Check valves help prevent unwanted flows or draining of pipelines. Furthermore, they are installed in pipelines in which several substances are mixed. A check valve is installed in every component line to prevent penetration of another component. Check valves are preferably installed vertically on the pumps pressure side. This prevents a drop in the fluid level or draining of system parts located higher up when the pump is switched off/fails. To reduce noise formation, a certain distance should be kept from the pump so that the flow into the line is as laminar as possible.

When at rest (i.e. the pressure on either side ofthe valve plate is the same), the valve plate ispressed into the valve seat by spring force. Thevalve is closed.

If, for example, pumps are switched on and thepressure difference on either side of the valveincreases beyond the opening pressure value, the spring force is overcome and the valve plateis moved out of the valve seat. The product can flow in the specified direction. The valve is open.

If the pressure difference on either side of thevalve plate drops below the opening pressurevalue, the valve plate is pressed by spring forceinto the valve seat.

The same occurs if the pressure after the valveplate is larger than the pressure in front of thevalve plate (e.g. static pressure of the liquidcolumn on the valve seat, as in a riser or tank).

    8.1 Disassembly from the System

When disassembling the non-return valve in the system, proceed as follows:1. Switch off the pressure in the piping system.2. Drain the piping system. Note the direction of fl ow in the valve!3. Loosen the wing bolt on the clamp bracket (item 9).4. Caution! When the housing (item 1) is removed from the pipeline, the spring guide (item 5) may spring out of its seat together with the spring (item 7).

    27

    8. Assembly / Disassembly

HAZARDWhen the housing is opened, medium above the valve plate may escape. There isa risk of burning if fl ow media have temperatures over 60C.

    5. Remove the valve plate (item 3) with the O-ring (item 4) from the housing (item 1).

HAZARDBefore cleaning, maintenance and repair work is carried out, the following shutdown procedure must always be completed.

    1. Switch off power to higher-level plant/machine/device.

    2. Cut off medium- Check that the non-return valve is non-pressurised.- Note that if the media temperatures exceed 60C, a cooling off phase must be observed.

Failure to do so could endanger the life and health of personnel.

8.2 Assembly with Valve Plate Replacement

See Pic. 7-11. Check the seal ring (item 4) in the valve plate (item 3) for damage.2. When replacing the seal ring, press it diagonally and evenly into the seat. Moisten the sealing ring with fl ushing medium to make assembly easier.3. Clean the installation space and individual parts and check for any damage.4. Place the valve plate (item 3) in the housing (item 1). Make sure that the valve plate fi ts properly into the sealing seat.5. Position the spring (item 7) on the valve plates spigot.

NOTEProceed carefully and meticulously to avoid damage.

    9. Maintenance / Cleaning

To clean the product when installed, simply wash the surfaces that come into contact with media (CIP-cleaning).

Cleaning agents: 3% nitric acid max. 60C 3% caustic soda max. 80C

Make sure to- Use only clean and chlorine-free water.- Dose carefully and avoid overly strong concentrations of cleaning agent.- Rinse with plenty of clean water after cleaning.

CAUTIONStore the cleaning agents in accordance with the relevant safety guidelines.

When handling cleaning agents, follow the safety instructions on the cleaningagent manufacturers data sheet.

Always wear rubber gloves and protective goggles when cleaning.

Make sure not to touch the non-return valve or pipeline when processing warmmedia or during the sterilisation process.

HAZARDBefore cleaning, maintenance and repair work is carried out, the following shutdown procedure must always be completed.

    1. Switch off power to higher-level plant / machine / device.

    2. Cut off medium- Check that the non-return valve is non-pressurised.- Note that if the media temperatures exceed 60C, a cooling off phase must be observed.

Failure to do so could endanger the life and health of personnel.
