This term we have been collecting rubbish and packages from students lunchboxes to illustrate the amount of rubbish going to landfill. We would like to trial students not bringing any packaged morning tea next term too. The school will provide extra morning tea for all students.
We would encourage you to only send in a piece of fruit for your child if you have some at home.

TERM 1, WEEK 9
GREAT NEWS, from Term 2 our school will be receiving FREE Healthy School Lunches funded by the Ministry of Education and made by Te Whare Kai a te Whanau Hapori – Family
Community Kitchen.
Every child in the school is eligible for a free lunch which is amazing, and we want our kids to not just eat but eat WELL, the rules are pretty strict about what we can use to make the meals and the variety of all the food groups especially Fruit and Vegetables. We also know
kids can be fussy, and some of the lunches might take a little while to be accepted, some things might get picked at or out, some kids might just go YUK for a little while. But our
cooks and team will watch what is happening and work closely with School and Children to make food appealing and healthy to as many children as possible ….. even if it take a little
while to get there. Our community has a wide range of cultures, dietary requirements and tastes so we have tried our best to mix things up a little for everyone while sticking to the
rules, we will keep doing this as the programme continues, changing by season and including as many favourites as we can.
Here is a Sample Menu which will change so it doesn’t get boring. Meals have to be yummy AND healthy so there will be quite a few veges hiding throughout and everyday there will
be a piece of fresh fruit. All children are given the same meals unless they have special dietary needs ie, allergies, intolerances and cultural/lifestyle diets, most of the time a
similar meals can be offered with items swapped to suit. Parents/caregivers will be asked to provide information about children who have special diets.
