THE TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

6 October 2019

God Alone! Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I want to echo again my deep gratitude for all those who were present for the Mass of Installation on Sep-tember 26th. It was good to be able to celebrate this prayerful moment with all of you in the context of the holy Mass; there was such a great outpouring of support from everyone, and that truly meant a lot to me! May God bless all of you abundantly for all your kindnesses and warm-hearted support. As we continue to reflect on the meaning and renewal of Eucharistic Adoration in our life as a parish, I want to return to the four ends of the Mass, which I mentioned briefly last week, and which are also the four ends of spending time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament: adoration, thanksgiving, atonement, and petition. This week let us look deeper at the act of adoration. When Jesus offered his life on the cross for us, His sacrifice was an act of adoration, meaning a per-fect fulfillment of the greatest commandment: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The cross restored the adoration due to the Father, which was reject-ed by the disobedience of man. Further, Jesus’ act of adoration on the cross was not simply an action, but rather was a perpetual state of soul before His Father. The cross was the culmination of Jesus’ continual adoration of the Father. Thus, when we participate and worship at Mass, we are joining in Jesus’ adoration of our eternal Father, which is His due as our creator and our Lord. It is a renewing of our love for Him, which is His by right, and in the renewing of His sacrifice, Jesus takes up our act of adoring and unites it to His at every Mass. In some way, this makes us ponder why we go to Mass, not just to fulfill an obliga-tion, not because we get something out of it, not because we want to be a part of a community; these are all sec-ondary reasons which flow from the first purpose of Mass, which is to adore God, in other words to renew our love for Him. This love for Him is given expression in the very effort we make to go to Mass on Sunday and to offer Him the perfect praise He calls us to offer: the sacrifice of his beloved Son. Spending time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament then flows naturally from this as an act of adoration, of expressing our love for Jesus truly present on our altar, and for His heavenly Father. Jesus continues to remain hid-den in the Blessed Sacrament as an act of adoring, of loving the eternal Father. Whenever we sit before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, we are not only loving Jesus, but joining our love to His love in adoring the Eternal Father. Wherever Jesus is present, so too is His Father, and their Holy Spirit. When we adore Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, we are also profoundly present to the Father and the Holy Spirit. Thus, adoration is nothing other than loving. As human beings, we have a longing to spend time in the presence of those who are dear to us: our husband, our wife, our children, our parents and family. The same is true for God, He has created us with a longing for His presence, and even though the world tries to replace this with other things, it can only be fulfilled by spending time with Him. Eucharistic Adoration is simply adoring, loving Jesus, and united to Jesus’ perfect love of His Father, adoring and loving the Father and the Holy Spirit with Him. As with the Mass, the effort we make to spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is an act of adoration, which Jesus blesses abundantly with the sweetness and peace of His holy presence. In a very real way, if we want to see a transformation of our world, we need to rediscover that interior atti-tude of adoration of God, and there is no greater way to cultivate adoration of God than to spend time with Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. It is no coincidence that before our Lady appeared at Fatima, the children were taught a simple and beautiful prayer, “My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love you! I ask pardon of you for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love you!” As we begin a more intense program of Eucharistic adoration as a parish family, let us seek to more con-sciously love and adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and thereby grow in our love for God! In Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Michael

ATTENTION EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS

OF THE EUCHARIST FOR THE HOMEBOUND

There is a slight change in procedure for returning the pyx you use for bringing our Eucharistic Lord to the homebound or hospitalized. The Rite of Holy Communion specifies that the sacred vessel in which the Eucharist has been carried must be purified as with other Sacred Vessels. The sacristans of our par-ish have been recently trained to be able to purify the pyx after it has been used to bring Holy Communion to the homebound. When returning the pyx to the sacristy, please place the pyx in the basket near the statue of the Blessed Mother in the sacristy and the sacristans will purify them and return them to the drawer in order to be used again on another visit to the homebound. Thank you for your assistance in this matter and for your continued ministry to those who are not able to be present with us at Mass.

COMING HOME TO CATHOLICISM

Is there a family member or friend who has fallen away from the Catholic faith whom you have always wanted to invite back? Or, are you yourself a Catholic who has been away from the active practice of the faith and are now feeling called to a deeper relationship with the Lord? Jesus Himself waits for each one of us here in the Eucharist every day, offering us the peace the world cannot give! This October, please invite a friend and/or join us at our Coming Home program. Meet others who are on the same journey back to the Catholic Church. All of our team members had left the Church for years—because of pain, misunderstandings, Church laws, apathy, and many other reasons—but they have now found their home in the Catholic Church and would love to share their stories and listen to yours. This is a judgment-free zone and there is no commitment! To register for the Coming Home sessions on October 19th and 26th from 10:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m., please visit www.stkathryns.org/chc or call the parish office at 603.882.7793. Welcome home! You have been missed!

MODEL TRAIN SHOW

Cub Pack #252 is sponsoring a gigantic model train show by the Garden Railway Society here in the Parish Hall on Saturday, October 12th from 10:00 a.m.—3:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 13th from 10:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. Participate in raffles, buy some concessions, and see G-scale trains in action! ADORATION SIGNUPS

Signups for weekly Wednesday adoration and/or monthly First Friday adoration are taking place once again in the vestry after Masses this weekend. As always, parishioners are invited and encouraged to stop in for adoration any time, no signups required! However, the Lord must have at least two attendants at all times, so the more people we have on a consistent schedule (with contact information if a substitute is needed) the better. Please sign up after Mass, online at stkathryns.org/adoration-and-benediction, or by calling the parish office at 603.882.7793.
