmart, Big W have large packs for around $5.

Please bring the baubles in a plastic bag (or box) with their name clearly marked, by 25th November.

Showcase Costumes for 4J

Many of you may remember that I posted info about the costumes needed for Showcase early in Term 3, but in

case anyone has forgotten, children simply need to come in what they would wear to a dance or disco - colourful,

everyday clothes. If they are in another item (for dance, guitars or whatever), they can use that as their costume

or add to it if they choose.

Christmas Craft for 4J

We will be making bonbons in the class. Could each student please bring in a small box of favourites, and a roll of

good quality Xmas paper (the really cheap stuff tears too easily). I will supply the crackers, tape, ribbon and the

tubes. Christmas Craft will be on Thursday afternoons starting Week 7, so anyone who would like to assist is most

welcome. Please get those contributions coming in as soon as possible. Thanks.

Year 3 Cooking

Year 3 cooked fried rice 2 weeks ago and did a fantastic job. It was absolutely delicious. Thanks to the parents

that came to help or sent in supplies. Cooking won’t take place this week due to Showcase rehearsal, however we will

be cooking again in Weeks 7 & 9 on the Wednesday if any parents or grandparents can help. 3PR will cook 12:00pm –

12:45pm and 3H will cook 12:45pm-1:30pm. Please make sure you sign on at the office.

Aquarium

Mrs Jacobi has an aquarium that she is offering to give away and have removed from her classroom. It does not

seal properly so would need to either be repaired or used as a dry space. Please see Mrs Jacobi if you’re

interested.

Stage Three News

5B have been having a wonderful and exciting Term 4. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time on the Year 5 and 6

Bathurst excursion 2 weeks ago and can’t wait for next year’s camp. This term is very busy with a lot of events on.

We would like to highlight a few major events for year 5 as everyone’s organisation is essential over the next

coming weeks. First up Year 5 have ‘Year 7 for a day’ this coming Thursday the 17th of November.

We can’t wait to go to Warners Bay High School to join in with the ‘big kids’. The big week of Showcase is next

week, starting off with a rehearsal at Warners Bay High School on Monday. Students come to school like normal and

will travel to and from the High School with us. That night it is finally show time!! We have been working really hard

to perfect our performances and can’t wait to show you all our hard work and just how good we can groove!

Congratulations to all our nominees for Captains. It’s now time to work on perfecting your speeches, ready to

present to all of Year 4 and 5 on the 24th of November.

Students going in to Year 7 in 2017 are reminded to complete the application online for bus travel to and from

school. Forms must be completed and forwarded to the High School as soon as possible for signature – please see

the website for more details: www.opal.com.au

Have an amazing term everyone and good luck to our nominees!
