The British Ambassador’s Residence Sultanate of Oman

The design is traditional in approach, combining elements of British architecture with a contemporary interpretation of traditional Arabic architectural detail to create interplay between the simple white masking of the exterior with the more intricate joinery work to the balconies and bay windows, and the deep shaded terracing on the seaward face. This uncomplicated and discrete solution avoids competition with the dramatic natural setting.

The private sitting out terraces, swimming pool and family garden are positioned to the rear with views all around.

The double height entrance hall echoes the detailing of the external joinery, with Oak in place of stained hardwood. Natural light sources at high level are diffused with mashrabiya screens.
