A message from Brad
Welcome back everyone! I hope that everyone enjoyed their Easter break and allowed themselves some rest and recuperation.
We are going to have to buckle ourselves in for a massive Term 2 with numerous sporting events including athletics and cross country as well NAPLAN and school excursions!
This Thursday is the annual Small Schools Cross Country. We will be joined by our friends from Eurongilly, Binalong, Jugiong, Brungle, Gundagai South and Nangus. Our students have been in training since the start of the term and we all cannot wait to sample the wonderful P&C catering! I look forward to catching up with you all on the day!
We will also be learning about robots during the term as we receive our robotics kit as part of our science program.
Last Tuesday, our tennis court surface was completed with only the lights to be installed. Kerry ands his team from Riverina Sports have done a wonderful job. I cant wait to have the BBQ area and picnic tables installed in the very near future.
Happy Mothers Day to all the wonderful mothers. I hope you all enjoy your day this weekend and get spoilt with a sleep in, gifts and maybe a cooked meal!
That’s about all for this week. Enjoy the week everyone!

A message from Miss Reynolds
Our students have commenced the term full of enthusiasm and vigour. During our Creative Arts lesson the students created ‘Picasso’s Dog’ using the primary colours to mix and form their desired secondary colour with the acrylic paint.
The Kinder students have been exploring the ‘ai and ‘j’ sounds while the Year 1 students are focusing on identifying verbs and writing verbs in our sentences.
In Numeracy we are continuing to have a number of the day focus where students identify the numeral, practice forming the numeral correctly and using that number to add or subtract with concrete materials.

Numeracy in the spotlight
This week in Numeracy we will tackle multiplication. Our senior students will revise 2 digit multiplication while our junior students will look at using groups to count in 2’s and 5’s. Do you remember what you call an answer to a multiplication problem?
Times table of the week is :
x 12 for year 5
x 5 for year 2
Literacy Corner
This week in Literacy, we will begin to read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl during modelled reading. Our school will be off to see the theatre production of the story in Sydney on the 5th of June. Our students have thoroughly enjoyed reading Roald Dahl stories over the years including The Twits, James and the Giant Peach and Matilda. Which is your favourite?
Premier’s Reading Challenge
From March to August the books read at home and in the classroom will be collated for our students to take part in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. Miss Reynolds is currently recording the texts from the Home Learning Journal and those read in the classroom for individual students. If students are reading other books can you please send a list in with your child for Miss Reynolds to enter into each child’s Reading Log.

Micalong Camp
Luke Weston drove Jack Archie and I over to
Micalong shearing huts early Thursday morning.
The shearing huts we stayed at were on a farm
called Cooradigbee. When we got to
Cooradigbee huts we settled into our rooms and
there were three Wee Jasper kids waiting for us,
after that we all went to the shearing shed and
played tap for an hour, Mrs Andrews called us
over and we learnt some history of Wee Jasper
for about 45 minutes, after that we rode push
bikes. We went back to the shed and played tap
for 25 minutes then it was recess. Two men from
Canberra University came, we got to play games
with lollies and we got to eat them we played
charades and we played teamwork games and
we also did something that involved lego. The
men from Canberra left they gave us a bag each
with vortexes and texters and pens. It was play
time Dougal, Archie, Jack Cathels and I played hit
each other with the vortex, after that it was
lunch. We went back to the shearing shed and
played tap until dinner. The Year 4’s made
dinner. They made hamburgers and the Year 5’s
had to wash up. After dinner we all made
damper in our own bowls and cooked it and
marshmallows over the fire, it was delicious!
Day 2 for breakfast we had bacon, eggs and
sausages the Year 5’s cooked it and the Year 4’s
had to wash up. After breakfast Shane
Herrington came and told us how to look after
the environment then we found a cave near
Careys Cave it was a shelter that the aboriginals
used. After that we went to a camping ground.
We made axes with rocks and wood and we also
found bush tucker at the bottom of baby
Currajong trees. We went back to the huts and
had a sausage for lunch. After that we said
goodbye and jumped in the car. Alison took us
home. It was a great camping trip!!!

ANZAC
It was 1942, Australia Darwin, when our plane got shot down. The French shot us down. We crashed into a
forest of trees and few survived.
One by one we crawled out of the wrecked plane. Five of us survived and two didn’t. Sadly my mate Will,
had a hard impact and died. But we couldn’t stay there and wimp, we had to keep on moving. The French
would come soon to see if there were any survivors.
Bruised and tired we walked south hoping to find an Australian plane. We had flare guns and water but
we had to hunt to eat.
After a few days we walked 37km south till we found an aboriginal camp. We were starving. We hadn’t
found many animals to kill, so we had no other choice but to go over and ask if we can have some of their
bush tucker, Andy was an Aboriginal so he could talk to them. They let us stay with them and while we
were eating some kangaroo we saw a French plane soaring above us. We put out the fire and all hid in
the bushes. Once they left we went back to usual.
Andy told the Aboriginals that the French were invading. When we heard people walking to us we could
not see who because it was night. When they got close we could see that they were Australians. Eleven of
them shot out of their plane as well. I said that we have to fight back so we all walked East 17km to
Frances Army box. We ambushed them and lit the place on fire. They all retreated back to France. With
the Aboriginals help.
We had won the War in 1942 Darwin 11th May.

I am a Soldier at East Timor
It was a sunny day trying to help the people and kids rebuild towns and schools.
They were running low on food and water.
I was next to all these kids walking on the oval. Every one of them had a smile on their faces. They were
happy because of us helping them. They wouldn’t be here if we didn’t help. They were all nice kids there at
east Timor. It must have been terrible to leave your home just because of the war. They were excited for us
to come and build their new homes and schools. Even one of the kids told me how it was to leave their
homes, he was terrified. It was a good day at East Timor.
