JUNE 2016 I am pleased to advise Brisbane City Council has finalised stage 1B detailed design and stage 2 concept design of the Telegraph Road & Lemke Road corridor upgrade project. The project is part of my investment in projects attacking congestion, which will see 90 road projects delivered across the city over the next four years. These upgrades will improve safety, travel times and flood immunity while catering for future traffic demands and reducing current congestion. Once complete, the corridor will improve access to major transport corridors to the north and south, including the M1 Motorway. They will also deliver active transport infrastructure including improved cyclist and pedestrian facilities along the length of Telegraph Road and a section of Lemke Road, making walking and cycling safer and easier for residents. Stage 1B construction, from Norris Road to Mustang Street, is scheduled to start by the end of this year and it is expected to be completed in late 2017, weather and construction conditions permitting. Stage 1B is jointly funded by the Federal Government and Council. Council is currently seeking feedback from the community on the stage 2 concept design, from Mustang Street to the Gateway Motorway ramps. Please view details of the project plan overleaf and use the details provided to contact the project team with your thoughts. JUNE 2016

I am pleased to advise Brisbane City Council has finalised stage 1B detailed design and stage 2 concept design of the Telegraph Road & Lemke Road corridor upgrade project.

Telegraph Road & Lemke Road corridor upgrade project – stage 1B

Council is pleased to announce detailed design of stage 1B of the Telegraph Road & Lemke Road corridor upgrade is now complete. Construction is scheduled to start in late 2016 and it is expected to be completed in late 2017, weather and construction conditions permitting. It will involve:

• widening T elegraph Road (to the southern side) from two lanes to four lanes with a centre median, from Norris Road to east of Mustang Street

• constructing a swale drain in the centre median

• r eforming the drainage channel on the southern side of Telegraph Road from the Bill Brown Sports Reserve to Mustang Street

• signalising the intersection of T elegraph Road and Mustang Street

• pr oviding a U-turn facility 400 metres from the Telegraph Road and Norris Road intersection

• pr oviding a U-turn facility at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Mustang Street, travelling eastbound

• pr oviding a shared pedestrian/cyclist footpath on the southern side of Telegraph Road

• pr oviding on-road cycle lanes on both sides of Telegraph Road

• impr oving drainage and flood immunity for Telegraph Road

• pr eserving the road corridor for future widening of Telegraph Road to six lanes

• driveway reinstatement works where required.

Telegraph Road & Lemke Road corridor upgrade project – stage 2

In December 2015, Council announced funding for design of the Telegraph Road & Lemke Road corridor upgrade project – stage 2 had been brought forward. The project will upgrade the Telegraph Road and the Depot Road corridors from Mustang Street to the Gateway Motorway on/off ramps in Deagon and Lemke Road south to the Sandgate Hawks AFL clubhouse. It will link with the Depot Road upgrade currently being planned as part of the Gateway Upgrade North project being completed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The project will involve:

• construction of a four-lane median-divided carriageway from Mustang Street to the Gateway Motorway on/off ramps

• installation of additional through lanes and turn lanes at the Denham Street and Telegraph Road intersection and at the Telegraph Road, Depot Road and Lemke Road intersection

• removal of the existing roundabout and installation of traffic signals at the Telegraph Road, Depot Road and Lemke Road intersection

• construction of a four-lane median-divided carriageway at Lemke Road from Telegraph Road to Tallowwood Place, with double right-turn lanes into Depot Road and a four-lane bridge at Cabbage Tree Creek

• provisions for an ultimate six-lane corridor along Telegraph Road

• a shared pathway on the southern side of Telegraph Road and Depot Road

• maintenance of the existing grade-separated cyclist/pedestrian crossing in Depot Road west of the Gateway Motorway on/off ramps

• shared path linkages on the northern side of Depot Road from the Gateway Motorway on/off ramps to Lemke Road

• on-road bike lanes in each direction

• a shared pathway on Lemke Road linking to the existing bike path on the southern side of Cabbage Tree Creek bridge

• new street lighting

• landscaping and revegetation works.

Council looks forward to hearing from the local community to receive feedback on the stage 2 concept design. Following evaluation of this feedback, Council will prepare a preliminary design document for public release in mid-2016.

Please note the Linkfield Road overpass in Bald Hills which connects with the Telegraph Road & Lemke Road corridor upgrade project is an asset of the Queensland Government and is outside of Council’s design scope.
