NOTES SENT HOME: Harmony Day
Welcome to 2/3 news for term one… We have started the 2020 year off well, learning to become more organised and conscious of the clock! We realise that we don’t have all the time in the world to complete our work and are becoming faster at finishing and producing quality work. We have a particular emphasis on reading in our space - reading, peer reading, guided reading groups amongst reading activities. In English, we have been practising story writing - planning for 5 minutes, writing for 20 minutes and then editing for 5 minutes. We love writing which we do twice a week and we can see how much better we are getting each time. We also are regularly practising our handwriting so we can clearly write down our knowledge.
In maths we do 10 mentals every day which stretches our brain as we only get to write the answer down. We love our maths frantic frenzies which is where we practice our addition facts; we are trying to complete 100 addition facts to 20 in 5 minutes and we already have 6 peers doing this….we love this activity because we only have to get better by one correct answer every day to see that we are improving!
In science we are looking at the world’s resources and in health we have been discussing relationships with an emphasis on building positive relationships. This is supported by our PBL value of respect-treating others how we would like to be treated and participating in Harmony Day and “Bullying, No Way” Day. In sport we are also practising sportsmanship when we play kick-it. In PE we are practising for cross country, an upcoming event in a couple of weeks.
We continue with singing in CAPA and choir as well as guitar for those who are
learning it. We also have completed a lot of art. In History we are learning about
‘Past and Present Families’ and in geography we have been learning about
Australia. Our assembly item was about the facts we know about Australia and we
sang the Australian National anthem.
YEAR 6 EASTER RAFFLE
Year 6 are running an Easter raffle to raise
funds for the end of year gift to the school.
We are seeking donations to use as raffle
prizes. These donations could include but are
not limited to Easter eggs, Easter rabbits and
plush toys. The donations can be handed
into the office.
Raffle tickets will be on sale at lunch time at
a cost of $1 per ticket or 3 for $2. The raffle
will be drawn on Thursday 9/4/20 during our
Easter Hat Parade.
Thanks for your support.
Regards, Matt Lowrey and Year 6

School Cross Country Carnival
All students are participating in cross country carnival on Friday, 27th March. Our students are training three mornings a week, from Monday – Wednesday. Our plan is to run the carnival at around 9.15am, unless the weather prevents us from doing so. All families are very welcome to attend and if you are able to assist on the course, please leave your name at the office.
Cricket Team
All the best to our cricket team, who play against Karuah next Monday at Paterson.
Dr David Gillespie Visit
We had a special visitor at our assembly this week. Thank you to Dr David Gillespie, Federal Member for Lyne, who visited our school. He shared the news that we have been successful in receiving a Schools Community Fund grant of $5000 to continue our Future Kids program. This will be used to purchase more technology so that all students have ready access to devices as tools for classroom learning. Dr Gillespie also presented us with three new flags: the Australian ensign, the Aboriginal flag, and the Torres Strait Island flag, and all three will he proudly flown tomorrow.
Responsible Pet Visit
Next Wednesday our K-2 students will participate in a Responsible Pet session. They will learn how to look after their pets and how to interact with dogs and other animals when in the community. Thank you to Mrs Manderson for organising this visit.
Bullying No Way Day & Harmony Day
On Friday, 20th March the whole school will participate in lessons and activities to mark Bullying No Way Day and Harmony Day. Students are welcome to dress in something orange for the day.
P&C AGM Next Week
We would love to see you at the P&C AGM and general meeting next Monday, 16th March. We had a record number of attendees last month, it would be fantastic to see even more there. Children of all ages are very welcome to attend.
NAPLAN 2020
This year the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will take place in weeks 3 and 4 of term 2. All
students in year 3 and year 5 will participate. Once again we are using the online platform for all tests apart from year 3
writing. Further information will come home with more detail for families of children in year 3 and 5, but please feel free to
speak to me if you have any questions at all.
With thanks,
Mrs Hazell

If you are able to volunteer time in the canteen, please get in touch! You can message our Facebook page or let the office know and we will help you get started. Even if it's only one day a term, that is a huge help!
