Built with the Power of Community

From the highest levels of the enterprise, to the vehicle dashboard, to the mobile phone in your pocket, digital maps grow more and more omnipresent every day. Increasingly device independent, digital maps are no longer just a tool to simply find people and places. They are relied upon to uncover new opportunities and new possibilities. From helping the enterprise identify new markets and reduce risk, to the driver seeking to avoid traffic, enhance safety, and minimize fuel consumption, to the mobile user keeping track of the whereabouts of friends, digital maps are essential to navigating an increasingly complex world.

For more than 20 years, Tele Atlas, the world’s most trusted source of fresh, rich, and accurate digital maps and dynamic content, has helped its customers successfully respond to changing market demands. Leaders in innovation, we developed the first in-vehicle navigation system, delivered the first navigable digital roadmap of Europe, and were the first to deliver 3D city maps and landmarks.

Today Tele Atlas is poised to further revolutionize digital mapping with input from millions of map users around the world. Their input, combined with our technology to constantly validate and process their changes and updates, will enable us to continuously refresh our database with up-to-the-minute content, and create the reference for real-time, accurate maps and routing intelligence. The result: superior maps that our customers can use to create the world’s most useful and innovative solutions.

** Tele Atlas Connect™ provides global coverage in Tele Atlas formats and supports basic display and routing functionalities for geographies where MultiNet® is not available.

About Tele Atlas®

A comprehensivedigitized map database

The MultiNet street network vector database is a highly accurate digitized

reproduction of today’s road, street and transportation network that also includes land

cover features. Built to rigorous standards by the experts at Tele Atlas, this premier global map database offers end users of navigation and location-based solutions the freshest and most accurate map content thanks to the contribution of the

world’s largest community of map users.

MultiNet contains more than 240 features and 230 attributes and covers more than

70 countries in Europe, North America, and a rapidly growing portion of South

America, Africa, Asia and Australia. MultiNet incorporates innovations and

improvements to suit the needs of a fast-paced industry. Database updates are

released four times a year.

Tele Atlas data is consistently formatted with global specifications, enabling

application developers to combine and expand their geographical coverage

seamlessly.

The MultiNet difference:fresh and accurate data

More than 50,000 global sources provide the MultiNet database with a constant

stream of updates.

Today we are taking a quantum leap toward the promise of real-time digital maps —

maps that reflect current road attributes, speed restrictions, and traffic conditions

— that guide with efficiency, safety, and accuracy. Real-time maps that reflect the

reality of the moment and the surrounding environment, providing the best

possibilities for parking, fuel prices, restaurants, and more.

We’re accomplishing that goal by leveraging the power of the end-user community — the millions who drive, observe, and report on the roadways.

It’s their constant input and feedback on billions of kilometers of traffic

conditions, speed profiles, and other attributes which will help us deliver maps

with up-to-the-minute information on the best routes, points of interest, traffic

patterns, and more.

Advances in technology coupled with the growth of the digital map community

are enabling Tele Atlas to more quickly process and verify fresh map data and

update underlying databases while creating more accurate and richer maps that

feature new functionality. The community of map users can enrich our maps in

one of two ways. The first is by actively reporting a change via partner communities or the Tele Atlas® Map Insight® online reporting tool. These

reports go through a rigorous validation process thereby assuring the highest

level of accuracy. The second way is through the passive process of tracking

anonymous GPS measurements of millions of navigation devices around the

globe. As a result of this community input, new geometry is added and

existing attributes, such as direction of traffic flow, are updated. This level of

community involvement, or “mass collaboration,” allows each member of the

community to contribute to the creation of richer digital maps and more intelligent routing in a way that benefits the entire group and each individual.

Page 6: Tele Atlas MultiNet

A fleet of mobile mapping vehicles drive the road network, capturing real-life

information. Integrating a full multi-dimensional view of a roadway, details are

captured, verified and processed quickly. This results in superior map accuracy

of 1-12 meters and even ADAS-compliant accuracy of 1-5 meters on the

highest road classes. New information is gathered and validated every day.

Field surveyors continually check, validate and refine all road information.

Teams in every country covered by Tele Atlas drive the roads to match the

MultiNet data to reality.

Aerial photography and satellite images provide unrivalled overviews of

road networks, land use, waterways and railways, urban areas and isolated

villages. The latest aerial photographs and satellite images are scrutinized for

changes.

Paper maps from national mapping organizations and respected map makers

are used to cross-check road classification data and topographical information.

Each new edition of the abundant paper maps is checked as soon as the

supplier makes it available to Tele Atlas.

The combined result of these processes is a MultiNet database containing accurate

geometry, positioning centrelines for all drivable roads and streets, boundary lines

for municipalities, administrative regions, postal code areas and country borders,

polygons for lakes and land cover, railway lines and ferry routes, and point features

for city centres, road junctions and the standard POIs included in the database.

All these features are geo-coded to correctly identify the components of

administrative structures, such as area names, street names with alternatives, house

number ranges and postal codes.

To ensure MultiNet is always up to date in practice, fresh versions are published for Tele Atlas partners every three months.

RICH CONTENT

The richer the experience our maps deliver, the better. MultiNet’s richness is

expressed in its features and attributes.

The extensive list of features represents real-world objects related to the

road environment. The properties of these features are represented by 3

types of attributes:

Guide attributes, enabling applications to generate accurate and safe routes in

real time with clear audible and/or visual instructions.

Find attributes, helping users locate places, people and products.

Display attributes, visualizing reality to enhance the end-user experience.

For example, the ‘road element’ feature is characterized by:

Guide attributes such as direction of traffic flow (e.g. one-way streets),

signpost information, lane information, etc.

Find attributes such as street names, house numbers, postal codes, etc.

Display attributes such as functional road class, route shield info, etc.

GLOBAL COVERAGE

MultiNet covers more than 70 countries and is constantly being

expanded to help Tele Atlas partners reach more markets and more

users. Coverage includes a high percentage of Europe, North America,

and a rapidly growing portion of South America, Africa, Asia and Australia.

UNIFORM SPECIFICATION

The MultiNet product is a truly global offering. It is designed to effectively

scale for developers across many countries, enabling quick product

launches. MultiNet makes global expansion smooth and seamless.

Developers no longer need to spend countless hours discerning the peculiarities of

each individual country − now they are free to develop applications for every corner

of the world as easily as if it were right next door.

The Locality Index feature makes looking for a specific address much more

successful. Instead of returning the first location that partially matches a user’s search,

Locality Index differentiates between locations with similar or identical names like

nothing else available on the market. Locality Index is particularly useful when users

are on the go or have incomplete information.
