We have just finished Education Week 2019 which was celebrated via the Peel Network Education Week Awards held at Nemingha Public School last Monday. At these awards, schools were provided the opportunity to recognise three members of the school community who have made significant contributions to our school. It gives me great pleasure to announce this year’s Tamworth High School awardees: • Outstanding student achievement award - Giaan White Giaan is an outstanding student who has demonstrated excellent achievement by maintaining academic excellence, school representation in a number of sports and leadership involvement at Tamworth High School. • Outstanding contribution to a school by a member of the school community - Shaza – Leigh Butler Shaza - Leigh has been a positive, supportive and valued contributor to Tamworth High School community for

countless years. Both in formal roles as the President of the P&C, to serving on numerous committees, and participating in countless school events. • Outstanding contribution to the school by a staff member - Breanna McFadyen Breanna is a valuable member of the Tamworth High School community. Breanna’s commitment to the field of Creative and Performing Arts has been outstanding. Later this term we will be holding the Semester 2 parent-teacher evenings on Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th of September. In response to parent feedback, we have decided to open these evenings to parents of all year groups, thus providing more flexibility for parents, especially those with several students enrolled. Parents will be able to make bookings via the SENTRAL Parent Portal in the near future.

During week 1 of Term 3, Tamworth was privileged enough to host Mathematics teacher, author, ABC presenter, and 2018 Australian Local Hero Eddie Woo. During his visit to Tamworth, Eddie spent time with both teaching staff and students.Monday 22 of July, being staff development day for term 3 allowed Mathematics staff from Tamworth High and other government high schools to attend a valuable professional development session with Eddie at Oxley High School. This session was followed up on Tuesday 23 July at Tamworth High School where we hosted Eddie for a senior mathematics masterclass attended by students from THS, Farrer, Peel High School and Oxley High School. During the session Eddie utilised his infectious passion for mathematics and teaching, to provide insight into the Mathematics syllabus and how students can use what they learn in Math in the real world, and how math and numbers are in everything we see. This session provided to be highly engaging for the staff and students who attended the event. To add to this I had the privilege of hosting a professional development dinner at Wests Leagues Club on the Tuesday evening for the Australian College of Educators with Eddie as the guest speaker. Again Eddie proved to be a hit, with some 170 attendees from as far afield as Moree, Scone, Gunnedah and Armidale. On behalf of all staff and students I would like to take the opportunity to thank Eddie for accepting my invitation to not only attend Tamworth but for also taking the time to come to THS to engage with staff and students.
