Term 2 Week 5
We’re Back!
There were big smiles, sighs of relief and sounds of happiness all round, as we resumed fulltime face to face teaching and learning yesterday. Everything went smoothly as we jumped back into what we do best.
Again, I cannot thank HCS staff enough for the professional manner in which they have managed the teaching and learning over the past few months. Their dedication and commitment to our students goes above and beyond the norm.
The Buzz!
Last Wednesday the 20th May was World Bee Day and the word is out about HCS’s hives and our teaching and learning programs. Click on this link to see an article on the Department’s web page.

Uniform
Reminder that now we are back fulltime students are expected to wear correct full winter uniform. In the colder weather make sure you purchase items to keep you warm that are part of the uniform (eg school pants/tracksuits and jackets/jumpers – (no hoodies), navy scarf & beanie).
Mobile Phones
Just a reminder that the use of mobile phones at school for our secondary students is a privilege, not a right. Those students who repeatedly breach our school rules in relation to the use of mobile phones, including letting others use their device, will have their privileges revoked.
Parents are reminded not to text or phone during class as it is upsetting to the child and disruptive to the class. If a parent or caregiver needs to contact a student at school as a result of an emergency, they are required to call the school’s main office on (02) 6967 2277 and a message will be sent immediately to the student. If a student needs to make emergency contact with anyone they are to do so through the school’s main office.
Canteen
The school canteen will be open for business as usual from Monday next week the 1st June
Reminders
During this time we will need to continue to maintain good hygiene habits and social distancing where possible. Parents must continue to
• not be on site at school. If there is a necessity for you to be at school you must only
attend the front office – under no circumstances are you to go directly to the classrooms.
• drop off and pick up students from the gates, to stop having too many adults in the school
• Communicate with the school via email and phone wherever possible
• If your child is unwell please keep them at home and if your child is unwell at school, parents will be contacted to come and collect their child. The Department of Education has given all schools a first aid kit, which includes a contactless thermometer, which staff will use in their response to a child who presents with symptoms of illness including fever.
• Make sure your child/children has a drink bottle and it is clearly labelled – no access to bubblers just the water bottle filling station.
• Make sure your child/children has lunch and snacks – canteen remains closed for the time being.
Stay safe and warm

Secondary School Sport Choices
This term has been difficult for everyone with social
distancing rules and isolation due to COVID-19. With
only 5 weeks of school sport remaining for the term
and a number of restrictions in place in regards to
school sport and students contact we would like to
offer secondary students the opportunity to
participate in one of the following 3 sports for the
remainder of the term. These sports have been
selected specifically as they meet the recommended
guidelines and will allow students to get out and be
active while maintaining their social distance. Please
discuss the following sport options with your child,
students will make their choices on Wednesday 27th
May.
Sports to choose from
Bike Riding (off road)- students will have the
opportunity to cycle around the back trails of Hillston.
Students must have their own bike that is in good
working order and that can go off road. Students
must also bring and wear a suitable bike helmet and a
water bottle.
Boot Camp (Fitness & Boxing)- students will be given
the opportunity to improve their cardio fitness
through engagement in a fitness circuit program
which will incorporate some boxing skills, skipping
and general body conditioning.
Hall Sports (non-contact)- Badminton, Volleyball and
table tennis.

During our PBL unit we have been learning about different countries around the world. Today Year Two went on a virtual tour through the Great Wall of China. We were then challenged to create our own wall using LEGO. Our creativity & imagination was certainly on display today!

having success with the QuickSmart Numeracy
