Principal’s Report Continued

Collaborative, Respectful, Communication Respectful partnerships between home and school are key to creating positive and collaborative learning environments. Since I have been at Asquith Public School, it has become very apparent that the school community (students, staff and families) value and have great pride in the respectful, warm and inclusive culture that in many ways defines this wonderful school. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a genuine thank you to all students, staff and families for demonstrating the values of collaborative and respectful communication. Raising and educating a child can, at times present challenges, and emotions can become heightened. I encourage you to remember that we are on the same side, we have a common goal, and that is to prioritise the learning and wellbeing of all students. The NSW Department of Education has provided school communities with a School Community Charter that clearly outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive and I encourage you to read through this.

School Attendance ‘If a student misses as little as 8 days in a school term, by the end of primary school they’ll have missed over a year of school’ (Reference: NSW Department of Education). Regular school attendance is essential to a child’s wellbeing and educational achievements. APS works in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children. If your child is unwell, we do ask you to keep them at home to recuperate. If they are away for more than two days, please contact the school so we are aware of the situation. Following an absence from school you must ensure that within 7 days you provide the school with a verbal or written explanation for the absence. However, if the school has not received an explanation from you within 2 days, the school may contact you to discuss the absence. We recognise that working in partnership with parents and carers is the best way to support the regular attendance of your child, so if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher. Alternatively, you child’s teacher may contact you if they have any concerns about your child’s attendance. $457.00 is a lot of money! This is what you will be fined if you stop on or within 20 metres before a pedestrian crossing or 10 metres after a pedestrian crossing. If you park in a “No Stopping” zone you will be fined in excess of $344.00.

Principal’s Report Continued

Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that some parents are ignoring the safety traffic rules that are in

place around our school, specifically designed to keep all our children safe. We have contacted Hornsby

Council’s Ranger Services, and they will be sending additional traffic ranger patrols to monitor driver behaviour

around our school.

If you are unsure of the Parking and Traffic rules please read the attachment to this newsletter carefully. In

particular, take note of the following key points:

• Drivers may stop in the “NO PARKING’ zone to drop off or pick up for a maximum of 2 minutes only.

• The driver must remain within 3 metres of the vehicle.

• The vehicle must not be left unattended.

• Drivers need to move their car forward towards the sign pictured to create a queuing system. Brimming With Pride! Our Asquith Public School Graduates This is why we do what we do as educators and parents and carers. Our 2019 Year 6 graduates have reportedly made a great start to their High School journey. These young people are well on their way to enaging with their high school education as determined, collaborative and curious learners. Congratulations on such a positive start!
