21 SicherheitshinweiseDE

1.1 Sicherheits-hinweise

Benutzen Sie das Gert nur entsprechend seiner Bestimmung laut Ge-brauchsanweisung.

Bei Zweck ent fremdung erlischt der Garantie anspruch. Das Gert ist nur fr den Gebrauch im Haushalt bestimmt. Sollte es in seltenen Fllen durch eine Fehl funktion passieren, dass die

Treffen Sie aufgrund einer Selbstmessung keine therapeutischen Ma-nahmen. ndern Sie niemals die Dosierung eines vom Arzt verordnetenMedikaments!

Herzrhythmusstrungen bzw. Arrhy th mien verursachen einen unregelmi-gen Puls. Dies kann bei Mess ungen mit oszillometrischen Blut druck mess ge -rten zu Schwierig keiten bei der Er fas sung des korrekten Messwertes fhren.

Wenn Sie an Krank heiten leiden, wie z.B. arterieller Ver schluss krank heit,halten Sie bitte vor der Anwendung des Gertes Rck sprache mit Ihrem Arzt.

Das Gert kann nicht zur Kontrolle der Herz frequenz eines Schritt machersverwendet werden.

Schwangere sollten die notwendigen Vorsichtsmanahmen und ihre indivi-duelle Belastbarkeit beachten, halten Sie ggf. Rcksprache mit Ihrem Arzt.

Sollten whrend einer Messung Un an nehmlichkeiten wie z.B. Schmerz amOber arm oder andere Be schwerden auftreten, ergreifen Sie folgende Gegen -ma nahmen: Be t tigen Sie die START-Taste , um eine sofortige Ent-lftung der Man schette zu er reichen. Lsen Sie die Manschette und nehmenSie diese vom Ober arm ab. Bitte nehmen Sie Kon takt mit Ihrem Fachhndlerauf oder in for mieren Sie uns direkt.

Menschen mit flacher Pulswelle sollten den Arm anheben und die Handca. 10 mal ffnen und schliessen und dann erst messen. Durch diese bungwird erreicht, dass die Pulswelle und der Mess vorgang optimiert werden.

Verpackungen sind wiederverwendbar oder knnen dem Rohstoffkreislaufzurckgefhrt werden. Bitte entsorgen Sie nicht mehr bentigtes Verpackungs-material ordnungsgem. Sollten Sie beim Auspacken einen Transportschadenbemerken, setzen Sie sich bitte sofort mit Ihrem Hndler in Verbindung.

Achten Sie darauf, dass die Verpackungsfolien nicht in dieHnde von Kindern gelangen! Es besteht Erstickungsgefahr!

Blutdruck ist der Druck, der bei jedem Herzschlag in den Gefen entsteht.Wenn sich das Herz zusammenzieht (= Systole) und Blut in die Arterien pumpt,fhrt das zu einem Druck anstieg. Dessen hchster Wert wird als systolischerDruck bezeichnet und bei einer Blutdruck messung als erster Wert gemessen.Wenn der Herzmuskel erschlafft, um neues Blut aufzunehmen, sinkt auch derDruck in den Arterien. Sind die Gefe entspannt, wird der zweite Wert derdiastolische Druck gemessen.

Das MTD ist ein Blut druck-Messgert, das fr die Blutdruck messung am Ober-arm bestimmt ist. Die Messung erfolgt hier durch einen Mikro prozessor, derber einen Drucksensor die Druckschwankungen auswertet, die beim Auf-pumpen und Ablassen der Blutdruckmanschette ber die Arterie entstehen.

MEDISANA verfgt ber mehrjhrige Erfahrung auf dem Gebiet der Blut -druck messung. Die hohe Ge nau ig keit des Messprinzips der MEDISANA-Gerte wird von klinischen Studien, die nach internationalen Standards durch-gefhrt werden, belegt. Ein wichtiges Argu ment fr die Blutdruckmessung zuHause, ist die Tatsache, dass die Messung in der gewohnten Umge bung undunter ausgeruhten Bedin gungen durchgefhrt werden. Beson ders aussage-krftig ist der sogenannte Basis wert, der morgens direkt nach dem Auf-stehen vor dem Frhstck gemessen wird.Grundstzlich sollten Sie mglichst immer zur gleichen Zeit und unter gleichenBedingungen Ihren Blut druck messen. Denn dann ist die Vergleich barkeit derErgebnisse ge whrleistet und eine beginnende Bluthoch druck erkrankung kannfrhzeitig erkannt werden. Bleibt Blut hochdruck lange unentdeckt, steigt dasRisiko fr weitere Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen.

Messen Sie Ihren Blutdruck tglich und regelmig, auch dann, wenn Sie keine Beschwerden haben.

In der nachfolgenden Tabelle werden die Richtwerte fr hohen und niedrigenBlutdruck ohne Bercksichtigung des Alters angegeben. Diese Blutdruckbe-wertungsskala entspricht den Richtlinien der Weltgesund heits organisation(WHO).

Zu niedriger Blutdruck stellt ebenso ein Gesundheitsrisiko dar wie Bluthochdruck! Schwindelanflle knnen zu gefhrlichen Situationen fhren (z.B. auf Treppen oder im Straenverkehr)!

Es gibt viele Faktoren, die den Blutdruck beeinflussen knnen. So wirken sichschwere krperliche Arbeit, Angst, Stress oder die Tageszeit der Messung sehrstark auf die gemessenen Werte aus. Die persnlichen Blutdruckwerte unter-liegen whrend des Tages und des Jahres groen Schwan kungen. Bei Hoch -druck patienten sind diese Schwan kun gen besonders stark ausgeprgt. Nor ma -l erweise ist der Blutdruck whrend krperlicher Anstrengung am hchsten undwhrend der Nacht im Schlaf am niedrigsten.

Messen Sie Ihren Blutdruck mehrfach, speichern Sie die Ergebnisse und ver-gleichen Sie diese dann miteinander. Ziehen Sie keine Rck schlsse auseinem einzigen Ergebnis.

Ihre Blutdruckwerte sollten immer von einem Arzt beurteilt werden, der auchmit Ihrer medizinischen Vor geschichte vertraut ist. Wenn Sie das Gert regel-mig benutzen und die Werte fr Ihren Arzt aufzeichnen, sollten Sie auchvon Zeit zu Zeit Ihren Arzt ber den Verlauf informieren.


5DE2 Wissenswertes / 3 Inbetriebnahme

Bedenken Sie bei den Blut druck messungen, dass die tglichen Werte vonvielen Faktoren abhngen. So beeinflussen Rau chen, Alko hol genuss, Medi ka -mente und kr per liche Arbeit die Messwerte in unterschiedlicher Weise.

Messen Sie Ihren Blutdruck vor den Mahlzeiten. Bevor Sie Ihren Blutdruck messen, sollten Sie sich mindestens 5 Minuten aus-

ruhen. Wenn Ihnen der systolische oder der diastolische Wert der Messung trotz

korrekter Hand habung des Gertes ungewhnlich erscheinen (zu hoch oderzu niedrig) und sich dies mehrmals wiederholt, dann informieren Sie IhrenArzt. Dies gilt auch, wenn in seltenen Fllen ein unregelmiger oder sehrschwacher Puls keine Messungen ermglicht.

Einlegen: ffnen Sie das Batterie fach an der Gerteunterseite mit einem leich-ten Druck gegen den Riegel, und legen Sie die vier mitgelieferten Batterien(Alkaline-Bat terien, Typ AA LR 6) ein. Ach ten Sie auf die Liegerichtung der Bat-terien (Ab bil dung im Batterie fach). Setzen Sie den Batteriefachdeckel wiederauf und drc ken Sie ihn an, so dass er hrbar einrastet.Entnehmen: Erscheint das Batterie symbol auf dem Display, setzen Sieneue Bat te rien ein. Nach dem Einlegen der Batterien zeigt das Display Datumund Zeit (voreingestellt) an. Stellen Sie nun Datum und Uhrzeit ein, wie unter3.3 Datum und Uhrzeit einstellen beschrieben. Beachten Sie, dass Sie nachjedem neuen Einsetzen der Batterien Datum und Uhrzeit neu einstellenmssen. Die bisherigen Messer gebnisse bleiben gespeichert.

Von Kindern fernhalten! Nicht wiederaufladbar! Nicht kurzschlieen! Nicht ins Feuer werfen!Es besteht Explosionsgefahr! Werfen Sie verbrauchte Batterien und Akkus nicht in den

Hausmll, sondern in den Sondermll oder in eine Batterie-Sammelstation im Fachhandel!

Alternativ knnen Sie das Gert auch mit einem speziellen Netzteil betreiben(MEDISANA Art.Nr. 51125), das Sie an den dafr vorgesehenen Anschluss an der Rckseite einstecken. Dabei verbleiben die Batterien im Gert. Durchdas Einstecken des Steckers an der Rckseite des Blutdruckmessgertes werdendie Batterien mechanisch abgeschaltet. Es ist daher erforderlich, zunchst dasNetzteil in die Steckdose zu stecken und dann mit dem Blutdruckmessgert zu ver-binden. Wird das Blutdruckmessgert nicht mehr genutzt, muss zunchst derStecker aus dem Blutdruckmessgert und dann das Netzteil aus der Steckdosegezogen werden. Dadurch verhindern Sie , dass Sie Datum und Uhrzeit jedesmalneu eingeben mssen.

3.3 Datum und Uhrzeit einstellen

1. Datum und Uhrzeit knnen Sie einstellen, wenn das Gert eingeschaltet ist( EIN/AUS Schalter in Position I ). Drcken Sie gleichzeitig die START-Taste und die MEM-Taste . Die blinkende Anzeige des Monatserscheint im Display. Um die Monatszahl zu ndern, bettigen Sie dieMEM-Taste so oft, bis die gewnschte Zahl erscheint. Wenn Sie dieMEM-Taste gedrckt halten, erscheinen die Zahlen im Schnelldurch-lauf. Drcken Sie die START-Taste weiter, blinken nacheinander die Zif-fern fr Monat, Tag, Stunde und Minute. Um die angezeigten Werte zundern, bettigen Sie jeweils die MEM-Taste .

2. Nachdem Sie die START-Taste das fnfte mal gedrckt haben, hrendie Zahlen im Display auf zu blinken. Die Zeiteinstellung ist abgeschlossen.

3. Wenn Sie die Batterien wechseln, mssen Sie Datum und Zeit neu ein-stellen.

Die Sprachfunktion knnen Sie einstellen, wenn das Gert eingeschaltet ist( EIN/AUS Schalter in Position I ), d.h. nur Datum und Uhrzeit anzeigt.Drcken und halten Sie die MEM-Taste , bis die Anzeige der eingestelltenSprache (z.B. L1) im Display erscheint.

Das Gert sagt die eingestellte Sprache an und wechselt, wenn Sie die MEM-Taste gedrckt halten, in Anzeige und Ansage zur nchstfolgendenSprache. Sie knnen die eingestellte Sprache ndern, indem Sie die MEM-Taste loslassen, sobald die von Ihnen gewnschte Sprache angezeigt bzw. ange-sagt wird. Die eingestellte Lautstrke, angezeigt durch den blinkenden Balken,lsst sich ndern, indem Sie die MEM-Taste erneut drcken und gedrckthalten, bis die gewnschte Lautstrke angezeigt wird - je hher der Balken,desto hher die Lautstrke. Lassen Sie die MEM-Taste los, um Ihre Auswahlzu besttigen. Der Balken hrt auf zu blinken, und das Display wechselt wiederin die Zeitanzeige.

Mit Hilfe des im Lieferumfang enthaltenen Halters lassen sich Manschette undSchlauch am Gert aufbewahren. Befestigen Sie zunchst das doppelseitigeKlebekissen an der Rckseite des Gertes und drcken Sie dann den Halterdarauf fest.

Ihr Gert ist mit einem Touch screen-Display ausgestattet. Achten Sie deshalbdarauf, dass der EIN/AUS Schalter sich immer in Position 0 befindet, wenndas Gert nicht in Gebrauch ist, damit durch versehentlichen Druck auf dasDisplay keine unbeabsichtigten Einstellungen vorgenommen werden knnen.

1. Stecken Sie vor Gebrauch das Endstck des Luftschlauches in die ffnungdes Gertes . Achten Sie darauf, dass der Schlauch keine Beschdigun-gen aufweist und fest sitzt. Das Blutdruckmessgert wird als Tischgertgenutzt.

2. Schieben Sie die offene Seite der Manschette so durch den Metallbgel,dass der Klettverschluss sich an der Auenseite befindet.

3. ffnen Sie die Manschette so, dass eine zylindrische Form entsteht.4. Schieben Sie die Manschette ber Ihren linken Oberarm. Platzieren Sie den

Luftschlauch auf der Armmitte in Verlngerung des Mittelfingers (a).5. Legen Sie den Arm mit der Handinnenflche nach oben auf den Tisch. Die

Unterkante der Manschette sollte dabei 1 - 2 cm oberhalb der Ellenbeugeliegen (b). Ziehen Sie die Manschette straff (c) und schlieen Sie die Klett-verbindung.

6. Vermeiden Sie einen Hohlraum zwischen Arm und Manschette. Er kann dasMessergebnis verflschen.

7. Messen Sie am nackten Oberarm. Achten Sie darauf, dass der Arm bei enganliegender Oberarmbekleidung durch das Hochkrempeln des rmels nichtabgeschnrt wird.

8. Nur wenn die Manschette nicht am linken Arm angelegt werden kann,legen Sie sie am rechten Arm an. Messungen sind stets am selben Armdurchzufhren.

Die richtige Position beim Messen im Sitzen

Fhren Sie die Messung im Sitzen durch. Entspannen Sie Ihren Arm und legen Sie ihn

locker auf, z.B. auf einem Tisch. Achten Sie darauf, dass die Manschette sich in

Hhe des Herzens befindet. Verhalten Sie sich whrend der Messung ruhig:

Bewegen Sie sich nicht und sprechen Sie nicht,da sich sonst die Messergebnisse verndern knnen.

Die richtige Position beim Messen im Liegen

In besonderen Fllen kann die Mes-sung auch im Liegen vorgenommenwerden.

Entspannen Sie sich auf demRcken liegend mindestens 5 Minu-ten und legen Sie Ihren Arm lockerauf.

Achten Sie darauf, dass die Manschette sich in Hhe des Herzens befindet.Von einander abweichende Hhen beeinflussen die Genauigkeit der Messung.

Verhalten Sie sich whrend der Messung ruhig: Bewegen Sie sich nicht undsprechen Sie nicht, da sich sonst die Messergebnisse verndern knnen.

1. Schalten Sie das Gert mit dem EIN/AUS Schalter ein ( Position I ) unddrcken Sie die START-Taste .

2. Wird die START-Taste gedrckt, ist ein Piepton zu hren und alleZeichen erscheinen im Display. Durch diesen Test wird die Vollstndigkeitder Anzeige berprft. Das Display zeigt die Werte der letzten Messung.Wenn die Sprachfunktion eingeschaltet ist, werden die Angaben in der ein-gestellten Sprache gemacht. Wurde noch keine Messung vorgenommen,erscheinen neben Uhrzeit und Datum nur Nullen.

3. Das Gert ist messbereit, es erscheint die Ziffer 0, bei eingestellter Sprach-funktion wird der Beginn der Messung angesagt. Automatisch pumpt esdie Manschette langsam auf, um Ihren Blutdruck zu messen. Whrend desAufpumpens ndert sich die Druckanzeige fortwhrend.

4. Das Gert pumpt die Manschette solange auf, bis ein fr die Messung aus-reichender Druck erreicht ist. Anschlieend lsst das Gert langsam die Luftaus der Manschette ab und fhrt die Messung durch.

5. Ist die Messung beendet, wird die Manschette entlftet. Der systolischeund der diastolische Blutdruck sowie der Puls-Wert mit dem Puls-Symbol

erscheinen im Display . Entsprechend der Blutdruckklassifikationnach der WHO (siehe S. 4) blinkt der Blutdruck-Indikator neben dendazugehrigen farbigen Balken. Bei eingestellter Sprachfunktion werdendie Messergebnisse in der eingestellten Sprache angesagt.

6. Die gemessenen Werte werden automatisch gespeichert. Im Speicherknnen bis zu 60 Messwerte mit Uhrzeit und Datum gespeichert werden.

Das Gert verfgt ber eine automatische Abschaltung. Wird keine Taste mehrgedrckt, schaltet sich das Gert nach einer Minute automatisch ab. Das Gertkann auch mit der START-Taste ausgeschaltet werden. Wenn das Gertnicht in Gebrauch ist, schalten Sie den EIN/AUS Schalter auf Position 0.Die Uhrzeit und das Datum werden kontinuierlich im Display angezeigt.

Sie knnen im Speicher Ihres Blutdruckmessgertes bis zu 60 Messungen(Blutdruck und Puls mit Uhrzeit und Datum) speichern. Die Messwerte werdenautomatisch gespeichert. Zum Abrufen der gespeicherten Messwerte drckenSie die MEM-Taste . Die gespeicherten Daten erscheinen in der Anzeige.Zunchst erscheint die Anzahl der belegten Speicherpltze. Dann werden dieWerte der zuletzt gespeicherten Messung einschlielich des blinkenden Blut-druck-Indikators angezeigt.Wenn die Sprachfunktion aktiviert ist, sagt das Gert die Speicherplatz-Nummer an, zusammen mit den gespeicherten Blutdruck- und Pulswerten undder Bewertung des Blutdrucks entsprechend der Skala der Richtlinien derWeltgesund heits organisation (siehe S. 4).Weiteres Drcken der MEM-Taste zeigt die jeweils vorherigen Messwerte.Sind Sie beim letzten Eintrag angelangt und drcken Sie keine Taste, schaltetsich das Gert im Speicherabruf-Modus nach ca. 120 Sekunden automatisch

Wenn Sie sich im Speicherabruf-Modus befinden, drcken und halten Sie dieMEM-Taste fr ca. 8 Sekunden. Nach einem Signalton werden alle ge-speicherten Messwerte automatisch gelscht. Im Display werden anstelle derMesswerte nur Nullen angezeigt.

Im Display erscheint das Batteriewechsel-Symbol Die Batterien sind zu schwach oder leer. Ersetzen Sie alle vier Batterien durch

neue 1,5 V Alkali-Batterien des Typs AA.Es werden auergewhnliche Messwerte angezeigt Die Manschette ist falsch angelegt oder nicht richtig festgezogen. Legen Sie

die Manschette richtig an und ziehen Sie sie fest. Sie haben sich oder das Gert whrend der Messung bewegt. Halten Sie sich

ruhig, bewegen Sie Ihren Arm und das Gert nicht. Sie haben unregelmigen Puls. Bei nur leichtem unregelmigem Puls wie-

derholen Sie die Messung. Fr Patienten mit starkem unregelmigem Pulsist das Gert nicht geeignet.

Sie haben whrend der Messung gesprochen, sind nervs oder aufgeregt.Sprechen Sie nicht und atmen Sie zwei- bis dreimal tief durch, um sich zuentspannen.

Sie haben nicht die korrekte Sitz- oder Liegeposition eingenommen. NehmenSie die richtige Position zum Messen ein.

Die Verbindung zum Luftschlauch ist unterbrochen oder die Schlauchverbin-dung ist nicht dicht. berprfen Sie den Anschluss zwischen Oberarmman-schette und Gert und, ob der Luftschlauch dicht ist. Wiederholen Sie dieMessung.

Im Display erscheint EE Das Gert hat nicht gengend aufgepumpt. Wiederholen Sie die Messung. Beim Aufpumpen oder whrend des Messvorgangs ist eine Strung aufge-

treten. Wiederholen Sie die Messung.Die Anzeige zeigt nichts an oder bleibt stehen Es sind keine Batterien eingelegt oder sie sind verkehrt eingelegt oder sie sind

vllig leer. Legen Sie Batterien ein, prfen Sie die Lage der Batterien oderersetzen Sie sie durch neue.

Es handelt sich um eine Fehlfunktion oder Betriebsstrung. Entnehmen Siefr eine Weile die Batterien und setzen Sie sie wieder ein.

Falls die Fehlermeldung bei erneuter Messung wieder auftritt, setzenSie sich bitte mit dem Servicecenter in Verbindung.

6.4 Richtlinien / Normen

Entfernen Sie die Batterien, bevor Sie das Gert reinigen. Verwenden Sie nie aggressive Reini gungsmittel oder starke Br sten. Reinigen Sie das Gert mit einem weichen Tuch, das Sie mit einer milden

Seifenlauge leicht befeuchten. Verwenden Sie keinesfalls scharfe Reinigungs-mittel oder Alkohol.

In das Gert darf kein Wasser eindringen. Benutzen Sie das Gert erstwieder, wenn es vllig trocken ist.

Nehmen Sie die Batterien aus dem Gert, wenn Sie es lngere Zeit nichtbenutzen mchten. Es besteht sonst die Gefahr, dass die Batterien auslaufen.

Setzen Sie das Gert nicht der direkten Sonneneinstrahlung aus, schtzen Siees vor Schmutz und Feuchtigkeit.

Pumpen Sie nur dann Luft in die Man schette, wenn sie um den Ober armgelegt ist.

Verstauen Sie das Gert am besten in der beim Kauf erworbenen Aufbe-wahrungstasche, und bewahren Sie es an einem sauberen und trockenenPlatz auf.

Messtechnische Kontrolle (gilt fr die gewerbliche Nutzung):Das Gert ist vom Hersteller fr die Dauer von zwei Jahren kalibriert. Diemesstechnische Kontrolle muss bei gewerblicher Nutzung sptestens allezwei Jahre erfolgen. Die Kontrolle ist kostenpflichtig und kann durch einezustndige Behrde oder durch autorisierte War tungs dienste entsprechendder Medi zin produkte-Betreiber Veror dnung erfolgen.

Dieses Gert darf nicht zusammen mit dem Hausmll entsorgt werden.Jeder Verbraucher ist verpflichtet, alle elektrischen oder elektronischenGerte, egal, ob sie Schadstoffe enthalten oder nicht, bei einer Sammelstelleseiner Stadt oder im Handel abzugeben, damit sie einer umweltschonendenEntsorgung zugefhrt werden knnen.Entnehmen Sie die Batterien, bevor Sie das Gert entsorgen. 1.1 Safety Information

The unit is only to be used for the specific purpose described in theseoperating instructions.

Any misuse will void the warranty. The unit is intended for domestic use only. On the rare occasion of a fault causing the cuff to remain fully inflated

during measurement, open the cuff immediately. Do not use the unit near to equipment emitting a strong electric or

magnetic field, such as radios. This may impair the correct functioning ofthe unit.

Do not let children operate the unit. Medical products are not toys! If a fault occurs, do not try to repair the unit yourself. Attempts to do so will

void the warranty. Refer all servicing to authorized service personnel. Protect the unit from moisture. Should moisture enter the unit, remove the

batteries and stop using it immediately. In this case, please contact eitheryour dealer or MEDISANA directly. You can find details of how to contactus on the address page.

Please be sure to include this instruction manual if the unit is passed on tothird parties.

Do not take any therapeutic measures based on your own measurements!Never change the quantity of medication prescribed by your doctor!

Irregularity of pulse or arrhythmia can lead to difficulties in recording acorrect reading when measurements are taken using oscillometric bloodpressure devices.

The unit may not be used to check the heart rate of patients with apacemaker.

Pregnant patients should take their own personal state of health intoconsideration and take all necessary precautions before using the unit. If indoubt, consult your doctor.

Should you experience discomfort or other complaints during measurement,for example pain in the upper arm, please take the following action: Press theSTART button to deflate the cuff immediately. Loosen the cuff andremove it from your arm. Please contact either your dealer or MEDISANAdirectly.

Patients with a weak pulse wave should raise their arm and open and closetheir hand around 10 times before taking a reading. This exercise optimizesthe pulse wave and the measuring process.

Blood pressure is the pressure created in the blood vessels by each heart beat.When the heart contracts (= systole) and pumps blood into the arteries, itbrings about a rise in pressure. The highest value is known as the systolic pres-sure and is the first value to be measured.When the cardiac muscle relaxes to take in fresh blood, the pressure in thearteries also falls. Once the arteries are relaxed, a second reading is taken thediastolic pressure.

The MTD is a blood pressure computer which is used to measure bloodpressure at the upper arm. The measurement is carried out by a micropro-cessor, which, via a pressure sensor, measures fluctuations in pressure resultingfrom the inflation and deflation of the cuff over the artery.

MEDISANA has had many years of experience in the field of blood pressuremeasurement. The high precision of MEDISANA devices has been confirmedby clinical tests, carried out according to international standards. One strongargument in favour of taking blood pressure at home is the fact that thereadings are taken in familiar surroundings under relaxed conditions. The mostimportant reading is the socalled baseline value, the one taken beforebreakfast, directly after getting up in the morning. As far as it is possible, youshould always try to take your blood pressure at the same time and under thesame conditions each day.This ensures comparable results and helps in detecting the first signs of highblood pressure. If high blood pressure remains undetected, it increases the riskof further cardiovascular diseases.

The following table shows the classification of high and low blood pressure,without taking age into consideration. This blood pressure assessment scalecorresponds to the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Blood pressure that is too low represents just as great a health risk as blood pressure that is too high! Fits of dizziness may lead to dangerous situations arising (e.g. on stairs or in traffic)!

There are many factors that can influence blood pressure. Readings can beaffected by stress, fear, heavy physical exertion or the time of day at which theyare taken. Your personal blood pressure values are subject to considerablefluctuation during the course of the day and the year. These fluctuations areparticularly pronounced in the case of patients suffering from hypertension.Blood pressure is usually at its highest during physical exertion and at its lowestat night when asleep.

Measure your blood pressure several times, then record and compare theresults. Do not draw any conclusions from a single reading.

Your blood pressure readings should always be evaluated by a doctor who isalso familiar with your personal medical history. When using the unitregularly and recording the values for your doctor, you should visit thedoctor from time to time to keep him updated.

When taking readings, remember that the daily values are influenced byseveral factors. Smoking, consumption of alcohol, drugs and physicalexertion influence the measured values in various ways.

Measure your blood pressure before meals. Before taking readings, allow yourself at least five minutes rest. If the systolic and diastolic readings seem unusual (too high or too low) on

several occasions, despite correct use of the unit, please inform your doctor.This also applies to the rare occasions when an irregular or very weak pulseprevents you from taking readings.

Insertion: Open the battery compartment on the underside of the unit byexerting gentle pressure, and insert the four batteries included with the unit(alkaline batteries, AA type, LR 6). Remember to insert the batteries as indi-cated in the diagram in the battery compartment. Replace the lid, pressing ituntil it snaps into place.Removal: When the battery symbol appears in the display, please re-place the batteries with new ones.After batteries be inserted, the display will display the defaulted date & time.Set the date and time as described in 3.3 Set Date and Time. Please note thatthe date and time will have to be reset each time new batteries are inserted.The previous measuring results are saved.

WARNINGBATTERY SAFETY INFORMATION

Keep away from children! Do not recharge! Do not short-circuit! Do not throw into fire!There is a danger of explosion! Do not dispose of old batteries with your household waste,

but dispose of them at a battery collection station at a recycling site or in a shop!

Alternatively, the unit may also be operated with a special power adapter(MEDISANA item no. 51125), which is plugged into the connector providedat the back of the unit. In this case the batteries remain in the unit. The batte-ries are disconnected mechanically when the connector is inserted into theback of the blood pressure monitor. It is necessary, therefore, to plug the mainsadaptor into the mains socket first of all and then to connect it to the bloodpressure monitor. If the blood pressure monitor is no longer being used, firstremove the connector from the blood pressure monitor and then pull the mainsadaptor out of the mains socket. Doing this means that the date and time willnot have to be reset each time.

1. The date and time can be set with the device switched on ( ON/OFF switch in I position ). Press the START button and the MEM button simultaneously. The month appears on the display (flashing). To change themonth, press the MEM button repeatedly until the required value isdisplayed. The value auto-repeats if the MEM button is held down.Pressing the START button again displays the values for month, day,hour and minute (flashing). Press the MEM button to change thevalues.

2. After the fifth press of the START button the numbers in the displaystop flashing. The time setting is now complete.

3. The date and time must be reset if the batteries are replaced.

The voice function can be adjusted with the device switched on ( ON/OFFswitch in I position ), i.e. with just the date and time displayed. Press andhold down the MEM button until the selected language appears on the dis-play (e.g. L1).

The device speaks the language setting, and changes the display and the an-nouncement to the next language if the MEM button is held down. Theselected language can be changed by releasing the MEM button as soonas the language that you require is displayed or spoken. The selected volume,which is indicated by flashing bars, can be modified by pressing the MEMbutton again and holding it down until the required volume is indicated the higher the bar, the louder the volume. Release the MEM button toconfirm your selection. The bar stops flashing and the display switches back tothe time display.

Using the holder included with the unit you will store the arm cuff and the airhose together with the device. First attach the adhesive pad to the rear side ofthe unit, then fix the holder on it firmly.

Your device has a touch screen as an equipment. Be careful not to touch thedisplay by mistake. Keep the ON/OFF switch in 0 position when the deviceis not in use to avoid unintentional adjustments.

1. Push the end piece of the air tube into the hole on the unit prior to use.Ensure that the hose is not damaged and is securely attached. The bloodpressure monitor is intended for use as a table-top unit.

2. Slide the open end of the cuff through the metal bracket so that the Velcrofastener is on the outside.

3. Open the cuff so as to create a cylindrical shape.4. Slide the cuff over your left upper arm. Position the air hose in the midd-

le of your arm in line with your middle finger (a).5. Place your arm on the table with the palm uppermost. The lower edge of

the cuff should be 1 - 2 cm above the crease of the elbow (b). Pull the cufftight (c) and close the Velcro fastener.

6. Avoid creating a space between arm and cuff. It may falsify the measuredresult.

7. Measure the pulse on your bare arm. If wearing tight clothing, ensure thatthe circulation in the arm is not impaired when rolling up the sleeve.

8. Only position the cuff on the right arm if it cannot be used on the left arm.Always carry out measurements on the same arm.

The Correct Measuring Position when sitting

Carry out the measurement whilst seated. Relax your arm and place it comfortably, on a

table for instance. Ensure that the cuff is at heart height. Keep still during the measurement: do not move

and do not talk as this may alter the measure-ments.

Correct position for taking measurements lying down

In special cases the measurementcan also be taken lying down.

Lie on your back and relax for atleast 5 minutes and also relax yourarm.

Ensure that the cuff is at heartheight. Differing heights affect the accuracy of the measurement.

Keep still during the measurement: do not move and do not talk as this mayalter the measurements.

1. Switch the unit on by using first the ON/OFF switch ( I position) andthen pressing the START button .

2. If the START button is pressed, a beep is heard and all displaycharacters are shown (display test). This test can be used to check that thedisplay is indicating properly and in full. The display shows the values fromthe previous measurement. Information will be given in the language set ifthe language function is switched on. If no measurement has been taken,zeroes will appear next to the date and time.

3. The unit is ready for measurement, the number 0 is displayed, the start ofmeasurement will be announced if the language function is switched on.It automatically inflates the cuff slowly in order to measure your blood pres-sure. The pressure on the display changes continuously during the time itcontinues to inflate.

4. The unit inflates the cuff until sufficient pressure has built up for a measu-rement. Then the unit slowly releases air from the cuff and carries out themeasurement.

5. When the measurement is finished, the cuff is deflated completely. Thesystolic and diastolic blood pressure and the pulse value with the pulsesymbol appear on the display . The blood pressure indicator flashes next to the relevant coloured bar depending on the WHO bloodpressure classification (see page 16). The measured results will be an-nounced in the language set if the language function is switched on.

6. The measured values are stored automatically. Up to 60 measured valueswith date and time may be stored in the memory.

The unit has an automatic switch-off function. The unit switches off automati-cally after a minute if no buttons are pressed. The unit may also be switchedoff using the START button . When the device is not in use switch theON/OFF switch in 0 position.The time and the date are constantly shown in the display.

The memory of your blood pressure monitor will hold up to 60 measurements(blood pressure and pulse with time and date). Press the MEM button tocall up the saved measured values. The saved data will appear on the display.Initially the number of memory locations occupied will appear then the valuesof the most recently saved measurement including the flashing blood pressureindicator will be displayed. If the voice function has been activated, the device speaks the memorylocation number, together with the saved blood pressure and pulse values andthe blood pressure assessment as per the scale in the World Health Organisa-tion guidelines (see pg. 16).

Repeatedly pressing the MEM button displays the respective valuesmeasured previously. In memory recall mode, the unit will switch off auto-matically after approx. 120 seconds if the last entry has been reached and nobutton is pressed. Memory recall mode can be exited at any time by pressingthe START button , which will also switch the unit off.If all 60 memory locations in the memory are occupied, a new measured valueis saved whilst the oldest value is deleted.

If you are in memory recall mode, press and hold the MEM button forapproximately 8 seconds. All measured data stored will be deleted automati-cally after three beeps. Only noughts will be shown on the display instead ofthe measured values.

The battery change symbol appears in the display The batteries are too low or empty. Replace all four batteries with new 1.5 V

alkali AA batteries.Erratic measurements being displayed Cuff incorrectly fitted or not tight enough. Fit cuff correctly and tighten. You have changed position or the cuff has moved during the measurement.

Keep still and do not move your arm or the cuff. You have an irregular heartbeat. Even if your heartbeat is only slightly

irregular, repeat the measurement. The unit is not suitable for people withan extremely irregular heartbeat.

You have spoken during the measurement, you are nervous or you areexcited. Do not speak and breathe deeply two or three times in order torelax.

You are not in the corrected seated or lying position. Please assume thecorrect position when taking the measurement.

The air hose is not connected or leaking. Check the connection between theupper arm cuff and the unit and check the air hose for leaks. Repeat themeasurement.

EE appears in the display The unit has not been inflated enough. Repeat the measurement A problem occurred during inflation or during the measurement. Repeat the

measurement. No display or display locked No batteries have been inserted, batteries wrongly inserted or batteries are

completely empty. Insert batteries, check battery position or replace withnew batteries.

A malfunction or fault has occurred. Briefly remove the batteries and thenreplace them.

Please contact the service centre if the error message appears againwhen the measurement is repeated.

Remove the batteries before cleaning the unit. Never use strong detergents or hard brushes. Clean the unit using a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild soapy

solution. Never use abrasive cleaning agents or alcohol. Do not allow any water to get into the unit. Do not use the unit again until

it is completely dry. Remove the batteries from the unit if you do not wish to use it for an

extended period of time, otherwise there is a risk of battery leakage. Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight, and protect it from dust and

moisture. Only inflate the cuff when it is in position around the upper arm. The unit is best kept in the storage pouch included in your purchase and

should preferably be stored in a clean dry place. Servicing and calibration (applies to commercial use):

The unit has been calibrated by the manufacturer for a period of two yearsuse. In the case of commercial use, the unit must be serviced and recali-brated at least once every two years. This calibration will be charged for and can be carried out by an appropriate authority or an authorised servicecentre - in accordance with the regulations for users of medical equipment.

This product must not be disposed together with the domestic waste.All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardlessof whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commer-cial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentallyacceptable manner.Please remove the batteries before disposing of the equipment. Do not dispo-se of old batteries with your household waste, but dispose of them at a batterycollection station at a recycling site or in a shop.Consult your municipal authority or your dealer for information about disposal.

7.1Warranty andrepair terms

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under thewarranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of yourreceipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date ofpurchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to beproven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.

2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of chargewithin the warranty period.

3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for theunit or for the replacement parts.

4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. non-observance of the user instructions.

b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer orunauthorised third parties.

c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer tothe consumer or during transport to the service centre.

Le MTD est un tensiomtre destin mesurer la tension au niveau du bras. Lamesure est ici ralise par un microprocesseur qui, au moyen d'un capteur depression, analyse les variations de tension gnres dans les artres par legonflage et dgonflage du brassard.

Mesurez votre tension quotidiennement et rgulirement, mme si vous vous sentez bien.

Le tableau ci-dessous prsente des valeurs indicatives de tension leve etfaible sans considration de l'ge. Cette chelle de classification est conformeaux directives de lOrganisation mondiale de la sant (OMS).

AVERTISSEMENT

Une pression sanguine trop basse est aussi dangereuse pour la sant quune pression trop leve. Les vertiges peuvent entraner des situations dangereuses (par ex. dans les escaliers ou en voiture) !

La tension est influence par de nombreux facteurs, ainsi, un travailphysiquement prouvant, l'anxit, le stress, mais aussi l'heure de la journepeuvent fortement modifier les valeurs mesures. Les valeurs de tensionpersonnelles varient galement durant la journe et l'anne. Les sujetshypertendus sont particulirement exposs ces variations. Normalement, latension atteint sa valeur maximale durant des activits physiques intenses et savaleur minimale la nuit durant le sommeil.

Effectuez plusieurs mesures de votre tension, mmorisez les rsultats etcomparez-les ensuite. Ne tirez jamais de conclusions partir d'un seulrsultat.

Les valeurs de votre pression sanguine doivent toujours tre values par unmdecin inform de vos antcdents mdicaux. Si vous utilisez l'appareilrgulirement et enregistrez les valeurs pour votre mdecin, il faut aussi detemps en temps informer votre mdecin du droulement.

tabac, d'alcool, la prise de mdicaments et les activits physiques influencentles valeurs de mesure de manire diffrente.

Mesurez votre tension avant les repas. Avant de mesurer votre tension, reposez-vous au moins 5 minutes. Si la valeur systolique ou diastolique mesure semble anormale (trop forte ou

trop faible) malgr une manipulation correcte de l'appareil et que ceci sereproduit plusieurs fois, veuillez informer votre mdecin. Il en est de mmesi parfois un pouls irrgulier ou trop faible ne permet pas d'effectuer lamesure.

Insrer: ouvrez le compartiment pile sur la face infrieure de l'appareil enappuyant lgrement contre le cran et insrez les quatre piles fournies (pilesalcalines, type AA LR 6). Vrifiez la polarit des piles (reprsente au fond ducompartiment). Replacez le couvercle et poussez-le jusqu'au dclic.Changer: lorsque le symbole des piles est affich sur l'cran, vous devezchanger les piles. Aprs la mise en place des piles, lcran indique la date etlheure (prconfigurs). Rglez alors la date et lheure, tel que dcrit sous 3.3Rgler la date et lheure. Attention : La date et lheure doivent tre rgles chaque nouvelle installation des piles. Les mesures effectues jusqualorsrestent enregistres.

AVERTISSEMENTINSTRUCTIONS DE SECURITE RELATIVES AUX PILES:

Tenir lcart des enfants! Piles non rechargeables! Ne pas court-circuiter! Ne pas jeter au feu!Risque dexplosion ! Ne mettez pas les piles et les accus usags la poubelle,

placez-les avec les dchets spciaux ou dposez-les dans un point de collecte des piles usages dans les commerces spcialiss!

Il est galement possible d'utiliser l'appareil avec un bloc d'alimentationspcial (MEDISANA N d'art. 51125) qui doit tre branch au connecteur prvu cet effet sur la face arrire de l'appareil. Les piles doivent rester danslappareil. Le branchement du connecteur sur la face arrire du tensiomtredsactive automatiquement les piles. Cest pourquoi il est ncessaire de rac-corder le bloc dalimentation dabord au secteur et ensuite lappareil. Aprslutilisation du tensiomtre, il faut dabord tirer le connecteur de lappareil etensuite dbrancher le bloc dalimentation du secteur. Cela vous vitera dergler la date et lheure chaque mise sous tension.

1. Vous pouvez rgler la date et lheure lorsque lappareil est allum(commutateur MARCHE/ARRT en position I ). Appuyez simultan-ment sur la touche START et la touche MEM. Laffichage du moisse met clignoter lcran. Pour rgler le mois, appuyez aussi souvent quencessaire sur la touche MEM jusqu ce que le nombre souhaitsaffiche. Si vous maintenez la touche MEM enfonce, les nombres sesuccdent en acclr. Si vous continuez dappuyer sur la touche START, les nombres pour le mois, le jour et les minutes clignotent les uns aprsles autres. Pour modifier le nombre affich, appuyez, dans chaque cas, surla touche MEM.

2. Aprs avoir appuyer cinq fois sur la touche START, les nombres cessentde clignoter lcran. Le rglage est termin.

3. La date et lheure doivent tre rgles chaque nouvelle installation despiles.

Vous pouvez rgler la fonction langage lorsque lappareil est allum (commu-tateur MARCHE/ARRT en position I ), cest--dire quil affiche unique-ment la date et lheure. Appuyez sur la touche MEM et maintenez-la enfon-ce jusqu ce que la langue souhaite (par ex. L 1) saffiche.

Lappareil annonce la langue rgle. Vous pouvez passer la langue suivante,au niveau de laffichage et de lannonce, en appuyant sur la touche MEM.Vous pouvez changer la langue rgle en appuyant sur la touche MEM eten la relchant ds que la langue souhaite saffiche ou est annonce. Linten-sit du volume est indique par des barres et peut tre modifie en appuyantsur la touche MEM et en la maintenant enfonce jusqu obtenir lintensitsouhaite. Plus le nombre de barres est important plus le volume est lev.Relchez la touche MEM pour confirmer votre choix. La barre cesse declignoter et lcran indique nouveau lheure.

A laide du support contenu dans la livraison, vous pouvez conserver lebrassard et le flexible sur lappareil. Dans un premier temps, fixez le coussinadhsif double face au dos de lappareil et appuyez ensuite le support dessus.

Lappareil est quip dun cran effleurement. Vous devez donc veiller ceque le commutateur MARCHE/ARRT se trouve toujours en position 0lorsque lappareil nest pas utilis, afin quaucun rglage ne soit effectu parinadvertance en raison dune pression involontaire sur lcran.

1. Insrez lextrmit du tuyau dans lorifice du tensiomtre. Vrifiez bienque le tuyau est en parfait tat et correctement embot. Le tensiomtrepeut tre utilis, pos sur la table.

2. Faites glisser le ct libre du brassard travers lanneau en mtal demanire ce que la bande velcro se trouve sur la face extrieure.

3. Ouvrez le brassard de manire former un cylindre. 4. Placez le brassard sur votre bras gauche. Positionnez le tuyau au le

milieu du bras, dans le prolongement du majeur (a). 5. Posez votre bras sur la table de manire ce que la paume de la main soit

dirige vers le haut. Le bord infrieur du brassard doit tre plac 1 2 cmau dessus du coude (b). Serrez le brassard (c) et fermez-le laide labande velcro.

6. Veillez ne pas laisser despace entre le bras et le brassard. Cela pourraitfausser la mesure.

7. Pour la mesure, le brassard doit tre en contact immdiat avec le bras.Veillez ce le bras ne soit pas compress si vous avez remont la manchede votre vtement.

8. Posez le brassard sur le bras droit uniquement si ce nest pas possible surle bras gauche. Effectuez les mesures toujours sur le mme bras.

Position assise correcte

Effectuer la mesure en position assise. Dcontractez le bras et posez-le par exemple sur

une table. Veillez ce que le brassard se trouve la mme

hauteur que le cur. Restez tranquille durant la mesure: ne bougez

pas et ne parlez pas, ceci pouvant fausser lesrsultats de la mesure.

Position allonge correcte

Dans certains cas, il est possibledeffectuer la mesure en positionallonge.

Allongez-vous sur le dos et dcon-tractez-vous pendant au moins 5minutes et posez vos bras relch sur le sol.

Veillez ce que le brassard se trouve la mme hauteur que le cur. Unediffrence de niveau peut avoir des rpercussions sur lexactitude de lamesure.

Restez calme et immobile pendant la mesure : le fait de parler ou de bougerpeut fausser la mesure.

1. Allumez lappareil laide du commutateur MARCHE/ARRT ( positionI ) et appuyez sur la touche START.

2. Lorsque vous appuyez sur la touche START, un signal sonore retentitet tous les signes apparaissent lcran. Ce test permet de vrifier le bonfonctionnement de laffichage. Les valeurs de la dernire mesure saffi-chent lcran. Lorsque la fonction langue est active, les valeurs sontdonnes dans la langue rgle. Si aucune mesure na encore t effectue,des zros saffichent ct de lheure et de la date.

3. Lorsque lappareil est prt la mesure, le chiffre 0, apparat ; lorsque lafonction langue est active, le dbut de la mesure est annonc. Le brassardse gonfle lentement et automatiquement pour prendre la tension.Laffichage change constamment pendant le gonflage.

4. Lappareil gonfle le brassard jusqu ce que la pression ncessaire lamesure soit atteinte. Ensuite, lappareil laisse le brassard se dgonflerprogressivement et effectue la mesure.

5. Lorsque la mesure est termine, le brassard se dgonfle totalement. Lestensions systolique et diastolique de mme que le pouls, symbolis parle signe , saffichent lcran . Lindicateur de la tension clignote ct des barres colores conformment lchelle de classification destensions dfinie par lOMS (voir p. 28). Lorsque la fonction langue estactive, les rsultats sont annoncs dans la langue slectionne.

6. Les valeurs mesures sont enregistres automatiquement. La mmoire per-met denregistrer jusqu 60 valeurs avec lheure et la date.

Lappareil dispose dune fonction de mise larrt automatique. Si aucunetouche nest actionne pendant 1 minute, lappareil sarrte automatiquement.La touche START permet galement dteindre lappareil. Si vous nutilisezpas lappareil, rglez le commutateur MARCHE/ARRT sur la position 0.Lheure et la date restent affiches en permanence.

Vous pouvez enregistrer jusqu 60 mesures dans la mmoire de votre ten-siomtre (la tension ainsi que le pouls avec lheure et la date). Les valeursmesures sont enregistres automatiquement. Pour consulter les valeurs enre-gistres, appuyez sur la touche MEM. Les valeurs enregistres saffichent lcran. Le nombre de valeurs enregistres apparat en premier. Ensuite, lesvaleurs de la dernire mesure enregistre saffichent et lindicateur de la tensi-on clignote.Si la fonction langue est active, lappareil annonce la position occupe dans lammoire, les valeurs de la tension et le pouls ainsi que la catgorie de latension conformment lchelle de classification dfinie par les directives delOrganisation mondiale de la sant (voir p. 28).Une pression supplmentaire sur la touche MEM permet dafficher lesvaleurs mesures prcdentes. Lorsque la dernire entre est affiche, si vousnappuyez aucune touche, lappareil en mode de consultation de la mmoiresteint automatiquement au bout denviron 120 secondes. Vous pouvez quit-
