Project Planner for 4 points.

You will work on the following project . (May 2012 – October 2012). You may work in groups up to four students. By the31st of October the final draft of your project must be graded according to the rubrics (see the last page of the template) and presented to the class.

Your final grade will consist of:

a) Written Presentation – 60% b) Oral Presentation – 20% c) Working File and Timing – 20 %

PROJECT OUTLINE

Step 1: Choose a topic and decide what you want to find out. Choose the team to work with. Group Discussion. (05.05.12)

Think about a subject you would like to explore. Find partners you would like to work with. Discuss the following questions: What do you know about the subject? What interests you in the subject? What do you want to learn about the subject? Fill out Appendix 1 individually.

Step 2: Collecting Resources. Group Work. (till 20.06.12)

You may use different resources of information, such as books, magazines, newspapers, encyclopedias, Internet and people (interviews).Remember: You must use at least 4 sources of information.

Step 3: Processing Your Information. Group Work. (12-14.10.10)

When you find an article, you want to see quickly if it’s useful. You don’t have time to read it all.

Skim the article, reading only the first lines of the first four or five paragraphs. Skimming helps you know if the article is relevant to the topic you have chosen.

Scan the article for names of people, places, numbers. Are they important?

As soon as you find useful information in a source, print or photocopy it. Don’t forget to write down the necessary information in your bibliography. (See Appendix 2).

All the resources you use must be kept in the working file! Highlight paragraphs or sentences that contain the ideas or

information you would use in your project. Then, summarize the articles in clear and complete sentences. Don’t copy the text from the article, don’t use a “copy – paste technique”. That’s plagiarism, which is easily followed and penalized. Use your own words. Include only the most important information in your summary. Make it brief.

When you find a sentence that you want to use just as it is in your paper, you can add it as a quote, i.e. place quotation marks (“ “) around the sentence, write the author’s name and the information about the publication (see Appendix 2) in brackets.

All the summaries must be kept in the working file! Collect and keep pictures, maps, graphs you would like to

illustrate your project with.

Step 4: Write your draft paper of the project. (23.09.12) Group and individual work.

Write an outline (a general plan) of your paper. Fill out Appendix 3.

Remember, every team member should be responsible for one chapter in the body. So, if three students do the research, the paper must contain three chapters.

The Introduction and the Summary are written in cooperation by all group members.

Write the first draft of the paper following your outline. It is recommended to start with the body (research) and then write the introduction and the summary.

After finishing your first draft read your paper together, make sure you have followed your outline.

Edit your paper for punctuation, spelling and grammar mistakes. Fill in the Check-List for Editing (Appendix 4)

Revise your paper. the Check-List for Revising(Appendix 5). That will help you improve your writing.

Add bibliography. Hand your draft in to your teacher for comments and

corrections. (23.09.12)

Step 5: Organize your final paper. Group and individual work. (Submit on 15.10.12)

Correct your draft according to your teacher’s comments and

write the final copy. Each student answers the reflection questions individually. (See

Appendix 6)

Your written paper should contain the following : Cover Page. The cover page must have: a) Title of Paper b) Your Names c) Teacher’s Name d) School e) Date Table of Contents. The table of Contents lists the pages

of each section of the paper, including the bibliography, the reflection pages.

Written Paper. Don’t forget to add illustrations, such as pictures, charts and graphs that make your paper more attractive.

Bibliography. Reflection. The reflection page must be written

individually and signed by every student. Working File. Your working file must include: a) articles and other information resources

b) summaries and draftsc) appendicesd) check-listse) rubrics

Before submitting your paper, fill in the Self-Assessment checklist (Appendix 7).

Step 6: Prepare Oral Presentation. Group Work.

You will have to tell the class about your project. In your oral presentation, you will

state the purpose of your project report on the information you found use visual or audio aids where possible summarize what you learned from the topic and from doing the

project.

It may be helpful to prepare note cards writing short sentences or phrases to remind you of what to say and in what order to say it. It is not easy to speak in front of your classmates, especially in English. So, practice your oral presentation by talking in front of your team or to your friend.Use Checklist for Oral Presentation (Appendix 8) to make sure you are ready to present your project to the class.

Oral Presentations will be made on 28.10.12 -31.10.12
