  • THE EVERYDAY MATHS HUB

THE EVERYDAY MATHS HUB The Department of Education has just released the Everyday Maths Hub. It is an online platform helping parents and carers engage their children in Mathematics. The hub features fun, in-teractive resources and explainers about a wide range of mathe-matics topics and how they are relevant to everyday life. I en-courage you to have a look and even try one of the activities. Website: https://education.nsw.gov.au/campaigns/mathematics Maths Team Emma Milne

    YEAR 4 MATHS EXTENSION

This term, Year 4 Maths Extension are solving a range of logic puzzles. This week, students attempted a sliding

counter problem. The object was to move the coloured counters to their respective sides in as few moves as

possible. After several attempts, the fewest number of moves achieved was 29.

  • CLASS SENATORS

Due to Covid, the decision was made to keep the same senators for Term 3. Now that we are back together, some new students have been given this exciting opportunity! Class Senators are students who nominate themselves and are voted by their peers to represent their class at Rozelle Public School. They are encouraged to display leadership qualities such as confidence, initiative and prob-lem-solving skills. They will carry out additional tasks and jobs as directed by their teacher. They will also attend meetings to discuss and plan events to support a charity. Mrs Flegg and Ms Genion would like to congratulate the following K– 6 students.

  • MUSIC COUNT US IN 2020

MUSIC COUNT US IN 2020! “YOU WON’T BRING US DOWN!” On Thursday the 5th of November, Rozelle participated in the nation-wide annual performance of Music Count us In! Each year students, teachers and community join together to sing a song on the same day and at the same time! This year the song ‘You won’t bring us down” was a motivational song with the themes ‘INCLUSION & RE-SILIENCE’. The live stream concerts were quite special this year as it included a signing choir performance from the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC), Thomas Pattison School, and an indigenous language (Wajarri) performance from the Yamatji region in W.A. Due to the restrictions on singing, Rozelle did a brilliant job of learning the Auslan version of this song. Students really enjoyed being able to perform music through signing.

    RECRUITMENT OF ROZELLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

The process to find a new principal for Rozelle Public School remains in progress. The appointment of a school leader is an absolutely critical one, and it is essential that a candidate who has the right skills, experience and leadership qualities is sourced and appointed. I very much appreciate the patience that the Rozelle community has shown during the recruitment process, and I know that you all want the very best person to fill such an important role in the lives of your children, and the panel and I feel exactly the same way.

THE AIR OUT THERE Is the air our students, staff and visitors breathe safe?

What does an air quality monitoring station do?

Did you know our school has one?

Last year our P&C approved the installation of an air quality monitoring station. The decision was made in response to the impact from major infrastructure projects currently underway and planned near our school, and the bushfires that raged throughout summer. The system helps us monitor and make sense of the quality of air our students, staff and visitors breathe. We can measure and record several key air quality factors, including dust particles, ozone, carbon mon-oxide and nitrogen dioxide. The system also alerts us when the air quality is poor, and we need to take action. Knowing who should act, when and how is important, which us why we’re developing a plan with guid-ance from an air quality specialist and NSW Department of Education. This is a great opportunity to get involved, for those who are interested, as the plan is still in its early phases. We’re also encouraging students to participate, as the station is an excellent education tool for exploring the science and importance of the air we breathe.
