    Term 2 - Week 3

    Dear parents and carers

A reminder to our community that from this week all of our students will have an opportunity to attend

school one day a week with their peers. During their allocated day, students will have the opportunity to

reconnect with their friends, teachers and school environment. This day will also give the teacher the

opportunity to give face to face feedback and clarify particular concepts.

We know that engagement and wellbeing are the foundation of learning, and bringing students back to

school one day a week, safely, allows us to check in, see how they’re tracking and maintain the

relationships that are so important to student outcomes.

We have divided our school into stages and all students will be supervised by teachers in small groups

of between 10 and 12 students, spread out in classrooms across the school. This will allow for some

social distancing to continue, where possible. I am confident that our teachers are very well prepared

to ensure that every single child will continue to be known, valued and cared for.

    Phase 1- Week 3

Today, we will move into Phase 1 of the managed return to school for students. In this phase, all NSW

students will attend school one day per week and learn remotely 4 days per week.

    The arrangements are as follows:

    • Monday 11 May 2020 - Stage 3 students (Years 5 & 6)

    • Tuesday 12 May 2020 - Stage 1 students (Years 1 & 2)

    • Wednesday 13 May 2020 - Stage 2 students (Year 3 & 4)

    • Thursday 14 May 2020 - Kindergarten students

All students are asked to bring their ‘Learning from Home’ pack to school on their allocated

day in Week 3 so teachers can review work completed and continue to deliver the ’One

Unit of Learning’ whilst students are at school.

  • Hygiene

It continues to be vitally important that if your child is sick they stay at home. To ensure we all stay well,

if a child comes to school sick, we will call parents and carers to come and pick them up. When children

are at school we will continue to reinforce good hygiene procedures.

What is being done to ensure schools are safe during the phased return?

NSW schools are safe, clean and secure places for students and staff. Schools have been sent additional

provisions of soap and hygiene supplies, such as hand sanitiser.

In addition to daily general cleaning, enhanced cleaning is being carried out with a thorough wipe down

of targeted areas including hard surfaces, door handles, light switches and handrails in stairways and

    movement areas.

    • All schools have an additional 25 per cent of cleaning hours each day to ensure that high touch

surfaces are thoroughly cleaned every day and this will continue for as long as required.

    • Bathrooms and high touch areas to be cleaned during the day including after recess and lunch.

    • Schools will continue to implement good hygiene practices, including:

o Washing hands frequently with soap and water before and after eating

o Washing hands after going to the toilet

o Covering the nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze

    o Avoiding touching your face

o Limiting physical contact when greeting people

o Limiting physical contact in the playground

    Communication

Our communication channels remain the same during this time. You can call the school office or contact

us via the school email. If you need to contact a teacher please use these channels and the

correspondence will be passed on to the teacher and they will contact you.

I will continue to communicate with you as necessary through the School eNews App. This is a vital

communication channel for the school so please make sure that this is downloaded onto your device.

Thank you again for your ongoing support and understanding during this time.

    Kind regards

    Kate Holmes

    Principal

  • Changes to School Arrival and Departure Routines

During our ‘managed return to school’ period at Botany Public School several changes to drop off and picks have been put in place to help maintain social distancing. Pick up is significantly different. Please familiarise yourself and your children with these expectations. You must follow the school’s advice with regard to these procedures. In anticipation we thank you for cooperation and apologise for any inconveniences that may arise from these new procedures.

    Morning Drop off time

Parents will be required to drop their children off between 8.45 - 9.00am. Staff members will be stationed inside the Botany Road gates to receive your child and to direct them where they are required to be. This is the only entrance and exit point during drop off.

    Afternoon Pick up time

    K-2 students from 2.30 - 2.45pm

    3-6 students from 2.45 - 3.00pm

Siblings may be picked up at the same time

The Entrance Point for Pick Up

The entrance point to the school for pick up is via the Botany Road gates ONLY! There will be a series of arrows placed around the school grounds which show the pathways parents and caregivers are directed to take in order to pick up their child/children. There will be a staff member to guide you.

    Pick Up Points

    * Kindergarten and Year 1 - the Johnny Warren Community Hall

    * Year 2 - the courtyard verandah (outside the 2L classroom)

    * 3/4B, 3/4S and 3/4T - the silver seats around the courtyard

    * 4/5R, 5/6G and 5/6R - the Wellbeing Hall

    Exit Points

There are only two exit points available to parents and caregivers after collecting their child/children

    - The Johnny Warren Community Hall gate - The Bay Street gate

Upon collecting you child/children, please leave promptly by either of the exit points being mindful of appropriate social distancing protocols. Do not leave by the main Botany Road gates!

The school requests that parents and carers to not gather in groups on site at pick up and drop off points outside the school gates.

Important Information What a great start to Term 2! These last two weeks we kicked off our TeamKids 100Hrs Outdoors challenge. Although the weather has been a bit chilly it has not stopped us from getting outdoors. We have been having our delicious breakfast specials and afternoon tea outdoors at our brand-new picnic tables, doing our arts and craft activities and have had many skipping competitions and of course our favourite outdoor game here at Botany ‘Red Rover’.

During our last two weeks we have been looking at being more Sustainable. We have had discussions with the children about what it looks like to be sustainable and how you can live a sustainable life. We have been focusing on using our scrap paper for craft activities and the children have loved using our cardboard boxes from our deliveries to create their ‘Botany café’. This has allowed their imaginations to run wild. We look forward to seeing what the children create next!
