It was a fantastic day for all the students. If the students were not participating, they were cheering on their team and friends. The atmosphere was wonderful. A massive thank you to Mrs Amanda Perkins for live streaming both events to the P&C Facebook page and travelling back and forth between the school and the athletics track. I would not have been able to run the day without the dedicated Nemingha staff. Thanks to Ms Reid and Mrs Douglas for stepping in on the day to lend a hand. Different ... but still fun!On Friday 28 August we saw a very different athletics carnival, with Years 2-6 competing at the Tamworth Regional Athletics Centre and K-1 staying behind to have a fun day of athletics activities at school organised by Mrs Amber

McDonald. What a special and fun time for our Infants students. Years 2-6 travelled by bus to the new Tamworth athletics track, tucked away behind the sports dome. A sea of students streamed through the gates on the beautiful sunny day. Team banners There was a hive of activity all day from running, throwing and jumping.

Humans need other humansChristopher Jackson, Principal

Over the past few weeks there have been a number of incidents where children have not been very understanding towards other. Usually in Term 4 we do see an increase of conflicts between students; however this recent increase may well be a result of COVID-19. While we haven’t had any cases here in Tamworth, stress levels in our community have certainly impacted on our lives.

As teachers, our goal at school is to help students build the resilience and self-awareness they need to be successful. This is done in partnership with support from home.

Resilience is defined as the ability to bounce back from adversity. It is a necessary skill for coping with the ups and downs of life and one of the key ingredients of success. A number of things impact on a person’s resilience, including their previous experiences, their sense of self, the coping strategies they have developed over time and their mindset.

Students need to be taught that failure can be a precursor to success and is a necessary component of learning. I saw a quote on our Year 1 classroom door this week. “Mistakes are proof that you are trying.” The only way to succeed with

tasks, assignments and tests, in physical activities such as sport, and in life in general is through perseverance and

persistence, and by embracing and learning from failure. This is a growth mindset and a key aspect of developing resilience.

Resilience is directly related to wellbeing; it is about having the ability to cope with and adapt to new situations. Being resilient and positive, with a sense of wellbeing, enables a person to approach other people and situations with confidence and optimism. This mindset is especially important for students given the enormous changes and challenges they face. This year has certainly thrown a “curve ball” straight at our faces!

By helping students to develop the skills to build resilience, we can minimise the

effects of negative, stressful situations and acting out in inappropriate ways. Starting next term we will have student welfare sessions targeting resilience which will allow our students to face challenges, learn from them, and develop ways to live a happy and healthy life.

ExaminationsMr Jackson met with most of

he candidates yesterday at lunchtime. They each took a student sheet home. They need to be returned next week with the title of the personal project they wish to talk about and a copy of their poem.

Mr Jackson has a number of poetry books he can offer students if they are having difficulty choosing one. ASCA examinations will be held in Week 4 next term.

Tell them from meNext term, our school will taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey.

The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them.

Staff will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. To ensure confidentiality, participating students will receive a unique username and password. The survey takes 30 minutes or less to complete and will be administered by the school during normal school hours. Once the surveys are completed by students, reports are prepared and in most cases are available to schools within three business days.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish.

If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please fill in the form which will be sent out next week and return it to school by Friday 11 September.

Fruit and vegorama! It’s fruit and vegetable month. To celebrate fruit and vegetable month we are running a competition between the classes to try as many different fruits and vegetables as they can during fruit break.

Assembly to be live streamedNext week our school assembly will be hosted by Years 3/4 (Miss Fogarty's and Mrs Miller's classes).Once again parents can watch the assembly live streamed through Facebook. Please ensure you are able to access

the link through Facebook by “friending” the P&C. Either log on to Facebook at the time of the assembly or receive a notification when the live stream commences.

Da Vinci'sApprenticeOn Friday 11 September, our students will be transported back to 16th century Italy on a journey of musical discovery with Da Vinci’s Apprentice. This exciting new group will be visiting our school “virtually” through Zoom. Their program focuses on a talented young girl, Roberta, living in Renaissance Italy and dreaming of becoming an apprentice to the greatest inventor of them all, Leonardo Da Vinci. Set to a new score by award-winning Australian composer, Sally Greenaway, and directed by Priscilla Jackman, students are taught that every child can be an inventor. There is no cost for this incursion.
