I am always proud of my school. I was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN from 1993 to 2002. Although it was quite a stretch for a Vandy Guy to pull for the Big Orange, I became caught up in the mania around Peyton Manning and later a national championship. I realize this does not play well here in Georgia, but I am proud of my adopted city of Knoxville and I can heartily shout “Go Vols.” Through the years, I have accumulated clothes from each school that meant a great deal to me – in addition to places where my wife and children went. (Furman, Samford, Northwestern, and Wake Forest). I have quite a collection of shirts, caps, and sweatshirts in a variety of school colors. With connections to all of these different schools, I like to say that I always have a winner on Saturday! So, what colors will I wear this Sunday night at the Church Tailgate party? (Still working on that – come and see!) What colors will you wear? Pick your favorite school and wear the colors proudly. Bring a good tailgate dish of food and join us for fun and fellowship. In addition, I encourage you to bring a friend with you who is not in our church family. This is a great opportunity to reach out to our community to invite people to a fun event. We will have games for those who want to play. Others can just sit and visit. It should be a great night. Sunday night we will wear our school colors – but Sunday morning we will be talking about how we display our “Christian colors” by the witness we share. We are usually very proud of the schools we cheer – are we also proud of the Lord we serve? The colors we wear to games bear witness to our athletic allegiances. How do our lives and our words bear witness to Christ? The message on Sunday is “Gentle Witness” from 1 Peter 3:15. I hope to see you Sunday morning . . . and Sunday evening. David Hull

I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. During those days, I would attend University of Louisville Cardinals football and basketball games. I was a big fan. Now that the Cardinals are ranked #3 in the country in football this week, I am very proud of my hometown team.

I went to college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. While Vandy has never really been an athletic powerhouse, I learned to cheer heartily for the Commodores, and in recent years, my wife and I have been able to attend three different bowl games to watch Vandy play. I am always proud of my school.

I was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN from 1993 to 2002. Although it was quite a stretch for a Vandy Guy to pull for the Big Orange, I became caught up in the mania around Peyton Manning and later a national championship. I realize this does not play well here in Georgia, but I am proud of my adopted city of Knoxville and I can heartily shout “Go Vols.”

Through the years, I have accumulated clothes from each school that meant a great deal to me – in addition to places where my wife and children went.

The Church Nominating Committee is soliciting nominations from church members for a Trustee to serve a seven year term starting in 2017. If you have a nomination, please submit the person’s name with a brief resume of the individual’s qualifications to serve as a Trustee. Submit this information in writing to Lavinia Polatty at the Church Office or by email to Doug Clepper, Nomination Committee Chair, at [email protected]. The Nomination Committee will start the selection process for a Trustee in August to be presented to the Church in December.

Due to a change in the local FOX network and their contractual obligations to the NFL, our live television broadcast will be moved to a FOX54 Bounce channel. Dependent upon your home broadcast service, you may not be able to receive the Bounce channels listed below. But don’t worry! Our service will be available, also, through a live stream feed. We will provide that link through our church website. This is a great way to share our service with those outside of the Augusta area, as well. The following are broadcast providers and their Bounce channel that will carry our services:

Have you seen the green envelopes? When we donate money using them, that serves as one way we are able to support mission causes. Much of the money we collect through the green envelope stays right here in our community and is distributed to local organizations as well as to our own benevolence ministry. Our benevolence ministry helps meet needs for a number of families and individuals in Richmond and Columbia counties. Each week, we distribute groceries to 25-30 families, some of whom also receive assistance with rent or utilities. Each week it takes almost as many volunteers to help make this good work happen. Please consider putting an extra gift in the offering plate using a green envelope this Sunday. Yes, it is above your regular tithe or offering, but it is another way we reach out to and care for our community. Thank you.

Workbooks can be purchased on September 28, 9-11 a.m., 2nd floor of the Daniel Building. Contact Rebecca Elkin at [email protected] or call 706-840-3541 to register.
