    Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to bring you the premier edition of the Tennessee Professional Education & Resource Guide. The fi rst issue of the PERG came out in North Carolina, my home state, in January 2006 and was an instant success. It’s been a real community builder here, and I hope it will be in Tennessee, too.

I’ve been a member of the professional community of massage therapists and bodyworkers since 1975- more than 30 years. How did I fi nd my way to this profession? In the same way so many of us have- I had a massage, and it changed me- for the better. Then I had another. And another. You know the rest of the tale-

In those 30-plus years, I have looked forward every day to the practice of my profession. In moments of refl ection, what wells up is awe and gratitude that I somehow managed to get myself on this path and consequently became a member of a community of people who have tremendous heart, who, in all their struggles to be accepted by the community of mainstream health professionals, have never wavered from their conviction that touch is the great healer. Our collegial connection is not about the modality we use; it’s about our willingness to be with that client who shows up in our practice- to care, to be patient, to be present, to touch competently, and to be in process ourselves.

Historically, the massage and bodywork profession has defi ned the cutting edge of the healing arts. Being a proud part of that ongoing evolution is both a joy and a challenge. To that end, I hope you will have a satisfying Fall exploring the cornucopia of educational opportunities available to you within these pages or through other prestigious venues.

    With warm regard,

    Nancy Toner Weinberger, Publisher

    About the PERG

The Professional Education & Resource Guide Guide is an easy reference for continuing education opportunities for massage therapists and bodyworkers.

The PERG offers a variety of ways to select courses that meet your continuing education needs. • Browse the pages of advertisements to discover opportunities to enhance your skills and explore new and exciting theories and approaches. • Find courses in a location near you offered as part of a continuing education program designed to meet the needs of the professional community. • Look up the dates you are available to take classes in the index at the back of the guide and choose from among those listings.

The PERG is published twice per year; look for the Spring issue in January and the Fall issue in July.

The PERG is mailed free of charge to licensed massage therapists and bodyworkers, so keep your address up to date with your state massage board to ensure you receive each and every copy. There are six editions of the PERG:

North Carolina South Carolina Chesapeake (Maryland, Washington DC, and areas of Virginia surrounding Washington DC) The Virginias (all of Virginia except the Washington DC area, and West Virginia). Tennessee Georgia

For your convenience, you can download all the current editions of the Professional Education & Resource Guide in PDF format at www.ProEdResourceGuide.com (high-speed access needed).

An Intro To Belly MassageWorking in the abdomen is one of those areas which most

body workers have the least amount of experience and training. However a properly trained bodyworker though

precise palpation of organs, support structures and treatment techniques can greatly improve a client’s reproductive,

    digestive and overall health.

This six level (two days each level) certification program is founded on the fact that Nature has provided the tools to assist us in maintaining robust health or regaining good health once it has been jeopardized. The first level of defense and healing is our own internal pharmacy. The second level is the use of plants to assist us in this job. Come learn to safely and effectively use some the Nature’s most powerful tools, Essential Oils. Join us on this journey, the rediscovery of an ancient healing modality.

    the ORIGINAL Indian Head Massaget r a i n i n g c o u r s e

Indian Champissage™ has been popular in India for over a thousand years. The head, neck, shoulders and upper back—areas where tension is more likely to accumulate—are gently, firmly and rhythmically massaged until the pressure simply melts away. This unique therapy combines physical and subtle massage with energy balancing to produce feelings of perfect peace and tranquility. It is a wonderful alternative to seated chair massage.

A new course series teaching hands-on work devoted to mastery of touch that reaches the mind, thus generating lasting changes in health and well-being.

There is one place, and one place only, that we experience our physical existence: our body. Every experience we have is filtered through our senses which dance upon the landscape of our body. Every thought, every belief, is based upon what we have experienced in that sacred space. As bodyworkers, touch and movement are the two tools we have to reach the body, and deeper, the mind, where we can help to create a milieu for healing to occur.

In this hands-on experiential class you will learn to: •Workeffectivelywithmovementatthetablethrough feeding proprioceptivity •Workintuitively-developlisteninghands • Letgoofprotocolandperceivetheneedsofthe tissue directly • Clearaway“shoulds,”findingauthenticacceptance and thus enhancing your client’s natural healing process
